Ok so by the sounds of it you got done by some bad agencies, just iike every industry we have companies out purely to make a quick buck, some advice, dont blindly register for every agency that offers a job do some reasearch on the agency, talk to your consultant, if they are half descent they should talk to you and be a CONSULTANT if they are unable don't work with them.

Agencies do not benefit by just getting you on their books (you dont pay them anything). The companies pay them to find the right people and the reason they do this is so that their HR departments dont have to waster their time interviewing people that are lazy, have bad attitude and think the world owes them a living .... people like errrm YOU
Agencies would not pay £5.00 per hour and charge £15.00. To pay £5.00 to you would cost the agency £5.00 plus holiday pay (about 12.07%) plus Employers National Insurance (13.8%) plus there fee (80p 0 120p per hour).
If you went on a long term temp job and were told that there was no work after one day, chances are the company you were sent to told the agency that you were not wanted back (for whatever reason). Did you do a good job? If you did then you would probably have been kept on!
If you people spent more time doing something positive and less time complaining, you might actually be employable. I use a walker and cannot get hired by ANYONE here in Portland for a car wreck that was not my falt. They have non existant jobs and get away with massive discrimination here because we are a at will state. This just happened to me today. I signed on and saw this job from the job point. It was also on their system. The job states that you work Thurs/Fri, 15 hours a week.
Thinking I was gonna get it, I rang them. They told me to come down and register. Which I did. when I got there and registered, they interviewed me and told me something else. The job they advertised didn't exist. They told me that there's no work. I asked this lady if she was doing this to waste my time. She replied: No!

I think that the problem that this lad has is that no-one has been honest with him. I don't get paid to register people, I get paid to place them, therefore, It is in my best interest to find someone a job. However, if that person does not have the skills/personality to match the role/company, they will not get the role. Someone needs to be honest with you to tell you what you need to change and you need to listen to a professional like myself who has a fantastic repuation in this industry.

If the recruitment industry wasn't essential to business in the UK it wouldn't be worth about £23billion a year. Saying all recruitment agencies are liers (or liars) is like having a bad meal in one restaurant and saying that based on that all restaurants in the country are bad. Look for agencies that are REC accredited as they will have proper processes and quality standards.
Even REC accredited agencies are liars......recruitment consultants have to meet targets or they get fired, so to try to keep their jobs they lie to candidates & clients alike. Not all agencies are the same, any "high street" recruiters are failed specialist recruiters.
I'm in specialist IT recruitment, we only get commission on placements made and contract rates are to cover and process paperwork, if I place a contractor I expect to be paid for the amount of work to get them placed!!!!

I have worked for agencies some are better than others, I have had alot of lies told me and have emailed my MP for Burton On Trent Staffs, the way to hurt the agencies is not drop to their level of swearing and abuse keep a mobile phone on you record them lieing and take it to your local paper and people will see what they are like and not use them and they will close down. There are some agencies that are ok but the majority are awful.
I run a small succesful agency. I find work for a number of people who are honest and reliable. I pay them as much as I can, charge the client as little as I can, and make a small profit. I pay my contractors each week, but don't get paid by the client for three months.
From what I have seen, I wouldn't employ you if you were the last twat on god's earth. Try changing your foul mouthed 'world owes me a living' attitude and you might make it further than a cleaner. Moron.

Agencies are a joke. Advertise jobs that are non existent, get you to register and then you never get offered a thing. The politicians and the media are so fond of saying Brits wont do certain jobs. Brits apply for the low paid menial jobs, but are descriminated against by employers and the like, who feel they will get a better deal by employing a Pole or such like.
cha1biking the reason why a company would employ you to find people is simple, to save money. Money is saved in administration costs in regards printing and sifting applications. No time is wasted by company employees interviewing individuals for the job. The most important cost saver is of course advertising......but shouldnt you know this already? Was unemployed for a while, applied for a few jobs posted by agencies, got nowhere, same experience as you. Job Centres should refuse to list agency ads, just wastes everyones time (maybe good for those who need to be "actively seeking work" without actually finding work). Good luck in your search.
Sorry mate. I am a recruiter & you get a lot of unqualified people trying to apply for jobs they cannont do. The only reason companies pay recruiters fees is because they can find candidate's that they cannot. They have to go through a lot of candidate's in order to do this. YOu were just one of those candidates. They must search for that needle in the haystack.

