  • i have one ul80vt and it lags on team fortress 2 on lower settings! are u using windows seven 64 bit? mine came with it and it spends alone 1 gb of my ram!

  • @xandepope I'm going to get this laptop, have you tried using the highest performance settings for the laptop? and uninstalled all the bloatware if you ahvent done so already.

Plz let me know how that goes! :D

  • dude I like ur vid..can u put on some other games on..I'm interested on buyin' it..like Dirt2, Crysis2, etc..latest games

  • I just ordered this laptop from amazon.ca

  • what other games can this laptop play without any lag?

  • can it play bioshock 2?

  • btw, for how much did you buy your laptop?

  • when you say it has the ability to play games at a satisfactory level, do you mean it has some lags? as in not always, but sometimes? lolz just asking

  • Sweet, im thinking of buying this laptop soon.

  • At least turn on "Sync Every Frame"... otherwise your eyes will get hurt from the horrible screen tearings

  • recruit? dude you suck XD

  • @GTA4race With a camera infront of your face, I bet you'd suck too.

  • @GTA4race are you an idiot hes playing single player and thats the default person you play as

  • Is this laptop good with gaming? Also, is it good with other things like photoshop, internet media, graphics art, and stuff like that? Please answer!

  • @MrAmasian o.O The video shows how well the laptop performs with gaming. The laptop has two ways of processing video; one with an onboard integrated graphics card to use when you're not doing graphic-intensive things, like internet browsing, word processing, etc.; this preserves battery life. It also has an nVidia GeForce G210M video card (CUDA 512MB) to accommodate high-quality video-watching and gaming. The laptop allows you to switch seamlessly between the two cards. Answer to your q: yes.

  • so nice man, doesnt even lag one bit....geez geez, im still stuck between choosing a deskstop or a laptop...:( i want a powerful laptop...that plays these games lik

  • @Yourmotwashum Get a laptop with ATI radeon 5650.

That will have 5x the graphics of this, so u can play on an external monitor with full hd aswell ;)

they are pretty cheap these days.

1.3 grand AUD will get you 1

    Probably cheaper in America

  • How long is the battery life while gaming and also while working?

  • @youwinmagic I've never tested the extent of my battery life, but the indicator icon often says I have around 7.5 hours of battery life when I'm using the nVidia card and about 11 hours when I'm using the onboard card.

  • Enough said DOUBLESHOCK if these guys cant differ performance vs energy saving then they will never see the true value in this notebook. I currently own the ul80 and so far 850 you really cant beat this value It took me 3 months of search through all the available notebooks and IM GLAD I found my match.

  • the screen is soo shiny everything refelcts on it thats what i dont like. but the pc in general is great

  • thats actually not bad you know

  • The amount of heat that is emitted from the ul80vt notebook id say is fairly innoticable. If you want something that is sleak and very pleasant looking with some decent performance go for the UL80vt.

With the right power settings, overclock turned off, and discrete graphics put to sleep u can easily get close to 10hrs as if it was a netbook.

  • how hot did the laptop get when playing CODMW2?

  • I'm consider between UL80VT and the K42JR core i5 for personal use with gaming, the UL80VT 's battery seems to be better but I dont know if I use it for gaming, can I play COD6 for more than 4 hours or just about 2 hours like the K42JR

  • wtf, performance gets better with AA, seems like the graphics-card is made for AA

  • sorry, worse

  • I'll be expanding the 4gig DDR3 to 8gigs soon. Only issue with DDR3 vs DDR2 is YES DDR3 is faster but it has latency issues as well and plus DDR2 is alot cheaper lol. For this notebook DDR3 is the only option unfortunately. 8 gig ddr3 and a LOW VOLTAGE core 2 duo overclocked all is well =)

  • This core 2 duo in particular shouldnt have ANY problems running photoshop..If your into heavy graphics, 3d and what not. A nice little feature on this notebook is the dual graphic processing units. So if you have some serious graphical requirements you can switch to the nVida G210 m which is a decent class 3 notebook GPU.

  • Have you tried Photoshop or Adobe Lightroom on it, any thoughts on processing speeds with these programs?

  • i ran photoshop cs4 and it ran smoothly also vegas pro 9 i have the ul80vt with 4 gb ddr3 and all the other normal things

  • go back to school noobs this is the BEST bang for your buck at a reasonable $850..Sure theres thinner and more powerful baselines but how many of those brands were smart enough to make use of the low voltage intel SU7300 processor????? SIMPLE!! Its in a class of its own a TRUE energy saver.. Jus to ice the cake only ASUS and LENOVO so far I noticed been packing the SU7300 processor in a thin profile..Do ya research b4 u make comparsions..

