For me, the best reason to stay sober is to stop giving an enormous amount of tax money to my government. I don't know what it is where you are, but in the UK about 70% of the price of a standard bottle of blended whisky goes to the taxman as Value Added Tax and Excise duty. I don't want to hand it over the b******s any more, and it's helped to keep me sober for 12 years, along with the following the programme to the best of my ability, while ignoring the manipulative rubbish that goes into it.
You certainly have alot of time on your hands for hate ......I just don't get why you need to prove your false sense of superiority. If this works for people and their lives improve, what's your problem?
AA does not do very much -- a place to hang out until you get better, get worse or stay the same. I think that is why some leave -- they see that it does very little.
you know what's good about AA? you can walk away, regain your sanity in a relatively short period, and re-connect with real humans again.
you can recognize that anger can be a force for positive change, trust your own feelings again, experience joy without positing its source as some invisible higher power, and still stay sober.
and you can see the true believers for the fools they are & sit & wait for the truth to take most of them out at the knees.
would exactly what were so? that most people are glad to leave AA then stay sane, sober, & happy without it?
or that even by AA's numbers the herd is demonstrably thinning & that as the public at large starts to see the organization for the farce that largely is even more will leave?
no more sick & suffering for you to save with your dull, empty 'spirituality'. it's not a matter of 'would' - it's a simple matter of 'when'.
Mike, Mike....Did ya take the "ass falls off" thing literally? Goodness Mike, you cannot be that ignorant! So if you aren't that dumb, then you are being DISHONEST!! Yeah, that's it! The coin under your tongue? You know it's a joke, right? Mike, you really go out on some limbs with these silly videos, this is the worst. I better warn people not to say the "ass" or "coin" thing anymore cuz you got confused and thought it literal!! LOL Mama faye
Do you believe ill-conceived, dumbass humor to be a sound substitute for helpful advice? The confused, hung-over newcomer certainly has no idea what you are getting at with your stupid suggestions. Mike
No I certainly do not believe the humor is a "sound substitute" for helpful support. That is why I have been going 23 years and have NEVER said those things! Goes to show how you "cherry-pick" your issues here, ignoring the good to focus upon the dubious. In AA we share lots of things, much more than what you post. It is not wise to give or take advice. Someone gave you advice and look what happened to you! Experience, strength, HOPE! Mama Faye
We did a video about what is good about AA. Didn't receive a lot of attention for whatever reason. There is no end to the ridiculous advise dispensed in the rooms of AA. After 23 years, you already know that, tho. If AA doesn't give sound advice regarding sobriety, what good is it? Mike
About "suggestions" Here in London, there are a number of real cult-like meetings founded by David B (Birtwhistle, now deceased) who hand out a list of "six" daily suggestions to newcomers on a card. These are as follows: 1. Pray on your knees for a sober day. Thank God at night for a sober day. . 2. Ring your sponsor. Ring 2 newcomers. 3. Read the "Just for today " Card and the Big Book. 4. Get 2 service commitments and 2 homegroups. 5. Pray for people you resent. 6. Pray serenity prayer.
Nice video! I heard the same advice and none of it is in the BB. I have done some research on predator type people: they usually are the most charming & covert people who are the most difficult to spot until it is too late. The people who call themselves winners are often the losers. Even sincere members are dragged down with the rest. I really tried to apply that nonsense with terrible results & made my life worse. I wouldn't get a sponsor ever again they want to be sick forever.
Yup, that's my bro, Tony. He rolled into the Noon Group a mere 13 days before I did. We have been friends ever since. We kind of propped each other up as we lost our AA illusions. It's great how that works. Mike
Great Video James, gave it a five star rating. In everything there are grains of truth and warnings. Keep to good choices and hopefully sober. This is video carries a sophisticated message and actually serves those who might be in fellowship, and those looking for alternatives to AA. By the way please mention more alternatives too, its an area I neglect without intention, just lack of time. Regards don, and apologies for any previous commentary, we all have bad days in recovery, me included.
From time to time, we take down dated or slower-moving videos. We have had more than 40 videos linked here for awhile, and feel that many may be too much saturation for one youtube site. We currently have more older videos which aren't linked than we have available for viewing. If there is one you want to see, let us know. Mike
I would suggest to any newcomer if your thoughts and feelings start getting confused it is the goal of the program (to make you worse) & not "you". I am glad I left at 3 years & I was alone when I did, but my gut instincts told me to "leave"!!. The pain of deprogramming has been worth the freedom that comes from being able to think and feel freely for myself again. The biggest lie of AA is that if you leave you will go insane & die it is a fear tactic to keep you sick & in AA for life.
How I wished I had that warning when I came into AA! I did not trust so I was encouraged by a friend of over 20 years to "trust him & the fellowship" to help me. AA destroyed my friendship forever after I fell apart being exploited by the nonsense. This friend became abusive towards me in mtgs and after being close for 2 years he pretended not to know me and refused to speak to me. How weird is that? Now I realize he is a pathological liar, & a sexual predator creep with 15 years as an AA guru.

I spent a year in AA, going to as least one meeting a day. The advice in this video is sound.
