I can't wait to try this recipe it's looks so easy and I've looking an easy orange cake recipe like forever because my mom loves orange cake. Thank you so Much:)
My daughter and I watch your show together all the time and she asked for this for her birthday cake. Turned out great. I think it's my new thing to take for potluck. I finally subscribed my own self. Thanks.
juice of 1 orange.. ummm.. how much would you say that is? 1/2 cup? Im not using oranges but orange juice from a jug.. i figured that depending on the size of the orange will have only so much juice. and i couldnt see on ur measuring cup in the vid how much u had in it . thanks for any help :)
@HybridHumanSquid white flour is just a type of flour. Its otherwise called 'all purpose flour'. Self-raising flour means thats there has already been leavening agents added (what helps muffins/cakes etc. rise). Plain flour is usually for cookies or foods that don't require raising such as tortilla's or other flat breads. Only white flour/gluten free holds a self-raising range (organic flours usually do not) To substitute you can just use 2 teaspoon of baking powder per cup of plain flour :)
@MissPonderosa Oh~ Thank you so much for this! I'm a culinary student and the whole baking thing is confusing. I guess baking is not one of my stronger points. I'm still learning about all the types of flour and
I never realized there were so many, for so many different purposes. Again thank you very much! :3
@HybridHumanSquid Your welcome! Many types of flours! (chickpea, rye, rice, oat) any grain can produce flour (wheat is cheapest). White/bleached flour is heavily processed and in large amounts is not good. Becuase white flour has been processed so much its perfect for baking as it creates a light and fluffy end product (using flours such as rye does not work well in isolation when making bread!. More healthier options are whole-wheat (more of the grain intact) ask away, Im an open book :D
Great recipe. I just made marble cake yesterday, I'll try this one next weekend.
What is great about this recipe is the options you have for it. You could put any juice you want, maybe red orange, maybe pineapple, maybe even strawberry :)
Of course, the best is the original with orange, but it's worth trying.
Oh David! I bought my first grader a cupcake baker and we are making your cake into cupcakes now and I wish everyone could smell them baking. My little girl and I just LOVE you because I teach her to cook using your gifts to us. Lamington cookies and fans for life, brother ;-)
In a shop today I heard the song you use at the start of your videos in a advert playing over speaker and I couldn't stop laughing and smiling to myself, I looked so silly.
LOOKS GOOD BUT SOO MUCH BUTTER... i dont think id wanna eat it if i made it. if you gave it to me without telling me the butter content ill devour it. for sure. lol
You took a bite of the cake and your OH MY GOD made me swallow like I was the one tasting the cake! Absolutely makes me jealous I was not the one that got to taste the cake :(
If I try if myself, I'll probably add some orange liqueur or rum, just because I love alcohol in cakes. Oh, and I'd also serve it with something creamy, maybe some whipped cream or vanilla ice-cream to counteract the (presumably) strong orange flavor. :)
Are you kidding? I'd given it a thumbs up just from the name. I've been salivating from the moment you put in the orange zest. Yummy!!!! With that much butter it would have to be good, but I'll try it for Easter. Thanks!
This one looks soo good, that I'm making it for the next reunion next week! Now, most of my friends don't believe me, so I'm asking a professional here to describe one thing: What is the zest? I'm not giving my explanation so no-one can say I influenced you.
I am SO making this for my family!! Now,two admittedly quite stupid questions, but,I'll ask anyway: Presumably I could use another cake tin? And,instead of painting on the syrup,I could make holes in the top of the cake and pour it over?
@JackWilkins 1) Yes, you can use any cake tin you like and 2) Yes, you can poke holes and pour. Just be careful to do it slowly and gently so the cake has time to suck up all the syrup.
I just LOVE citrus cakes more than any other types of cake! Would you believe that I actually hate cheesecake and chocolate cake? But this! Definitely loving this!!!
@starvewars I think you're being a little dramatic. I've seen cake recipes that require twice as much butter. It looks like a lot, but when you consider the size of the cake, it's not really that much ;)
