whats amazing is the windsurfer is downwind of the cat.

Isnt that wind shadow area? Checkitout yer self. he is dead down wind and still planing.

if you look at the film carefully, at least for me the windsurfer is slightly ahead of the cat at all times. from the sail position in the cat we can assume the wind is coming from anywhere 9-12 points, and I think the wind is coming dead from 11 o'clock position. In that case, the wind will always be slightly ahead of the cat's bow, thus permitting the windsurfer guy or gal to ride it. Regardless, the clip is very impressive.

I's difficult to tell - from the sheeting angles they could be either broad or close to the wind, but at 30seconds in, I'd say they are broad. However, once you are going at these speeds it's worth remembering that the lee no-longer is directly down wind of you, but roughly follows your wake, so wind could in fact still be clean even if they are broad. Agreed - two of the most elegant things afloat - I love windsurfing and anything else that sails :-)) Good work!

actually, they would ahve the sails set so tight because the apparant wind would be that far forward, but hte true wind would be from behind hte cat imo
