Elvis at one time was madly in love with Wanda Jackson. Marty Robbins, whom I interviewed in the 1960s for WINA Radio at University Hall in Charlottesville, told me: "Elvis told me the only girl that intimidated him because of her beauty, talent and class was Wanda Jackson. He said the only two records he wore out from repeated use were her versions of "Right or Wrong" and "Making Believe." I never fogot that interview with Marty, especially his surprisng comment regarding Wanda Jackson.
wow I was just thrown back into my childhood listening to the music my mother loved to play & dance to, funny I did the dance "the stroll" with my mom when I was like 7 yrs old!!! I'm 40 now!
@mjhowers1 OMG ...Your so right this is such a wonderful song most people dont feel what this is about ,Honesty 100% and all the way I will die feeling this way Im 48 my twin girls that ive raised from age 3 till now they are 26 im old they tell me im from the old school and people that feel like this song is singing about. Very few people believe all the way or not at all looked all my. Ive looked all my life and never fond her yet,Love what you wrote it was beautiful have a blessed day Ray
I remember this song when I was a little boy in Tucson, Arizona around 1961 or so, loved it then, and love it now, the singers today couldn't begin to make music like this.
" Saw Wanda last night at Third Man Records. She can still rock it man. She's still a great lady. Jack White was on guitar and has produced her latest album. Go Get a copy now. Cowboy-
Wanda actually wrote this song for Brenda Lee, but decided that Brenda already had enough hits and kept it for herself. lol...There is something about this album cover that is amazing...Wanda Rocks
My ex's name was Wanda and she bet me one nite I had never heard of Wanda Jackson cause im only 30 she was older I said wanna bet and pulled up about 40 mp3 files of Wanda Jackson on my laptop hard drive. and she sat there on the bed and sang this song to me. It was funny cause no one at the time thought her and I should be together we had so many strikes against us our ages, the fact we are both women, and the fact she was my ex's ex. But I will always love her.
@littlewitch1979 Please do not post controversial junk like this. Kids are on here and read these things. The fact is the media and sodomites hide the truth about the major problems with this sin.
@lbrewer42 You know I said nothing sexual or anything so what are you so offended by are you offfend by LOVE because thats all I was talking about was being in love with someone you dont know me or her for that matter so who are you to judge. As far as children there are far worse things to worry about then some child reading a comment on a song that was recording in 1961 for crying out loud
@littlewitch1979 : For all it's worth I'm in your corner on this issue. I read your initial comment and I find nothing wrong with it and I'm a 61 year old grandpa with a 15 year old grand daughter.
@jarhead4God Good comment Jarhead... I am a 65 year old grandpa.. probably Vietnam like you, and have no problem with your posting . It certainly had more love in it than anything!! We seem to be losing that, dont we?
Wanda wrote this song for Brenda Lee and as Wanda says...she thought Brenda had enough hits so she kept it for herself, LOL....Love this song..and there's something about the record cover that I am just in love with..she looks amazing
I saw Wanda in Nashville, TN about 10 years ago at the "Exit Inn" , and she still rocks. Most of her record sales are now in Europe. They dig her over there. I told her that "Shania Twain" (who was big at the time) "couldn't wipe her boots". She is still one of my favorite entertainers.
This remains as ravishing and touching as when it was first heard. What she does in phrase after phrase still leaves me shattered. Surely one of the most memorable of all country or pop recordings of any decade.
One of the last songs I ever got to hear my Mama sing before she had her stroke, and later died. She so lovingly exposed me to so much great music and a great diversity of music....Miss you soooo much Mama.
I feel ya, I remember my grandfather liking her music and listening to his and my grandmother's old albums. They knew every word of the songs and would sing along, delighting me as a child.
@alarkajulia I Do sing. We were a singing family! We used to have family get togethers we called "clang clangs" up to 30 people or so just singing, laughing and enjoying being a family. Music was a major tie in our immediate family. Just being the 3 kids and Mama. Our main source of entertainment. Practically our Only source. Sure miss those days!
@dlsw23 that sounds so much like when I was growing up, my uncles all sang and one almost made it but his ex-wife kept sabotaging him. I've been singing since I was a tiny girl, I was so bashful I would get underneath my grandmother's table so noone would look at me and sing for my uncles and grandparents. I just know its got to be hard having a mother that was famous and not having her anymore, but I'm sure she left you lots of examples to follow. God Bless You and Yours.
@dlsw23 - Are we talking about the same person. Wanda Jackson, I thought she was still living? She has a website that shows here tour dates and she was on the news the other evening, I'm confused.
Wanda was the first woman country artist to bring a sexy image to the genre. I saw a cable special on her a couple of years ago and some of her album covers were very alluring.
When I was a kid in high school, I totally loved this song, much to the chagrin of my classmates. It was country-western so that was considered "square" . Patsy Cline was grudgingly accepted by teenagers in my home town (1960-62).
To this day, I still love to swing and sway with this little gem. Thank you!
Hey, AlanPaladin, I like this one but was wondering if you could get hold of "If I Cried Every Time You Hurt Me". I had it from someone else, but that idiot evidently took his version off of You Tube...Ron
For many years, she refused to sing this song in concert, because when Ronnie Dove's version became a huge pop hit, the songwriters for Wake The Town And Tell The People noticed the melody was identical to theirs, sued her, and gained 1/3 of the songwriter royalties. She does sing the song in concert again these days, however.
For a brief moment I thought it was a picture of my mother as a young woman..she looked exactly like Wanda Jackson..truly a beauty..as is this song..thank you for posting!
well i was wandas termite tech for a year for arway and she had not changed a bit she is still as sweet and kind as ever she remembers where she came from and that says a lot her and her husband both are the nicest people you could ever meet and i miss them a lot i only got to meet them a couple of times but you could fill the love and welcome in them both god bless the both of them dale r
You all have the story about her and The Grand Ol' Opry. I wish Wanda would tell it, but I heard her dress was too bare, and either Ernest Tubb, or someone else made her cover herself before she went onstage, Yes, you Wanda was the one First out front and center ready to take on the world.
first heard her singing silver threads and golden needles in 61, followed her and finally saw her in southport england with vernon oxford, the theatre wasnt full but wanda called all the audience to the front and put on a great show.
I grew up with this song. My mom had this LP from the early 60s titled First of the Famous which had hits by country artists like Tex Williams and Merle Travis. I love it!! Thanks for posting this!
My Mother had this album, and as a kid my sister and I would play it till we wore it out..Thanks for posting this beautiful song brings back wonderful memories!
Man this women was the penultimate female singer. She broke all the moulds. She was Rock ' Roll and Country. She lived and expressed both worlds at the same time and she did it her way. From ballads to Rockabilly classics, Wanda is a wonder to behold. She goes on somewhat ignored by the mass media but she is the birth of Dolly, Tammy and Loretta all rolled into one. Love this song and I love Wanda.
LOL...I was in diapers in'63. I have yet to see her in concert. However, the energy in her early videotaped appearances shows her energy. The sincerity in her voice speaks through the generations. I have marveled at her style, sound, and attitude for about 15 years.
@retro597 You are so right on about your comment! I was born in 1950 and know for a fact that her contribution is not recognized! That she did, what she did in that repressive time is a "wonderment", she just had the music in her, nothing would hold her back!
Elvis at one time was madly in love with Wanda Jackson.
