OMG can someone please help me... at 4:04, what is that movie called. i really need to know so i can watch it, i have seen i before but i cant remember, so can someone please tell me?
The first ever one i saw was howls moving castle in the cinemas and ever since then i was hooked to the films they are the best films ever. they changed my life. My fave is spirited away and in second is either Kiki or Howl :D
@platepluscup123 Noooo dude the deal it's with the history, the charachters not just about 3d effects and all that high tech stuff, Disney will never be this awesome.
Howl's Moving Castle was my hands down favorite!!
Did you hear Miyazaki's making a sequel to Porco Rosso coming in 2012!?!? That was also one of my absolute favorites of his!! Please continue with your genius Miyazaki!!!
This is one of the rare videos in which I think the visuals deserve such dramatic music. These clips are truly thrilling and sublime. So often movie trailers and movies use Carmina Burana-esque music to promote some false sense of drama when nothing really that interesting is happening, while ghibli movies already have that excitement, and go with music like this perfectly.
I loved his older works, I wish Disney wouldn't be such a conservative wadd, I'd like to see some more Princess Mononoke's, after Spirited Away, their movies have been too childish or cliched.
Fun, love, friendship, everyday's life, dreams, fantasy, loneliness... seriously, do you want something more? Who says anime are not cinema?! everyone of these movies is a piece of art.
I've only seen Howl's Moving Castle,Spirited Away,Ponyo,Castle In the Sky,Kiki's Delivery Service,My Neighbor Totoro, and The Cat Returns. I plan on watching all of them :)
lol i played katy perry's firework to this video and it worked great with it xD but i started the video at the part where it was clouds before it showed Kiki laying on the hill...^^
I remember my first Studio Ghibli film was Kiki's delivery service. After my mom and I watched it, she started calling me Kiki. So Kiki has been my nickname ever since. X3
Love this. Awayonsoapywheels, regarding your comment, the girl on the train is from a very short Ghibli film about some office workers who go to the curry house. We have it on the excellent boxed set available from Anime United which here in UK costs 35 pounds for all 18 Ghibli films right up to Ponyo - a real bargain.

If you want to know the soundtrack that plays from 0:08-2:00, type "Great Expectations Score - Estella's Theme" into YouTube search.
This soundtrack is so great that you can just listen to it by itself. You could also play it on another tab, while putting this clip on mute (which I just did:p). Unfortunately, the second part of this clip doesn't really sync well with the Great Expectations Score, since it's for the Hans Zimmer score. ...Still good, though.
@costyron I think it's a sequence from the Yamada's, at the wedding when the grandma explains the couple will have to sail the sea's and sometimes face storms. Something along those lines, but I'm not 100 percent sure.
What is the beautiful music that goes with this trailer? Is it Ghilbi music from one of the films, or something specially written for the trailer, or is it something publicly available?
phenomenal piece of work. It would introduce happiness to those who have yet to discouver. Thanks for this post milkmelon, and i hope anyone who watches this enjoyed it as much as i did.
@Elindigoful if ur talking about the one at 4:34, its not a movie. its a short clip made for a music video for chage & aska (the song is "on your mark"), a music group that consists of 2 men in japan. i personally love it! the good looking guy resembles aska, and the guy wearing shades is chage
Jeez... I've seen all these except for Ocean Waves. I wonder how to find it, and with english subtitles. Or is that not possible? Any way, really nice video :)

Amazing what can be accomplished with cost conscious budget driven computer anime! Ah, limited animation, fooling the human eye into believing more is happening than really is! Impressive. Of course for genuine human animated artistic achievement, nothing beats Disney's Fantasia (1940) produced at a cost of 83 times the contemporary average cartoon of the day. It took Disney 30 years to recoup its expenses. Ghibli is good, for computer generated animation. Fantasia is best for animation. Period.
Actually, Studio Ghibli is almost strictly hand-drawn animation. Miyazaki allows only 10% of his films to be computer animated. He is quoted as saying, "Do everything by hand, even when you're doing it on a computer." I don't know about the rest of the films from the company, but as I said, Miyazaki's films are almost completely done by hand.
fantasia was boring, ive hated it since i was a kid. ghibli has no rivals because of their classic storytellers. their only rival could be final fantasy writers.
Ghibli don't make pictures, make masterpieces.

Comparing limited animation with Fantasia is like comparing pop art with the Mona Lisa
