If you're a fan of comedy, doesn't have to be black comedy specifically, but if you are a fan of stand up comedy you will have seen everything that Tyler Perry does has been done before and done far better. Look to Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Dave Chappelle. Richard Pryor's character Mudbone is the genesis of Tyler Perry's entire routine it would seem.
Whether we like it or not, Madea represents a portion of the black race. Yes, there are people like her who actually act like that. yes i'm african american and i was one of those people who dismissed his work.! but if you WATCH his movies you will see that it's beyond that. he delivers messages within his films and it's not just about degrading us blacks. give it try! :)

If you're a fan of comedy, doesn't have to be black comedy specifically, but if you are a fan of stand up comedy you will have seen everything that Tyler Perry does has been done before and done far better. Look to Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, Dave Chappelle. Richard Pryor's character Mudbone is the genesis of Tyler Perry's entire routine it would seem.

Whether we like it or not, Madea represents a portion of the black race. Yes, there are people like her who actually act like that. Surely not all, but some who do love to see a caricature of themselves onstage and on-screen. I liked his first 2 madea films, mainly because of the dramatic story-line not including madea (who is, let's admit it...comic relief). But some of his films with Janet actually show that a good dramedy can be told without Madea! I'm getting sick of her.
