Hi Jason, thanks for the videos, really instructive.
Didn't you have another bulerias lesson on here before, which started with some muted strumming? I think I saved it as a favourite on my old computer, but now I can't find it on here.
Hey jason, Killer groove you've got going there, I love the way you chop up the compass. I've been playing for about 6 years now and i regularly go to jerez for lessons. Who taught you to play compas like that? No one i've had lessons with there has you're take on it and as you're thousands of miles away i dont think i can have lessons with you which is a drag. My question is, did you learn your compas in spain and if so who was it? Nice one jason, you're an inspiration to me!
My main teacher was Pedro Cortes. I studied with him in New York and Miami. Compas was difficult for me to learn and I even gave up on flamenco completely at one point. Hang in there. Listen to as much flamenco as possible. Studying is important but it is also VERY important to simply listen. Approach the guitar as a percussion instrument and rhythm becomes much more a fundamental aspect of the process.
I have tabs for everything and then I count each lesson out so you can hear where things fall. The tabs are a split staff with standard notation on the top and tablature at the bottom. Look up top here in the "more info" section. There is a link to the tab. This one is written in 12/8 because it was the first lesson I did. I changed to 12/4 so it would read easier. The tab also plays a rhythmically accurate midi file that is tempo adjustable. You can transpose the key as well. Check it out......
i also dare ask..well..i've been playing flmenco for about two and a half years...maybe three and i study pretty hard daily, i am 22 years old now....do you think it's kind of late for me to get good enough to perform..like in fornt of an audience?
Hello...i've been practicing the tango, fandagos and bulerias samples from your site...really fun and rewarding....fresh ghange from my Dennis Koster workbooks
You got it! You can accent in "sixes" on 12 and 6, in "twos"...2,4,6,8,10,12 etc. and many more of course. There is a lot of freedom in bulerias, but you will need to come back to the "starting point" to reestablish the groove. The music will develop within a section and things will get more and more complex and then resolve back to the starting point again.
wow thank you very much..i thought of it but i really wasn't sure.I've been practicing"p a i"
triplet rasgueado fingering so,i'm sorry for bothering you by asking, but could you tell me if these fingerings are better in certain situations or is it just a matter of personal prefference in general
OMG!!! I Dont even know where to begin your good man!! i've been playing for a little bit now but found a new love for Flamenco, and I want to learn but it seems so hard.. :( but ill get it eventually! :) <33 keep rockin!

Hi Jason, love your style and the way you explain compas. Just had a quick question, what's the bpm on this one? About 200?
If we take your online course do you provide tabs showing where the accents fall. Thanks
bkkcedric 3 years ago
I think its 220bpm maybe a hair slower.

No... work hard the next few years. Its never too late. Learn to play for singers and dancers and you will be able to perform a lot.

hello again..i think i'm gonna take the lessons on your site because i found out that paypal is in my country too...i live in Romaia by the way...
sebilica87 3 years ago
Great!!! thank you...again
sebilica87 3 years ago
hello
i have now the palmas that you use in this compas...this palmas sequence...can i use it to practice the [6]7[8]... compas too?
sebilica87 3 years ago
Yes. They are interchangeable.
JasonMcGuireFlamenco 3 years ago
damn...watching the vid over and over i could have sworn it's a m i ...and because m(down),i(down),i(up) is harder to do as fast as a m i
thank you very much...again
sebilica87 3 years ago
...sorry to bother you, but at the end of each 12 beat cicle in this compas you use "a m i" triple rasgueado?
sebilica87 3 years ago
m(down),i(down),i(up) FAST(16th notes in 12/4 time) usually I follow it with the same thing in 8th notes..... m(down),i(down),i(up)

Well, i am used to playing bulerias with accents on 6 and 8, never played 7 and 8. But to be honest i don't see the big difference in the end...???
sebilica87 3 years ago
no big difference. I accent a lot of different ways as most players do. 3,6(or7),8,10,12 is just a starting point.
JasonMcGuireFlamenco 3 years ago
aha...so...one can play a bulerias with both type of accents, in the same song i mean?
sebilica87 3 years ago

JasonMcGuireFlamenco 3 years ago
wow...i didn't realize that...i thought that the guitarist kept the same accents, otherwise the singer or dancer would get disoriented...
sebilica87 3 years ago
oh, so if i use "pai" in this compas sequence that you played it wouldn't be wrong or it wouldn't sound worse?
sebilica87 3 years ago
not wrong, just different

triplet rasgueado fingering so,i'm sorry for bothering you by asking, but could you tell me if these fingerings are better in certain situations or is it just a matter of personal prefference in general
thank you again
sebilica87 3 years ago
it's not a question of better, it's just what I used here. I use "p a i" too and many other combinations as well.
JasonMcGuireFlamenco 3 years ago
really good stuff...can anyone tell me what fingering does he use for the rasgueado at the end...i cannot tell for sure
thank you

Do you know where I can find the percussion track you have in the background?
I wanted to practice your lesson, but I thought it would easier to follow the track as well.
Thanks!
