  • Not trying to be anti-Keith or anything..., but.., is there really any clear unquestionable footage of him playing a song all the way through and without him turning his back to the audience and camera ? Keith has a very good stage and photo presence ,but he's not like a Jeff Beck ,Jimmy Page or even Ronnie Wood type. He's pretty much just a Popular song writer Rock guy. I've watched him off and on for over 35 years and he's a cool Rock legend. But not a guitar hero.

  • Absolute fucking shite.

  • It's amazing the difference in Keith's playing between the 2002-2003 tour and the 2005-2007 tour. He does seem to have better luck with solos on his Gibson ES-335s than he does on his Les Paul juniors.

But looking at his fretting fingers up close, its a wonder he can play at all.

  • people who are trashing keith dont know a fucking thing about richards the stones or rock n roll..... its not about shredding and playing a boring 15 minute solo. its FEELING!!! you people are fucking lame.

  • you dead right

  • Stop arguing bitches. Just watch, listen & enjoy.... Sheesh.

  • Keith richards is on of the badest guitarists iv ever heard, don't even know why i checked this out....

  • dude keith a rockstar poser wtf eddie van halen is a freaking lil bitch compared to keith richards keith richards aint a rockstar poser man van halen aint even that great man the stones and keith kick van halens ass any day

  • Tragic, just tragic.

  • Wankers comparing Keith with soloists. Keith's guitar genius was about texture, tunings and the progression of the rock guitar from Berry & Diddley to the '60's & beyond. Keith was never about the solos. Listen deeper

  • @slowuncle exactly, thank you

  • keit god live.....

  • ur sucha dumbass for that comment i mean for one thing ur names frenchy 2nd of all there guitar playing is completely diff styles and genre's of rock keiths the definintion of rock n roll n hes more of a rhythmic player so shut the fuk up and go drop a toaster in ur next bath

  • The list wasnt about technical skill, it was about how innovative they all were. Kurt created an entire new genre of music (grunge) and i think he deserves his spot. As for hendrix he basically invented the art of using disortion and therefore rock lol.

  • hendrix did not invent distortion.......

    o well...

  • Hendrix invented a blues style all his own. You can't hear a barr chord with a deadened A string and not think Hendrix.

  • Hendrix wasn't the first, he was the best, and Kurt didn't create grunge, Neil young isn't called the godfather of grunge for nothing

  • @RickJamesJW Kurt didn't create grunge, he was just part of the band that made it popular. I think Neil Young was probably the first to have a 'grunge' sound.

  • The best!!! Keith = GOD!!!

  • i may get thumbs down for this

but mick taylor was alot better man!

  • keith is the absolute best guitarist evrr!!! joe perrys awesome 2, same with jimi h. but keith is the top dog

  • Keith is the best guitarist ever!

  • totallly agree!!!!!!

  • @LesPaulGoldTop21 what a fucking wanker this keith richards is - just because he belongs to a popular band you are all creaming your pants when the cunts gets up and plays. i cant hear more than 10 notes in his solos and could do better on a recorder. compared to SRV or Page this guy is less than mediocre. brainwashed twats

  • @LesPaulGoldTop21 what a fucking wanker this keith richards is - just because he belongs to a popular band you are all creaming your pants when the cunts gets up and plays. i cant hear more than 10 notes in his solos and could personally do better on a recorder. compared to SRV or Page this guy is less than mediocre. You brainwashed twats crease me up with your bullshit comments about how great he is!

  • I'm just gonna say it, Kurt was an awful guitarist. I can't think of one song he did that showed any type of guitar playing talent. And I don't even think he was that great of a songwriter. Sure, he was different, but I can't stand Nirvana. I mean, it's original, but not good. It's no fun to listen too. I wanna hear music with the chords in the right key. I'm all for going against tradition, having some out of key notes in your solo, but only if it sounds good. He was unique, not great.

  • angus young????????!!!!

  • Don Felder- Eagles never got the credit he deserves. Kurt Cobain? I Never seen anytime where it just doesn't show him angrily hitting bar chords while screaming. Don't know why he's there...but Frampton??? Frampton anyone? Mick Taylor? Chet Atkins??

  • Rolling Stone's "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" Do you agree? 1Jimi Hendrix 2 Duane Allman of the Allman Brothers Band 3 B.B. King 4 Eric Clapton 5 Robert Johnson 6 Chuck Berry 7 Stevie Ray Vaughan 8 Ry Cooder 9 Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin 10 Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones 11Kirk Hammett of Metallica 12 Kurt Cobain of Nirvana 13 Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead
  • Cobain is not a very good guitar player

  • but the reason why he's considered one of the best it's because of the music creation, orginality. That's what makes a good guitar player.

