John Frusciante is a fine guitarist. He's got a great sense of phrasing and his chops are solid all the way around. By far my favorite Chili Peppers guitarist. His work on Blood Sugar Sex Magick influenced me a great deal, as this music came out at a time when fusions between black and white styles was just getting started. John Frusciante did his small part to make that happen. A good musician, with a formidable improvisational ability.

Listening to his solo records especially his newer ones it is clear that hes influences come from many different styles of music, but at his most electric Hendrix and I would say Eddie Hazel are big time influences. OKAY, EVERYONE... Buckethead is a perfect example. Speed is only ONE of many components and is only necessary when it is necessary. Listen to Electric Tears, it's VERY slow and beautiful, but then Soothsayer also uses a lot of speed in the solo, and is still beautiful. Speed only matters if it fits. Feeling is the main idea, and if you can feel it, then you can feel it. With John, you can feel it, but you can also feel his funkier stuff too, and that's just how it is. PS, A lot of metal's awful.
