  • Great job. By looking at this you can see how accurate both portrayals of the Joker are when it comes to the comic book version they were based on. Jack played the silver age Joker incredibly well. Heath played modern age Joker perfectly. Both actors did an incredible job with the character.

  • Batman 1989 > Dark Knight

Keaton as Batman > Bale as Batman

1989 Batmobile > Dark Knight Batmobile

Jack Nicholson as Joker > Legder as Joker

  • Is anyone going to point out what was wrong with Batman? True, it was a great movie, but it wasn't perfect.

    1. Batman uses lethal force.

    2. Bruce Wayne is supposed to be a rich playboy. Keaton didn't do this.

    3. Batman is supposed to be a martial arts master. Yet in this movie, he gets knocked around quite a bit. Especially when he's climbing the tower at the end.

On the other hand, it's not fair to compare Nicholson to Ledger as the Joker. Ledger could do it for adults only, Nicholson didn't.

  • Batman '89 all the way can't beat Nicholson & Keaton's performances Dark Knight sucks!!!

  • @STONECOLD1987

Batman `89! It`s been one of favorites/if not favorite movie ever! I`ve loved it since I was a kid, and just get better every time you watch it.

However, I love what Nolan has done with Batman. Personally I can`t compare either, they both tell different stories, and they`re both done so well!

  • Nice Job. Enjoyed the 2!!

  • TLDW

  • Holy Similar!

  • AWESOMETACULAR VIDI!!

  • how did you make that splitting screens on your videos?

and DjMagicBaron need some help, and know how to make a splitting screens to DjMagicBaron's new video on youtube

  • great job!!

  • i LOVE THEM bOTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Very nice video, I saw this favorited on another Youtuber's page.

  • These were both damn good Batman movies. Best Batman movies IMHO? Batman Returns (the second Tim Burton movie), the Dark Knight, and Mask of the Phantasm. Not necessarily in that order. Although I do love Billy Dee Williams as Harvey Dent. You can see why they didn't use him as Two-Face though. Just doesn't have the evil look.

  • @TheZacula actually tim said he was going to use him as two face but warners argue against

  • the dark knight looks more realistic.

  • Is there any chance you could make the '89 Batman you posted here but with the dialog from the movie itself with Elfman's soundtrack? Basically a modernized version of the Batman '89 trailer? Also, maybe touch up the Batman Returns trailer? (Even though that one was near perfection)

  • @AftermathRebel I could, haha, but I'm a little busy with other projects right now. I'm not sure it would strictly work like you're thinking with this trailer, since most of those clips you're only seeing part of lines and not very good ones at that.

  • @VaportrailFilms

I have a very big request, if you won't mind it.

Could you make another re-edit match video like this from the 1. normal trailers of Batman returns and The Dark Knight Rises? Pleeeese.

  • The Jokers was ALWAYS Batmans antithesis. Thats been his whole purpose since the very beginning.

HOW they do it in each generation really doesnt matter much.

  • Absolutely AWESOME!!!!!!!

  • I love tim burton's version!

J'adore la version de tim burton!

    :)

  • I like the 1989 one better but TDK was great too. I like both Jokers but Nicholson seemed closer to the animated series/comics Joker(yes I know the animated series came out later) but Ledger portrayed a more sadistic Joker.(and did a great job) All in all they are both masterpieces . I just like the older one a little more.

I don't understand why people have to bash one or the other instead of enjoying them.

  • @RevolverOcelot2008 Eh.... truthfully Joker has ALWAYS had a sadistic streak a mile wide. This time it just seems that instead of a thorough knowledge of chemical engineering, gang running, and gadgetry making, he seems to specialize in explosives, has a keen knowledge of philosophy and psychology (mostly psychology), and whilst the old Joker has goals, Ledger's is flat out insane. He is the antithesis of Bale Batman though. But yes, Burton's is closer to comics. This is a 'realistic' reboot

  • 1. Keaton is better ..Bale's actin is poor and his voice its just redicilous

    2. Nickolson is better actor then Ledger but his jocker is more cartoon alike, based on comic book character...Hith's jocker is more realistic, also as the whole TDK

as for me Batman 89 KICKS aaasss

  • Its easy to dismiss Batman from '89... it just shows how ignorant people today are by only basing a movie on a knee-jerk reaction.