"Smart notebook, smart you" - ASUS

  • 6-8 HOUR BATTERY LIFE on moderate load is wat I call RELIABILITY not to mention max 8GB DDR3. Did i forget the easy overclock feature??? lolz

  • 3rd. The design implementation of a thin profile shell and core 2 duo performance in low voltage form factor has clearly been achieved. If you cant see this it really shows your ignorance to understanding PERFORMANCE AND RELIABILITY ALL IN ONE.( GOOD FUKKIN JOB ASUS)

4th. I didnt purchase this laptop for the sole purpose of games and marketing selling points such as processor speed. I purchased this notebook because I needed a solution that was swift, light weight and good battery life.

  • First let me make some tech specifications CLEAR for all the BONEHEAD WAKBOOK AND ALIENWARE AIRHEAD IDIOTS and this is coming from an IT professional point of view.

1st. This ISNT a gaming notebook.

2nd. the only rightful comparsion for this notebook would NOT BE ULTRA THIN but rather LOW VOLTAGE. The major +plus for this notebook is that not only is it THIN but it emits LOW VOLTAGES for energy efficiency.

  • this is the best notebook of its class imo, and its beautiful, the only thing i wish it had was a backlit keyboard but who really cares

  • Do you think this laptop can play mirrors edge?

  • Yes

  • Compared to what other NOTEBOOKS?? IS the question..When you talkn 12HR RATED battery life at moderate useage then you can make comparsions. Honestly there isn't much laptops err i mean NOTEBOOKS that pack a TRUE ultra-thin profile w/ LOW VOLTAGE processor and pack a core 2 duo that claims true extended battery life. And if there is how much you want to bet its running the intel SU7300 low voltage processor.

  • ultra thin would be macbook air :)

  • mac sucks

  • duh of course, who dont know that? welcome to the 22 century, mac is now officially a tablet designer, notebook is not apple's style anymore

  • Comment removed

  • Umm, you should work on that grammar of yours...

  • dont change the subject, you should have realize that everyone knows that mac is not the best notebook.

  • Nope, alienware completely destroys any notebook from mac...

  • alienware notebooks is not really a notebook you would not want to carry it around, the m15x and m17x is mainly for desktop replacements, the batteries can only last for a few hours. so its only best to use it near a power sorce

  • how important is cpu speed? 1.3 ghz, isn't that slow compared to other notebooks? is surfing the web slow? sorry, i'm a noob :3

  • indeed it is slower compared to other notebooks. but with asus's turbo33 technology ( like an overclock) it boost your cpu to 1.73ghz and this laptop is heat issue free, and a graphix with is good enough to play modernwarfare at MAX settings!

  • which screen resolution did you used?

  • description says that he used native resolution 1366x768

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • hmm if there's no asus turbo33 technology and the asus graphix boost feature the gameplay wont be that smooth on high right?

  • definatly able to run starcraft2

  • AA has no difference. That I can see.

  • its the alienware m17x laptop worth it??

  • depends on what you want it for. some will say it's never worth it, but that's not true. If you need a laptop and it will be part of your daily life, you can either spend $1000+ on a gaming desktop PC and then another $800 or so on a laptop, or you might instead use that $1800 to go directly toward buying a powerful gaming laptop, so it then becomes your main computer. but it's only worth it if you use it near a power source, because the battery goes very fast.

  • well idk where tha hell you buying a 1000 gaming computer mines cost 650 but it can max every game out

  • talking Canadian $ and no you can't max every game out on $650.

  • yes you can get a amd setup with a 5770 can max everything, fuck intel nvidia too much money

  • @DOUBLESH0CK i can wed a custome desktop

  • @DOUBLESH0CK yes you can

  • @DOUBLESH0CK Never heard of a desktop?

  • @DOUBLESH0CK Hey mate. I am just wondering if you could run grand theft auto 4 on it with 30+ fps?

  • @EronyBoy ya

  • @DOUBLESH0CK

true if you build your own you can max out most games for around there. in CAN$ im canadian and my gaming computer was 700 dollars and it can max fallout, cod, crysis. but i know what you mean because my graphics card was on sale and it was still like 150 dollars. and that doesn't include a case i already had for the computer itself.

  • @NewMrVegas i am going to make a 800$ desktop for these xmas

  • Actually thats bs :) 650$ wont get you a laptop that can max out all game..ok you can max out BUT you cant play them in a decent framerate..

  • lol if you think im lying i can send the parts to you from newegg

  • @DOUBLESH0CK Not to mention you'll get triple the performance out of a PC with the same specs for cheaper.

Gaming does not belong on laptops.

  • @DOUBLESH0CK An $1800 laptop will preform poorly against an $1800 laptop also.

A desktop and a laptop is always the better option if you want to game.

  • @WeSoldOurLives Why does everyone think alienware is good, for your money you get fuck all, its best getting something that has good hardware than something that looks pretty, for the money you would spend on an alienware laptop, you could buy a laptop thats top end and could max out any game.

