I like the transporter not only cause its faster but because its built more ''agresive'' It just looks better and also the vw is higher wich makes it also better. I prefer the vito not as much as a van but more as an mpv. The vito is more car-like then its van-like. If you really want a van that can work hard and also be fast buy vw. Also merc needs more maintaince then the vw also the merc is expensiver and you dont want that as an hard worker.

VBH is a dopey Tart. I remember her in karts years ago. The Vito is much quicker and better handling that the T5. I have driven both the T5 is comparison to the Vito. Somebody is obviously getting a nice swag bag of dosh for that VERY Biased Report.

And yes...The Vito goes like the preverbal whether the TC is ON or OFF. The T5 cannot touch it.

Traction control is a safety feature you daft moose! You invalidate the insurance if switched off. Mercedes would have deactivated it for you if you had asked, then the test could be more genuine.

With a heavy loaded van and wet weather, traction control prevents accidents.

As much of a merc fan i am , on power VW wins everytime i have a 130hp sprinter which is nowhere as fast as the 109hp vw Lt35 i had before it, infact when i traded the 109 hpLt35 in and drove my merc off the forecourt i wasso disapointed i nearly cried. Yes they have the power and torque to make progress fullyloaded but they just don't race like the vw's which mostly have 5cyls and rev beyond 3000rpm,as where sprinterturbos just cut out and leave a loadof noise.I love my chain drive cams though

@cheepchips Well what would happen is they would both be prosecuted for overloading and would not be allowed to move a wheel until another vehicle came and took the 630kg of unwanted load.

Sprinters and vw lt35's are 3500kg vehicles.

Have owned 2 Lt35's and now a sprinter 313 which i've had on a scrap mans weighbridge at 4200kgs, i made a few quid that day : )

@dustin1441 If I remember correctly, the T4 Transporter (known here in the USA as the EuroVan), the last to be offered here in the States, had a 24-valve 201 hp VR6. I wish this particular Transporter (T5) series was available to us here, you will have a flock of tuners, engine tweakers, pimp-job and custom stereo (1000s of watts and lots of subwoofers!!!) specialists all over it, just like every other VW that has made it to the USA, hell, if they can bring the Fiat 500 here, why not THIS beast?

@doubts If you knew how to drive you would never need electronic traction control, its called your right foot, know how the vehicle handles and you have instant traction control without added weight, same with ABS and everything else that changes how a vehicle handles. She knows how to drive, she beat a british police officer around a track in the same car. And she's got a racing license, something I doubt you have.

The Vito, I mean the vehicle itself, is complete crap compared to the VW. Yes, I'm German and I drove all of them, MB Vito Mk1/2 and VW T3/4/5. Don't get fooled by the Mercedes star logo. The VW is far better to drive and also the production quality is higher, which more than justifies its higher price. A VW Transporter normally gives you >20 years of service, a Vito Mk1 is worn out after 10 and the Mk2 doesn't seem better. Perhaps future Mk3 or 4 Vitos will catch up with VW, quality-wise.

i drive a mercedes vito on a day to day basis and its the best van ive ever driven it has the best interior than a transit cause the transit is so basic inside when i test drove the tranisit i hated it cause was noisey and very plasticy on the interior and the rust very badly after a few years but the engines are great they keep going forever the transporter will be my next van i think they look so cool

Hmm.. that Transporter is amazing... we also have Caravelle sold in here in Indonesia. But the Transporter is about half priced than the Caravelle. Transporter also serves as taxi..while Caravelle is set to be the more luxury one and compete the Merc Vito.

You can actually turn off the ESP and the ASR very easily. Either you take out one of the fuses (*g*) - or you just switch into dyno-mode.

Not everyone knows how to do this, but it´s possible. So for a real comparison it should be switched off.
