Rick is my cousin. I'm from Ohio and my Aunt Joy (years ago) got to meet Ricky backstage in Dayton.
She said he was so nice and that he knew he had family here. My grandmothers maiden name is Hillard. She was Rickys 1st cousin. Guess I'll never meet him now. Love Ricky and his music!!!!!!
Saw him at the Tulsa Fair 1985, in Oct before he was killed. I threw a rose up on the stage & it landed just perfectly on his guitar & stayed there for the remainder of his song. Such beautiful music from a beautiful man.
This was the band that died with him on that DC-3 up in Avery, Texas area. I have been to the sight......that was a fateful New Years Eve. I will never forget it....part of my youth died when he did......Miss you EHN....rip. RR
I totally agree. Rick might have had cocaine issues, but a faulty heater caused his plane to catch fire. What a loss. Rick Nelson was one of the greats. Only second to Elvis in rockabilly. And Rick was more of an all American kid born in Tee Neck, New Jersey, and raised in California.
I have this Video GREAT GREAT GREAT, Rick done em ALL MAry Lou, I got cold chills He died less than a year later. The Plane had a FURNACE blow up!.'ALAWAYS some Idiot wanting to run down a dead man . Rick had Millions of fans if you don't like him. Get the F--- off of here!.

@cbarrett34 He always had a great head of hair and yeah it looks kinda like a rug so since you're the one that's run your fingers through it....I'll believe you ;-)

Gee I'm a dickhead, a jerk, pissy. You guys are so rich in expletives. I guess it's easier when there isn't someone around to punch your face in. @ezekialwheel : No, life killed him. I looked it up. Overwhelms me really. To see his early songs, popularity in his 20's..
..only to be taken by a heartless woman who wanted nothing but to spend his wealth and taek him for all that he had becasue she did not do ANYTHING with her life.

It overwhelms me how a life can take such a direction.

i remember as a young kid i used to watch ''the adventures of ozzie and harriet'' and each week they would feature a new song done by rick ''live'' on the show. this was later on in the series because in the earliest ones in the fifties he was too young to be a lead vocalist.
his parents were good musicians too. anyone know what happened to his older brother david.
Dear Dale, David Nelson is the only surviving member of the original TV family. He was born in October, 1936 and is now 73. He was never really into show business as much as his parents and younger brother. After the series ended, he quietly worked "behind the scenes".
Being 66, I grew up with Rick & his music. Truly one of the greats in Rock & Roll. He stayed true to himself and his music. British invasion, disco, punk, heavy metal... you still could depend on Rick for his outstanding music: classic Rock!
I'm not sure if its on you tube, but Ozzie (his dad) produced the very first music video: Rick doing Traveling Man, years before videos became common place!
Nothing brings a smile to my face like a Rick Nelson song - love ya Rick, always will!
Rick Nelson, actor and musician, for a lifetime an honest unaffected style, consumate good taste, and musical artistic integrity untill his dying day. A man as strong as his work.
Dec. 31, 1985, Nelson and his band boarded a plane after a show at a small club in Guntersville, Alabama headed to the KLUV-FM New Year's Eve Sock-Hop concert in Dallas, Texas. The plane crashed northeast of Dallas in De Kalb, Texas killing Nelson; his fiancée, Helen Blair; bassist Patrick Woodward, drummer Rick Intveld and three others. Nelson was buried in the Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills Cemetery in Los Angeles, California.
Yes that was the place and he put on a Great Show. I later met Pat Upton from Spiral Staircase at a friends party. He sang with Ricky Nelson after Staircase, and said the illfated plane stopped at his little club before it's final leg of the voyage.
Another great Performer that left us way too soon...Wonderful vid rz...many stars*********************** And thank you knowingE for this share my friend..
oh my my. he was wonderful. I love him... his picture hangs on my wall in bedroom. I miss him and his lovely voice and his great songs. rip... thanks for sharing this great video.
What is it with plane crashes, and musicians? It just sucks! Rickey, the "1959 crast when the music died", Lynard Skynard, Stevie Ray Vaughan (yeah, I know, it was a helicopter, but you get my point). Man, how sad. I just enjoy the music, and try not to think about it. I hope I get to visit "Rock and Roll Heaven" when I die, if it does exist. Thanks for this post.
God bless you Ricky! You left us all quite a legacy, to enjoy your beautiful music. It is hard to watch these great videos and know that his band lost their lives too. RIP Ricky and the Stone Canyon Band.
I was walking around an Auto show in the Oakland Coliseum in the late 70's and in the back of the arena a small band was playing as the people were looking at the cars. Hardly anyone stopped to watch Rickey Nelson and his band; I was amazed to see who was playing, stopped for a few minutes and went back to looking at cars.
To me, he was like a neighborhood kid next door. RIP Rick, you are missed.
I ran up on stage and Rick Nelson kissed me, at the San Diego animal park!:-)

Great song but I'm curious, did Rick fake playing guitar like a lot of singers from that era? You can really see it from about 39 seconds to 45 seconds in. He keeps changing chords where there are no chord changes. I suspect that he really did know the tunes overall as he IS playing the correct chords at the end (D major to Bminor) so he must've played a little but I'm curious if anyone knows the story there. Elvis admitted to faking it during his '68 Comeback. I wonder about Ricky. Hmm...

Great Song! A Ricky Nelson classic! Bobby Neal from Cooter Mo. on lead guitar. RIP

@dennisjamesstudio And what a guitarist. Bobby was as good as Rick's earlier player James Burton if that's possible.

@73849309378 The tone that guy gets is awesome. Sounds very much like the legendary James Burton. Agreed.