Tim Burton made two damn good Batmans, and so did Christopher Nolan.

But I think we can all agree that Burton and Nolan BOTH look like film gods compared to Schumacher...

  • Burton was fantastic with Batman and Batman Returns. The had a much darker Batman, and very good films. Nolan was a little iffy with Batman Begins, as he was doing a more realistic version yet the scenes with Batman make his abilities seem magical. Did like how he used Ra's al Ghul though. Dark Knight was great. Unlike Begins, it is obvious his abilities come from skill, you can see him doing them, which adds to the realism and in fact makes it cooler. Good plot in all of these. Good films.

  • This clip showes, why The Dark Knight is better than the other movie 20 years before.

  • @qwuezalothus What it shows is how filmmaking style has evolved in those 20 years and even with all the changes, just how much they still draw on the source material. "Better" isn't an easy consideration to make with 20 years in-between them. If you took two groups of people at the same time and said "Go make a Batman movie", then you could prolly pick one easily. As is, it's not a fair comparison.

  • While Keaton is easily the better Batman, I preffer The Dark Knight. It has the superior Joker, Superior Action scenes, and everything in the dark knight feels so much Grander, like its actually affecting everything in Gotham. Even though I do love them both, I just think dark knight is the superior film.

  • sadly ledger died :( hes so cool

  • LOL!!! The editted trailer for batman 89 in this vid is much better than actual trailer for that movie

  • Loved this movie! If you want to watch it free & HD at my site visit my channel and look at my info

  • Good cut, which shows as "Hollywood" is working.

And then: who is the better Joker !?!?!.

Please indicate the times are changing, in 20 years, it is someone else who plays Batman, or the Joker".! Or?

Batman (and Joker) Rules for ever.

  • Jack Nicholson dosen't need makeup to playing Joker, his psycho profile make him the perfect "Clown Prince of Crime"

Heath was good actor but definitely not for Joker

    Jack forever!!!

  • @Blackeyed1389 are you kidding me. Heath went beyond amazingness and beyoned darkness to created one of the best jokers in this history that it killed him literlally

  • ledger vs nickleson?

    I cant decide!!!!!!

    theyre both great actors

  • i love this two batman versions.

  • ssssroryssss2

Batman '89 was virtually improvised with constant rewrites, no-one knew what they were doing from one scene to the next. It's amazing it makes any sense at all (and a lot of it doesn't); it's success was down to the draw of the Batman character, not its strength as a film. Tim Burton was so dissatisfied with what he did he jettisoned as much as he could for the sequel, a much more Burton-y film. TDK, on the other hand, is a Nolan film top to bottom. Far more consistent.

  • Very nicely done. You blended the two trailers together very well.

  • Batman 1989 is far better, far more indepth, MILES better soundtrack, Nicholson is more entertaining, the "tank" doesn't look like a batmobile it could have been used in any film. Sadly Hollywood now is only interested in making special FX scenes and bragging about how much they cost - dont get me started on JJ Abrams and his sunflares. 1989 is remembered as a classic and people are allready forgetting what happened in TDK

  • LOL

  • 5/5 Good Job

  • I enjoyed both of them about the same. But in the Dark Knight story, is the Joker (Jack Napier) the one who murdered Bruce's parents?

  • Like Vuja De

  • Batman('89) has two things better than The Dark Knight... First is the girl. I mean, come on! Kim Basinger is, like, 20 leagues above Maggie. The second is the fact that it's so 80's... And that's cool. Other than that... Dark Knight kicks Batman's ass any day...