  • @WeSoldOurLives i dont think so ill buy a dell xps there like alien ware's but they do the same thing same but alien ware suks u pay all that cash when u get a laptop like that on the video and add your own parts = ]

  • when is start the game it says error and then says you have to have some video resolution of .... x .... , what do i have to do please help ??

  • did you go into the video settings and make sure the resolution is 1366x768?

  • i mean the game wont start i press the icon on the desktop and the a brown windows come witha a guy and the text modern warfare 2 and then that dissapear and then i get the error you have to have this video setting or somthing like that i cant come into the game (i know that i can change the resolution in video setting because i have the game on my laptop i try to get it work on netbook) do you know something ??

  • oh, you're trying it on a netbook? that's going to be difficult to run. If it's 1024x600 or some resolution that the game doesn't support, you have to go into the modern warfare 2 folder, then into the players folder, then open up the config file in notepad. press CTRL+F and search for r_mode (if it can't find it, remember to click search up the page as well). That should be the resolution setting, now change it to 1024x600 or whatever your res is.

  • also, if you don't see a players folder, because it might not be there if you haven't been able to launch the game, you should try copying it over from your laptop.

  • what is a players folder ??

  • again, if it's not there, look for it on your laptop and copy it over. It contains your profile information, and if you can't actually launch the game and start a profile it might not be there on your netbook.

  • btw if anyone wants to know, GTA 4 works on low settings at 800x600 at 30 fps. That sounds unappealing, but turn the definition option on and it all looks sharp. Oh and the aspect ratio is maintained. Basically, textures become low enough to where the cpu can handle it, without making it a blurry stretched image like you might think. Lighting still looks vibrant and reflections are still on the cars, so it looks great in motion. It's pretty awesome.

  • Hey i have a similar question to the one below about the contrast ratio...i was wondering if the black would be blacker with the g210m on or is it the same?

  • How much does this cost...Normally...not from best buy...Cause ill be getting this on a retail store

  • $823.53 on amazon (US) right now. I bought it for CDN$ 948.99.

  • How much does this cost normally...

  • Doublesh0ck do you notice any weird contrast ratio that everyone's been saying? Is it really that bad and noticeable?

  • yes when comparing the screen to my desktop monitor (samsung 226bw, 22") with the same desktop background I can see that the black on my desktop monitor looks blacker then what is displayed on my laptop, but I have no problems with it. Lets just say the contrast isn't the strongest, but it still does the job and everything looks sharp and clear.

  • The laptop never gets hot does it? Even under heavy load?

Can you post more videos up? (if you have time) of anything? haha.

Thanks for helping me clear things up. I might buy one of these compared to the n81 and x83

    -THANKKS! =)

  • when gaming with it on the g210m with turbo mode (1.73 GHz OC), it never felt too hot, just warm. just make sure the vent for the fan on the left side is clear and it will be fine. I don't think I'll record more vids because everything about it has pretty much been covered in other vids or screenshots out there, but I can still answer questions.

  • I heard the view angles on the laptop is bad. How bad are the view angle?

I'm really tempted to get one, but I'm just worried about the screen and the build quality.

  • horizontal viewing angle is fine, but vertical isn't good. looking at it downwards from above is ok, but looking upwards from below at the screen isn't good because all the colours go weird. looking at it straight on is good.

  • LOL nevermind.

  • so is this the laptop that best buy sells in-store?

  • is there a rattle on your keys?

  • @LazyTeenz what do you mean by rattle? typing on it is quiet, there is no clicking sound like a type writer or anything. it feels solid to type on, and very comfortable.

  • Well there has been talk on the forums that on the left side there's a rattle that sounds like coins or w.e. Also, like its flimsy.

Hows the quality on the laptop? Does it bend a lot?

  • no rattling sound. The keys are good to type on because they feel solid and sturdy and don't shake around. If I push hard enough I can see some flex in the keyboard, but it's barely anything and it doesn't happen during normal typing. no the laptop doesn't bend a lot, I can pick it up with one hand on the edge it feels sturdy.

  • lol you call that a gameing laptop my alienware get 70 fps on all max hehehehe xD

if it was a 9800gtx it would only be 20 fps off and also your core 2 duo is not allowing you to expierince the full potention of your gfx card, if you had a core i7 you'd notice a huge difference you'd probably get 60 fps on all max

  • @nzcookiemonster

    Again, you are not thinking.

70fps vs 30fps is unnoticeable to the human eye, you wouldn't even know the difference as has been tested many times in the past, nor will it look smoother only because you are psychologically programmed to think its faster so your mind and eyes will it is when its not.

You are a salesman dream cause you simply thing more is better like a gullible little idiot, lol.