  • agreed. I seirously think Jimmy page should be moved up more.

  • @cliffthelightning

    Fuck that

  • its not close to acurate why ccobain and wheres van halen!

  • Kurt cobain was not a technically endowed player by any means, but he come up with some great fucking riffs with just a few power chords, and knew how to get the sound he liked. Music ain't no competition.

  • Fuck Cobain hes fucking garbage. Dont know about jimi being first.... No David Gilmour????

  • i dont agree with Cobain or Hammett. I will say that Cobain was a good musician/writer even though i cant stand him, but not a good guitar player at all. And Hammett to me is just another metal guitarist who can play super fast. I think Satriani or Malmsteen should be before Hammett. Hell, even Buckethead.

  • kurt kobain!!!???? he was a good musician but he never played really good the guitar please and slash?? where is ?? santana ?? and guitarrist like jose feliciano even lennon admired his talent

kurt jobain please izzy stradlin is very much better santana slash jose feliciano bryan may of queen look out

  • sail1948 what the fuck do you know? can you play better? its keith richards man! not mozart, its supposed to be rough and dirty thats how the man plays, and he plays it very well. keith is supposed to be a real down to earth nice guy in person as well another plus

  • Keith Richards is kick-ass, and a blues master, one of the best guitarists of all time.

  • god I'm so sick of hearing about Kirk hammet. Keith richards has mastered blues, country and rock. Kirk Hammet is just trailor trash who can play scales really fast. woooo

  • @0nai

    best comment ever

  • God that's awful. Drink and drugs have fried his brain!

    But still a guitar legend!

  • 'Ere - you takin' the mick or wot? ~ Keef

  • actually keith does the first solo on get yer ya ya's, mick t does the second much more melodic solo.keiths solos are raunchy, "tug-ish", barbed wire, riffy, rhythmic and yes imperfect, but very real human emotional expression.that's what those who like it like.

  • how the fuck can be??? on the rolling stone magazine its says, keit richards is the number 10 guitarist in the world...and kirk hammett is the 11...wtf...kirk is better then him.I am sure.i dont understand

  • Hey you Get out of my cloud...

Keith Richards is alot better than Kirk Hammett..sorry but that...Kirk Hammett will pass and go...Keith Richards write the rock n roll history...People who dont listen to The Rolling Stones know the classic stone song...not the same thing for metallica

  • it depends on what we're arguing. that rolling stones list was clearly based on influence rather than skill. i mean, i dont like eddie van halen, but he should've been higher than #70 if it was actually based on technique. that's also why kurt cobain was so high. single-handedly defined a new style. didn't mean he was that much better than the others.

  • the only fact you think of is how fast kirks fingers move. keith has made some of the most famous and most strategic riffs ever heard. kirk didnt do much of that, mainly hetfield.

  • keith is awesome and his solo kicks ass so all u Kieth haters, shut the fuck up

  • improvising in front of people is scary shit every little mess up sticks out in your mind but you gotta keep on running for that train if you fall off the train you gotta get back on

  • actually when an experienced guitarist mess-up an improvisation, they tend to get lucky cuz theyre able to change the musical key and try another melodies that sometimes turn out to be better than what they were planning to play first, of course that is only for improvised play, yet is very practical

  • Keith Richards OWNA

  • U GUYS ARE PRICKS!!! this isnt a solo!! this is an R&B/Jazz fussion song called josie!!! if u wanna hear a great keith rihards solo, check the undercover of the nigth solo!!!!

  • I thought the song was sympathy for the devil?

  • it is sympathy for the devil, but that "solo" is an EXCERPT of an instrumental jazz song called "josie"!!!

  • lol, ok then! My apologies.

  • Guitar Solo: a melodic passage, section, or entire piece of music written for an electric guitar or an acoustic guitar.

    dumb ass

  • shut up u motherfucker!!! what i ment is that if this solo doesnt seem so original is that its because it isnt a free jam improvised solo so you could see the real talent of keith!!!

  • then you should of said that before... And are you sure Josie was written before this song was recorded? Cause "R and B/Jazz Fussion"(*Fusion) didn't really exist in the 60s. It wasn't till the late 70s and 80s that it was recorded. I think the song Josie took the solo from Keith.