The normal mark up on food operatives is between £1 to as low as 50p depending on the number of workers supplied.

The reason companies pay a lot of money for recruiters to work on their behalf is very simple, its saves them doing it! recruiting staff is very costly, both time and money! and lots of it.. if there is a vacancy, therefore, work not being done, how would the manager have time to advertise, and cut out all the crap, interview the few good ones, its just not possible... they pay for time, and they pay for the convenience of NOT having to go through shite cv's.

Also they advertise their jobs abroad, you get the job for three weeks if your lucky till they farm another pole over, the reason they do this is because they'll put 6 poles in a three bed house charge them £70 or £80 rent to share a room a week, also charge them £30 or £40 for transport, the poles work for a year then go back and buy the village they are loaded in their country with the money, were as we can barely survive on it here due to the cost of living!

Before pointing out the spelling mistakes of other people LissyLissy1979, take a look at your own mistakes. You spelt didn't as didnt. Take a look at this line you typed "I am a recruitment consultant and pride myself on being a helpful and honest to my candidates". Instead of putting an "a" in there you should have said "as helpful and honest to my candidates".
Thank you for pointing this out to me DuffBlimp2. I would like to correct you though, these are in fact typing errors due to the state of the keys on my laptop as it is rather old. I have not spelt anything incorrectly I have simply accidentally ommited an apostrophe and the letter 's' due to the keyboard. Whilst we are on the subject of corrections, if you are going to type correctly you should put two spaces after a full stop and I shouldn't have 'said' anything, I should have 'typed'.

Agencies would not pay £5.00 per hour and charge £15.00. To pay £5.00 to you would cost the agency £5.00 plus holiday pay (about 12.07%) plus Employers National Insurance (13.8%) plus there fee (80p 0 120p per hour).
If you went on a long term temp job and were told that there was no work after one day, chances are the company you were sent to told the agency that you were not wanted back (for whatever reason). Did you do a good job? If you did then you would probably have been kept on!

This just happened to me today. I signed on and saw this job from the job point. It was also on their system. The job states that you work Thurs/Fri, 15 hours a week.
Thinking I was gonna get it, I rang them. They told me to come down and register. Which I did. when I got there and registered, they interviewed me and told me something else. The job they advertised didn't exist. They told me that there's no work. I asked this lady if she was doing this to waste my time. She replied: No!

Thanks for the post of how bad things are in Oregon and the US. Agencies do not have work AT ALL and will not hire you if you have been in an accident or wreck and blame you for the accident. I have a 6 year degree and no criminal record and NO ONE will hire me at all for work. Agencies know advertise jobs that are NON EXISTANT jobs and they know it and are liars. you're also right, they do need to interview people to hit targets - infact a lot of your comments are partially true...

I think that the problem that this lad has is that no-one has been honest with him. I don't get paid to register people, I get paid to place them, therefore, It is in my best interest to find someone a job. However, if that person does not have the skills/personality to match the role/company, they will not get the role. Someone needs to be honest with you to tell you what you need to change and you need to listen to a professional like myself who has a fantastic repuation in this industry.

If the recruitment industry wasn't essential to business in the UK it wouldn't be worth about £23billion a year. Saying all recruitment agencies are liers (or liars) is like having a bad meal in one restaurant and saying that based on that all restaurants in the country are bad. Look for agencies that are REC accredited as they will have proper processes and quality standards.

I'm in specialist IT recruitment, we only get commission on placements made and contract rates are to cover and process paperwork, if I place a contractor I expect to be paid for the amount of work to get them placed!!!!

