For some reason I started singing this song to my kids today and it reminded me of this. My god, the Muppet Show was amazing! There's no way this would ever be allowed on TV today. Thanks so much for posting this and bringing back some great memories for me and letting my kids see it too. :)

My third grade teacher had a book of this song. I'd read it all the time! My teacher's assistant eventually made me a paper-bag puppet of the old lady. Too bad it's gone now!

But we wrap our kids in cotton these days instead of trying to prepare them.

This segment used to scare me quite badly as a kid! The idea of the lady dying and her stomach increasing in size, terrified me! What a terrible song for children!

I haven't seen this in years. I had no idea where I had seen it. Logic went out the window once she swallowed the goat. why would the goat chase the dog? He swallowed the fly purely on accident, people do it all the time. Well, not fly's per-say, but really small flying insects in general.

sigma20xx Since when did a silly childrens' song need to be analysed? It's all fantasy, daft lyrics, but fun for kids. As a child, did you ever hear a rhyme with the word 'bum'/'ass' in it? That would have fed you with giggles for most of your childhood. It's all just nonesense stuff that little kids can enjoy and not worry about who did what & why.

This is one of the few performances on the show the two old hecklers actually seemed to enjoy. But then, they did seem less critical of the show in the second season, didn't they? Or at any rate, less critical of the show than they'd later become.
