@jarbo26 With respect to your opinion, I wasn't speaking about the style of other bands at the time. IMHO, Collective Soul is in a class by itself and has a sound that NO one else has. The minute I hear CS, I KNOW it's them, they have an awesome signature sound and that's why I do feel they are ORIGINAL and other than Pearl Jam, where are those other bands, they seem dated unlike CS. CS is still making music and it is current, even now, they are awesome to survive so long in this business.Peace

They are awesome!!! and yes their music has not gone out of style, a rare and unique band that has meaning in all of their music. I went to school with Ed and didn't see him for a few years afterward, but when I did he was the same super nice guy. At that time he was a struggling musician, and had all this great music he had written trying to get a break. He worked long and hard to get it too, they have their own style and sound its a perfect match

First of all, it's Seven Mary Three. Second of all, Shannon Hoon of Blind Melon was the male counterpart to Janis Joplin; no one sounded like him either. You sir are generalizing and pigeonholing Collective Soul as a "hippie Band." My little bro HATES alternative rock and he can identify any Collective Soul song in seconds, so obviously, no one sounds like them either. I suggest you retake Grunge 101. ;)
