  • Oh man, I never liked this piece played as a ball dancing like everybody does, and my teacher forced me to change the way I liked to play this.

Now I hear RACHMANINOFF playing the way I wanted to do!!!!

  • I love this interpretation so much. I feel like my interpretation not only changed upon hearing this but became some derivative form of this. It's great how he's playing it "wrong" according to one teacher I had...no wonder classical musicians aren't known for composing/improvising anymore.

  • I wonder why Rachmaninoff was really good at playing other composers pieces but sucked at playing his own lol

  • @tjtheplay Rachmaninoff sucked at playing his own pieces?

You've obviously never played his recording of his 2nd Piano Concerto nor his Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini both with Leopold Stokowski and the Philadelphia Orchestra; he's brilliant.

  • @tjtheplay

I wouldn't say sucked. He must've had some reason for playing his pieces the way he did. Regardless, I can't really understand some of his interpretations of his own works.

    Ex: op 3 no 2

  • @4hm3dimr4n Rachmaninoff was also tremendously self-conscious about his own compositions, which could have constricted his ability to perform as freely and gracefully as when he performed the works of others.

Op. 3, No. 2 case in point - he hated performing this Prelude. It was like a pop song that audiences always wanted to hear him play. I'm sure by the time he got around to recording it, his distaste for the piece was probably at its strongest.

  • Chopin composed great pieces. I'm pretty sure they were all intended for quiet-play, but beautiful feelings.

  • Great musicians understand eachother and that is why Rachmaninoff can play Chopins nocturne so perfectly, almost like he knows what Chopin ment. This is touching.

  • Simply perfect.

  • little different~~ Chopin will be mad= =

  • reminds me of this girl amber

  • Astonishing, Well Done! (:

  • That's how this masterpiece should be played! Great Chopin, great Rachmaninoff!

  • ahh..i could cry all day

  • This is really really first rate! One thinks of Rachmaninoff as a heavy composer, but that may be an artifact of his interpreters.

  • @antimatterXXXIII His playing of Chopin has a very light touch without being weak.

  • *fangirl squeal* This is a gem! Rachmaninoff himself, playing Chopin!! SQUEEEE

  • So beautiful :')

  • i love classical music and this is my favorie

  • I always imagined that if one could translate falling in love into sound that this piece is what it would sound like, just beautiful

  • wow, I really loved Horowitz version but this one may be even better.

  • Прекрасно!!!

  • talk about evoking emotion...so exquisite !

  • In some place of the universe Chopin must be listenting and thinking "This is exactly the way this song was meant to be played..."

  • @crackerlip Definitely true! How perceptive of you....and, in addition, the angels are probably listening along with him. For Chopin was an angel come to earth.

  • Astounding

  • what a beutiful song makes me cry :)
