Everyone shouting their unfounded beliefs at full volume as long and often as possible for the "benefit" of everyone else would be truly horrible, regardless of best intentions.
But proselytizing doesn't work....so why do it? Why should I shove something at you that doesn't resonate with you....if there is a God...and He, It, She, Them...Whatever wants your Heart and Mind...you'll know it...You dont need my big mouth yammering on about it. Hugs Penn!!!
@buymosaic Think through what you just said, it's irrational. If proselytizing didn't work religion would have long died out. A good percentage of believers leave the church when they grow up. These get replaced by adult converts. I was converted through proselytizing, though I've since become agnostic. Many t mega churches are as much as 1/2 adult converts.
Penn, if he was a good man he wouldnt follow a doctrine that says youre going to hell.Pslams is OT and Ps 14:1-4 is very entertaining for the Atheist.
By giving you a book on Pslams he basically said youre an abomination and need to be put to death
This guy might be nice enough to protest clubbing seals or snapping the necks of mink to make fur coats, however he wont protest to his god or religious dogma to not torture you for all eternity just because you dont believe
@debateyourfaith actually....he probably wasn't doing anything at all like you are implying. In all actuality the book, Bible, that he was giving would have been a little New Testament that is made by the Gideons...and it happens to include the book of Psalms as well. It was not Psalms in and of itself.
Penn is right that it takes honesty and openness on the receiving end and a genuiness and real concern on the sending end for a meaningful dialog to take place when worldviews are so far apart...great message.
You would be amazed at the sheer numbers of believers praying for you because of this video, and mostly nice men and women just like your friend you mentioned. Good things are coming your way just by you're acknowledgement of good intentions.
Mr. Jillette -- I just wanted to say I really liked what you said and I appreciate how respectful you were as well. And just like the man who gave you a Bible, myself and MANY others are praying for you. It is my prayer, that God would reveal himself to you in a mighty way and the truth about Jesus. Jesus said himself, "Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me." ~Revelation 3:20. God bless you sir.
After reading some other comments, I would like to say I think there is a huge misconception of what it means to be Christian. It DOES NOT mean that we are better than anyone else. On the contrary, the Bible makes it very clear that we are all sinners in need of a Savior. The fact is, we have ALL fallen short of God’s glorious standard and are thereby cut-off from our Creator. That is precisely why God sacrificed his one and only son, Jesus, so that we would have a way back to Him...
...His Word (the Bible) says it best: “We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous...
...He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood.” ~Romans 3:22-25
...Who can argue that we (mankind) are sinful people? And our conscience bears witness also. And just think for a moment of not only your own sins, but the sins of the whole world. What, or better yet, Who can reconcile the sins of the entire world?...
...Again, the answer is in the Bible: “In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” ~1 John 4:9-10...
...You see, out of His great love and mercy for us, Jesus reconciled us to God, saving us from our sins and He appeased the wrath of God by taking it all upon Himself. “This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all.” ~1 Timothy 2:3-5
I would love for anyone to prove there isn't a God... What information does an atheist go by? How do they know there isn't a God? If there is no God how did we come into being? Who created the bodies of all creation to reproduce. How did the eye become a window for us to see the world? The ear for us to hear? How did the intestines of a human become so perfectly in place? Who put the various colors in place for each species of bird's feathers. Who made the stars and univ to hang in space?
I'm ambivalent on proselytizing. I've always had a soft spot for the loons who go door to door. They seem so earnest, and I have to believe that they think they are helping. However, another part of me resents being spoken to in that tone of voice, so to speak. I don't like people who couldn't possibly know something that they claim to be certain about telling me that I deserve to go to hell. Even when they do so compassionately, it's arrogant and offensive on some level.
The truck analogy differs from reality in that most can agree on the existence of the truck and most would agree on the result of a collision with said truck.
This is not so with unsupported superstitious beliefs.
If you went into the street and pushed someone down claiming their was a truck coming, yet no one else saw any evidence of a truck; you may be justifiably charged with assault and ordered to undergo a psychological evaluation. Especially if you claimed the truck was supernatural.
he wrote in his book "God, No!" that he is going to see if all the people really praying for him after seeing this video actually works. He doubts it though.
This made me smile. I like that Penn could see the good in another human despite how he much he disagrees with the whole faith thing. I think this shows people with different view can still get on without a god telling them what to do. Proselytization cause debate so it's a good thing. Indoctrination on the other hand is a totally different kettle of fish.

How does Penn KNOW that there isn't a God? That's a close-minded as people who say they KNOW there is a God.