  • @neil78b

well i get to use v-sync which you plainly don't use. cause you only get 30fps and also 30fps vs 60fps in a game, not a movie a game, since we actively are moving the character around and such and such we actually notice chop and lag, games reccomend 60fps is a safe and smooth rate to play at.

  • @nzcookiemonster

You have a lot to learn.

  • Amen lol

  • loooollolo

  • @nzcookiemonster lol is your alenware portable and easy to carry around? NO. Has the alienware got good 6-8 hours battery life? NO.

  • i agree with u... alienware is big...

  • You are totally an idiot.

  • @sandu1983, You're talking to someone who knows a lot about computers. I got a $2000 computer coming in (the parts for it) and I know that the insides of a mac do not boast a great GPU nor a great CPU for that matter.

  • actually this laptop does'nt generate to much heat im serius but now im thinking of finding a portable lapto thats still powerful, iv'e only found 1 so far but it was 2800 us very expensive but it was hand made xD

tell me if you found any

  • im sorry do some research i review that laptop and im sorry but no overheating problems i kept it running for 3 days and no problems and no overheating.

shame fagget you just can't aford one and your just jealous and ant get over the fact that this laptop here is shit sorry

get a real job and buy a rreal laptop

  • I shouldn't have used the term overheating, I meant it generates a lot more heat than most laptops. That's why a lot of people who get those alienware laptops get cooling pads, but obviously they wouldn't ship you a laptop that at stock settings could fry itself. You're right I can't afford one, it'd be cool to own, but I need something more portable, which is why I got this laptop. It's not meant to be a super gaming laptop, so I don't see why we're comparing them anyway.

  • Nice, are you able to play l4d 2 on high all the way?

  • just tried it, yeah model/texture detail at high, effect detail at high, shader detail at high and its smooth.

  • what fps rate are you getting with it on?

  • ok I checked on the parish level, and it's like 40 fps. 30 when I'm out in the big open areas, and 50 when I go in smaller areas like indoors. that is with shader detail, effect detail, and model/texture detail at max. no AA. turning shader and effect detail to medium gives like 10 more fps. then turning on 2x AA brings it down maybe 10 fps at most. so expect a very smooth game at medium-high settings with 2x AA. it looks very very nice.

  • That's awesome...funny thing is i get around 40fps too on all max settings with a gaming laptop with a 9800gts 1gb vr and 2.2ghs duocore....about to sell it to get this instead!

  • @homosapien4life do you have anisotropic filtering on at all. I have filtering set to trilinear. If you have those heavier settings set high up that's probably why. but remember on those max settings without AA or anisotropic filtering I get down to 30 fps in open areas whereas your laptop is probably getting no less than 40 in those same areas.

  • Wow.. cool post... can you do L4d2 now? or Fallout 3? I've got my ul30vt ordered.. can't wait.. especially after seeing this!

  • left 4 dead 2 runs at like 50 fps avg on medium/high settings. fallout 3 should work.

  • hahaha greatest laptop of 2009 that would be the m15x

  • yeah but anyone can stick a bunch of high powered hardware in a laptop case, but if it overheats and runs out of battery real easy, and is beefy and heavy, it's not the best choice of laptop for everyone. I think something like the m15x is good for if you want to use it as a desktop pc and you travel a lot, but always have a place to plug into. I wanted a portable laptop that could play a good number of games quite well but doesn't sacrifice portability to be able to do so.

  • @DOUBLESH0CK

oh wait dont worry about my last comment i didnt bother reading your comment i thought your whole comment was trashiny the dell lol nvr mind yeah i gues this is a good portable laptop but dude buy a sony viao there thin ase and there great on the inside dude

  • yeah there's 14" laptops with way better specs, but this is meant to be an ultra low voltage and very efficient laptop. the fact that it can play MW2 means it's definitely "good enough" for gaming though. it's all about balancing portability and performance.

  • @DOUBLESH0CK

soorry i didnt mean any of that xD soz

i was being a jerk iv'e just had enough of fagget mac users dissing pc even tho only 3% of america uses them tahts 3 mill.

owell soz man. also you know for an extra 300 US you could've gotten an alienware xD

  • @nzcookiemonster

    You are an idiot.

3% of 300 million does not equal 3 million, it equals 9 million. LMAO

But even further, Mac takes up roughly 9% upwards of computer users. 9% of 300 million equals 27 million, much higher than you thought.

Be ready for that to significantly increase since more users are aware of OSX , like the slimmed down easy to use version of OSX on the iphone/ipods.

Also, what dumbass would pay 300 US more for the same hardware. Next time think before you type.

  • @neil78b

no actually it is 6.1% of the pc market.

you're thinking of the apple brand.

    im talking pc.

  • @nzcookiemonster

nope, the apple brand has around 18% and their computers have about 9%, do a little research and stop being pissed because you don't no better.

  • Great video keep up the support for the greatest laptop of 2009!