I have worked for agencies some are better than others, I have had alot of lies told me and have emailed my MP for Burton On Trent Staffs, the way to hurt the agencies is not drop to their level of swearing and abuse keep a mobile phone on you record them lieing and take it to your local paper and people will see what they are like and not use them and they will close down. There are some agencies that are ok but the majority are awful.

I run a small succesful agency. I find work for a number of people who are honest and reliable. I pay them as much as I can, charge the client as little as I can, and make a small profit. I pay my contractors each week, but don't get paid by the client for three months.
From what I have seen, I wouldn't employ you if you were the last twat on god's earth. Try changing your foul mouthed 'world owes me a living' attitude and you might make it further than a cleaner. Moron.

1. Have you ever thought to ask why after one day you were let go? Possibly your work performance was sub-standard?
2. Next time you see a job advertised, call first and ask if its an actual job and if your resume is a direct match, if not, dont waste your time travelling there
3. Agencies dont charge 15 per hour and give you 5, on a 5hr job they charge around 7, the extra 2 covers payroll taxes and admin costs
4. Some agencies are shite, do your research and find the good ones

The only reason companies pay recruiters fees is because they can find candidate's that they cannot. They have to go through a lot of candidate's in order to do this. The normal mark up on food operatives is between £1 to as low as 50p depending on the number of workers supplied.
If they cut short the contract its because the company gave feed back that you were not very good.

The government dont mind? why would they stop recruitment? recruiters fill jobs. employment helps the economy! if they didnt use an agency, its not like they'd have 5grand a year extra to give you, recruiters charge a 1 off, up front cost for permanent recruitment. temp, they pay an hourly rate. yes, recruiters make a profit per hour, but not like you think. its not like, we charge 18, pay 10, recruiter makes 8... there's tax, various insurances..might make 5ph.. we need to earn a living to!

I can see the point in a(specialist trade person)occasionally needing help finding work, but warehouses, food factorys get lost your all crooks, most of the time, the people who give you the contracts are doing it on behalf of the company they work for it's not their company and are getting a kick back or are related to the person who owns the agency, how can this be considered fair? The reason companies pay a lot of money for recruiters to work on their behalf is very simple, its saves them doing it! recruiting staff is very costly, both time and money! and lots of it.. if there is a vacancy, therefore, work not being done, how would the manager have time to advertise, and cut out all the crap, interview the few good ones, its just not possible... they pay for time, and they pay for the convenience of NOT having to go through shite cv's.

Also they advertise their jobs abroad, you get the job for three weeks if your lucky till they farm another pole over, the reason they do this is because they'll put 6 poles in a three bed house charge them £70 or £80 rent to share a room a week, also charge them £30 or £40 for transport, the poles work for a year then go back and buy the village they are loaded in their country with the money, were as we can barely survive on it here due to the cost of living!

another thing, to those who hate how recruitment works, let me give you a reason why sometimes there's no love from them.. the clients are the customer... the candi's are the product.. why would a recruiter sell a shite, broken, used, cheap product to a valued, paying customer? i personally recruit about 2-3 people a week.. i also turn away atlest that many, explaining i dont think i can help them... atleast i dont lead them on, or try stuff them around.. its much better that way! goodluck to ya

Like it or not, recruitment is free service to the candidate, recruiters are paid by the clients to find the talent they require for the business to succeed. Before pointing out the spelling mistakes of other people LissyLissy1979, take a look at your own mistakes. You spelt didn't as didnt. Take a look at this line you typed "I am a recruitment consultant and pride myself on being a helpful and honest to my candidates". Instead of putting an "a" in there you should have said "as helpful and honest to my candidates".

Thank you for pointing this out to me DuffBlimp2. I would like to correct you though, these are in fact typing errors due to the state of the keys on my laptop as it is rather old. I have not spelt anything incorrectly I have simply accidentally ommited an apostrophe and the letter 's' due to the keyboard. Whilst we are on the subject of corrections, if you are going to type correctly you should put two spaces after a full stop and I shouldn't have 'said' anything, I should have 'typed'.
