this was sweet!!! i also like the nod to Erroll Garner and Lennon/McCartney that he slips in during his improvised solo in the second half of the performance. just beautiful!
I'll answer my own question. The video is called "Coolin' 'n Groovin'", and is available from the Japanese Amazon web site as a region-free DVD. I got my copy a few days ago, and it hasn't left my player. Fantastic show.
There is no video for the studio version I mentioned. I was just asking people to check it out since people like this version. I've searched youtube and got 0 results.
Great vid. He did a medley of this song and Ain't No Sunshine on Soul Is. A Song For Aretha gives me chills every time I play it. Highly recommended if you don't have a copy already.
hah, great rendition of a classic from Mr. David T. Walker, easily the most soulful guitar player I ever heard. What a groove, and what a tone! Subtle and powerful, crystal-clear and warm at the same time. With a little help from his friend "Pretty" Purdie, I see... Thanks a lot for posting it!
if all those f..n' screamers was band members you should see the london symphony on stage my friend ... maybe your ears are stuffed by a couple of very big juicysteaks.
Come to think of it, David T. is also the lead guitarist on the 1974 MARVIN GAYE LIVE ALBUM! He does some great playing on the show opening tune, and does some great playing on THIS song which closed that album. In fact, that trill that he hits at 3:58? He does it at the very end of "What's Going On?" on that live album.
this is real smooth. i was a very small child when David T. Walker did his thing on wax, but i still have the chance to hear much of his works. he can also be found on much of Barry White's 70's albums. my dad also played a funky bluesy guitar as well, and i excitingly learn to express my soul from them all. i'm thankful that i came across this video here. thanks for the sharing. this is entertainment to the best. and i did not forget to mention Bernard pretty Purdie in the midst. best drummer.
always has been a mystery to me as to why the best music can often be the hardest to find, sad state our music industry is in when most people will never get to experience real music
Best and most accurate comment in utube about state of music today.Wow,that was some good stuff bro.
Its a sad fact that most people wont ever experience music, they just have it in the background and they miss out the substance. All they hear and see is the production :(
One of my favorite guitarists and biggest influences...DAVID T!!! You know the sound; you know the songs: "If You Think You're Lonely Now"; Anita Baker's "Angel"; Gerald Levert's "Pop Goes My Mind"...and a whole slew of Barry White, Marvin Gaye, and Crusaders songs.