  • you get it wrong again, josie is most likely after sympathy for the devil, and the sympathy...'s solo from the record has nothing to do with the other song, this concert is recent, and of course the sympathy..'s riff is used is the original, but what im saying is that keith in this particular show perform the josie riff as part of his "improv solo" instead of the originally recorded solo, but almost all guitarists do that so its ok

  • its sympathy for the devil u cunt

  • "slash is da man"?? ha! and you are a fucking ignorant motherfucker asshole!! shut up and stop giving nonsense answers good for nothing piece of shit!! btw eric clapton is da man, you dipshit!!

  • carlos santana är bäst

  • carlos santana är bäst

  • carlos santana är bäst

  • the rolling stones list is bullshit, how can Slash not be in it? It needs to be updated and revised

  • it wasnt a critics list, but a suscribers list i think, but slash isnt that good you idiot!!!

  • Keith is not a great lead guitarist (as evidenced here), he is better as rhythym guitarist. Mick Taylor was their best guitarist.

  • Most overrated guitarist EVER!

    -Rocky James

  • Keith is rough around the edges and that's just how people like him.

He is not Clapton, he is Keith Richards.

    Trev, England

  • yeah Adrian you're totally not full of yourself.

  • Listen to Keith's guitar solo from Sympathy for the Devil on Get Ya Yas out...then his work on Sticky Fingers especially"I hear you knocking"

now travel to the 1986 Hail hail rock "n" roll, Keith rocks..He is the abstract expressionist of the riff world..

  • The solo from Sympathy for the Devil on get yer ya ya's out is by Mick Taylor.

  • i hate it when people say keiths shit... i mean come on, you'd have you be crap to be the lead guitarist for the most successful musical ensemble ever for 405 years wouldnt you? his rhythms and licks are just great to listen to, and at the time, the world had heard nothing like it

  • that doesn't matter much, cuz mick jagger is the vocalist but he doesnt have the greatest voice, what is a fact is that keith is unconventional, he doesnt look to amaze teenagers with long and fast solos, he just does his thing the way he wants it, and hes one of the best at it!

  • 405 years?

I thought there was something a little satanic about the stones!

  • maybe, but Jimmy Page could SO kill him

    -Rocky James

  • It all depends on what kind of stuff you like listening to. Keith is not nearly as technically skilled as pretty much every other popular guitarist out there, but he has a unique rhythm and improvisational ability. He also happens to be my favourite guitarist, even though I certainly can appreciate the technical ability of other players.

Just because something isn't YOUR kind of music and YOUR kind of guitar playing doesn't mean it has nothing to offer.

  • keith is playing stones. he has been playing it bout 35 years. old dog don`t learn new tricks. or does it?. i like see keefs playin. he`s got attitude. sleep tight and fun

  • how the hell is this guy NUMBER 10 ON ROLLING STONES GREATEST GUITARISTS!!!

  • because there are at least 10 more influential not to mention better guitarists

  • i was suggesting that he should be worse than number 10 not better. john frusciante should be number 2 not number 18.

  • 10 more INFLUENTIAL? Now, better, certainly...but more influential? This man forever changed rock music with his song writing...name 10 more influential...

  • for the best riff and rythem guitar in rock history.for being the first world famous blues based guitar player. opening the door for clapton page beck and all the others famous for solo's. but with keith it's for his rythem.and you'll notice he's the only one in the top ten famous for rythem which is testimate to hie originality.lots of more tech soloist but zero better on rythem. also for being the greatest rock n roll guitar player after only chuck berry.

  • ...no

  • Any heavy metal, jazz or blues guitarist plays more sofisticated stuff than him. He has great charisma but poor technique (more or less just pentatonic scale), and only charisma doesn´t make a musician to be considered virtuous.

  • Er... theres more to music than technique. Keith's phrasing and ability to play in the pocket is something a lot of people who claim to be musicians simply don't have. You're talking about one of the driving forces to one of the best-selling, longest-enduring rock and roll acts ever. He's getting by on more than charisma, I assure you.

  • he has arthreitis, you idiots.

  • Keith Richards is a REALLY REALLY BAD GUITARPLAYER for someone who is rated 10th in the list of all time best guitar players. And who put Eddie Van Halen all the way down, did they mix up names???????

  • Sympathy for the Devil I think...

  • which song is this?

  • a shit one

  • Sympathy for the Devil, I should know that, since I've played it live before and sounded rather similar to that.
