  • Are you using or does Bill use heavier strings in that slack drop C tuning.. Nice for double bends. When you kick into that lead it's like a different video. Loose flowing beautiful. Those rhythm sections with scales are amazing exercises. I actually use devinations as a warm up before gigs (playing classic rock cover...;().

I especially like those harmonics you were catching with Kim's Guild.

Do more of these and F the nitpicker losers who don't post anything!

  • @stratdoc thanks, i appreciate it! i use d'addario or ernie ball Light Top/Heavy Bottom strings (10-52 guage) i'm pretty sure mastodon uses the same guages. new album in two months..can't wait!

  • I applaud you because you are the only person I can find that plays the fucking chords behind the solo! And you played it slowish so I could get a jist of what you're playing. So thumbs up to you man.

  • DUDE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE EMAIL ME THE TABS FOR THIS SONG!!!!!!!

  • @awesomerocker26 i dont have any tabs. i wrote down some parts when i was figuring it out but those are long gone. it takes forever for me to write out tab, if i do use any tab its the same shit everyone has access to online...i just modify it from what i learn from live footage. sorry

  • Definitely look up some tabs to get a better idea of how to play this one properly.

  • @sealhammer here's the thing, this isnt intended to be played in tempo, along with the song, etc. its my way of giving a lesson. its not 100% accurate, not played flawlessly, and sounds and looks like shit. but what i am trying to accomplish with what i have to work with is to play a part, and then play it slowly. i made this very shortly after figuring it out so it is VERY crude. my goal was to show others MY INTERPRETATION of the song the way i learned it by using my ears and eyes.

  • everything between 0:20 and 0:34 is wrong.

everything between 0:48 and 0:54 is wrong.

Work on your alternate picking during the verse.

You played the pre-chorus wrong, you had the right idea in the chorus but that was wrong too. You actually did the bridge really well in comparison to the rest of the sections before it, though it would help to cut down on the distortion a lot during that section. I don't know about the rhythm during the solo but the chord around 4:05 doesn't exactly sound right.

  • @sealhammer do you think its wrong because i play it fast? i only did that for sake of time. the pre chorus is exactly the way bill plays it (watch the making of dvd..in slow motion..its right!) and that chord that you say you dont know about is indeed correct, just watch decent live footage. as far as tabs, why do people think that because it is tabbed its HAS to be correct. there are many different ways to play the same riff, chord, etc! i do it the way mastodon does! just watch them play!

  • dude awesome. i dont understand youtube. ive been searching for mastodon videos for like 3 months straight and ive never come across this. even though i have searched many times for "mastodon oblivion guitar lesson" and other lessons also and here you have a bunch of them. thanks for throwin me a msg. i'll be studying these vids for a while.

  • @juicerooster yeah, it always seems like i have to dig deep to find the good youtube videos! hope the lessons help, theyre a little crude but its the best i can do with what ive got to work with!

  • what kind of guitar do you have (Who made it)

  • @christianb12001 its a guild s-100..a la kim thayil!

  • do you have a tab for the solo? i'd love to have it. love the song:)

  • i do not. figured it out by watching brents magikal fingers..he's my go to tab replacement!
