Its a rubbish engine, an engineering feat yes but its still rubbish, pfffft 16cyls for 1001bhp, not to mention the four turbos, actually to be fair the 16cyls are really giving about 600/700ish bhps and the turbos are producing the extra horse, example 600bhp from the cylinders then 400 from the turbos, 100bhp each. it is possible with some powerful turbos.
On a usual engine, the centerline (CL) of each cylinder 1) intersects the CL of the drive shaft and 2) is perpendicular to the plane of the block-head interface. With this engine, you can see at 0:04 that you have a bank of staggered cylinders. So the conditions that I stated in the first sentence cannot both be true. Either the CLs of the cylinders are offset from the CL of the crankshaft or the cylinders are not square to the top of the head.
@kenp3L NICE. this is due to the "double VR" cylinder configuration.
TO ALL OF YOU: here finaly every so called "expert" who tried to explain the Bugatt Veyron engine can see that it is no W16 engine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT IS 2xVR8!!!! The VW W12 NARDO COUPE for example has got a REAL W12 engine
this car cost 1.5 million to buy but it cost 6 million to make. originally this was just a test but they decided to make and sell more and they lose 4.5 million every sale. :(
Yeah, the first thing I think of when I hear Veyron is suck. Just think of all those famous F1 engines over the years: all junk because of aluminum blocks and heads. (insert great-big eye roll here)
@hotrodsurplus bmw had 1500hp 1.5l turbo engines in the late 70's and they only used old car engines that had done atleast 100,000mile because then the engine block had twisted as much as it would, aluminiums great stuff just the yanks cant build for sh(t
made it diesel itd snap, vw golf con-rods are 20mm thick, in the veyron theyre 13mm, and the thing only revs to like 6500rpm as a petrol, a diesel version would only rev to around 4000, a v16 twin turbo diesel would be fun though, sure jay leno wold love it
Ettore Bugatti was Italian and he started the company, now it's all German tech and we can see it.
About the fuel, they really should make it diesel. I mean VW is the top in making diesel cars.. just like they thought of making a v12 diesel TT in the R8 (which would be insane), they should consider a diesel Bugatti. It doesn't sound all that good anyways, so why not do it? W16 diesel tt. With the tech Audi uses in their R15 they could pull off some great things without restrictions for LM1.
@FourSidedPiston well the v12 TT was an audi actually and nothing to do with vw other than the companys ar intwined, and yeah the veyrons way too muffled, and the veyron engine would b a useess diesel, it couldnt make that much more power than the twin turbo v12, and having a diesel veyron is like the navy owning the sr71, they wont let it happen, no way
In terms of displacement these are small block engines. when you run off all 16 cylinders the displacement is only 8 liters, and for a production car, 1001 horsepower out of 8 liters is amazing
true true, if the rest of the car can handle the speed and vibrations. You could get that far with 100.000. But still you will have some kind of dragster car or something, that is not really goed for 'normal' driving, where the veyron, you can still drive that as a normal car 2.
For what is it- $1.3M, I think we could all build something better you can drive... now, would it corner and stop as well? That depends on how much you know. I believe I could if I had the resources to design and built my own car. This car would get owned.
But this car is still fully luxurious on the inside. I think that is why it's so neat. The McLaren had a/c, but it was rather dull on the apppointments. It's still what I would rather own though.
if u r for looks...but me im not really in for looks if it haves power thats all i would want but really i just think engine block is just to big and yes its hot car but not what i want
truth be told its a staggered angle v16, but it depends wether you call it a v because is had 2 cylinder banks or a w because it as 4 cylinder angles...
(for each bank) the inlet cam has 16 lobes for the 16 valves ( valves per cylinder, 8 cylindrs per bank), and the outer cam does the same for the exhaust side, its no differnt to a normal dohc v engine
American cars suck being compared to these types of cars Bmw, Mercedes, Lexus, Acura, Honda, Toyota,Volkswagen, and any car that I forgot to include that aren't American made.
vcMalice, the body is made in Mexico. Just the metal body construction.
Engine is German. The oil fill up cap on my Jetta is in German. Also you can find out the car's percentage make from the local dealer. Jettas and Golfs (normal) are the only ones made in Mexico. The rest are 100% German manufacturing.
I prefer my body to be Mexican. Some guy hit-and-run my car, and the body wasn't damn expensive thankfully.
and the first person to mass produce cheap cars for non military use was Henry ford in Australia. now one of the most popular cars. you americans think u diserve credit for the existance of the universe.
@MattB613 I was about to argue with you about this but I started to consider a few things about american race cars and said oh fuck it he has a point, but still in my opinion the lexus LFA is a beauty its an outstanding machine compared to american race cars coming out of the line as STOCK.
@123ElTri this is true the LFA is a fantastic car but the GTR is as, or if not better, than the LFA, however, those two and few others are only as good sports cars to ever come out of Japan.
i love american cars more than any cars, but my hat is off to the germans, they have very unique engineering processes. germany is my second favorite country of cars =D
My crankshaft broke. Apparently it was a factory fault. When I contacted Bugatti, they said quite a few have had that problem, so if you've got one, watchout...