  • lol hahahahahahaaa

But hey then theres good ole reliable Nicholson(!)

  • Right. Jack is the man...

  • The Joker sure likes to blow up things. x)

  • That's we we love 'im. =P

  • Bale is a much better actor & Batman in my hoenst opinion. I think the voice is funny as hell, but i also think it's great that he's not running (or swinging) around like Spider-Man with the same obvious voice as his Alter-Ego, and makes it more convinving that he's keeping his identity secret. Plus Christian Bale is just the coolest guy.

  • just... stunned... of the similarity!

  • new batman changed hes voice , so can people tell he is batman.

  • AWESOME video!

  • great editing

  • The two films are just two steps up from everything that came before them. Realize that in 1989, Batman in films and TV was more or less a joke: the original 60's series, the "Super Friends" animated-style shows, none of them were dark. The comics were, but nothing on TV or movies shared that vision. "Batman" was the first, so the Joker in that film was the realization of the Joker in the comics. TDK tried to bring it all into the "real" world. It's a brilliant film, but I still like "Batman."

  • Ha... 1:32... Knox and Foxx

  • You're the first one to get that, as far as comments go.

    =)

  • haha...wow, thanks!

  • Actually I liked both movies. The critics I made the two of them is: First in Batman, The Joker is the one who kills Bruce Wayne's family, I didn't like that. In the Dark Night is too long, I would stand-by Two-faces story for the next movie and tell how the Joker become the Joker... But for the rest both are awesome

  • to me, disagree if you must, the best Joker/Batman film was "Mask of the Phantasm"

  • Never seen that one

  • you should... it's really good

  • And these are two completely different movies...

  • Cool! I just found the 1989 film at a store for 8 bucks so I bought it! I watched and did see a lot of similarities between the two movies. I still like Nicholson's portrayal, but Ledger's was still the best. TDK Joker is what I would expect Batman's long time nemesis to act like. The Joker and Batman are opposite sides of the same coin. Great movies!

  • Perfect!

  • this was a great video

  • i love how you put thye two movies together i t was greatbut the heath leager's Joker was way better and more cunning.

  • The ultimate Batman flick would have:

    Batman = Keaton

    Joker = Ledger

Gotham = from the '89 film

    Music = Elfman

    Director = Nolan

  • The problem you find there is Director Nolan prolly wouldn't allow Elfman and the '89 Gotham in his film.

That's why he directed TDK as he did.

  • Then he's demoted to writer rather than director if he can't respect his fellow artists. If he can respect Zimmer then I'm sure he can respect Elfman. If not, then maybe Tim Burton, Sam Raimi, Bryan Singer, or other good directors can take the director's seat. This is just a what if scenario though, for no viewer actually knows what Nolan would or wouldn't allow.

  • That's not fair at all, Nolan's the director and he has a right to put whatever artists he wants into his film. If he wouldn't want Elfman than he has every right to that, besides, I feel Zimmer is a better composer anyway.

  • The producers have the right to choose as well. What if the composer was chosen first before the director? Let's say Elfman's already hired but then Nolan comes along and says "it's either him or me". That's not fair to Elfman at all, since he has composed the most memorable Batman score to date.

  • Bale owns Keaton.

  • Not w/ that ridiculous and very forced growly voice.

  • atleasts christian changes his tone of voice for different emotions that batman is feeling, keaton just spoke in the same voice the whole movie. even when he was confronting the joker about killing his parents he showed no emotion in his voice.

  • Not true, Keaton has different voices for Bruce and Batman. Bale's Batman has the same constant growling voice, which is why it's been made fun of by many people on the net: watch?v=mSAhuL8FJuQ

  • yeah he has a growly voice but it works, he got so intense when he was beating the jokers ass in the interogation room, or in begins when he questioned flask about the drugs, raw emotion. keaton's batman never showed that.

  • It actually sounds silly and, as pointed out in the video link, makes Bale seem too desperate to sound threatening. Which is why many people on the net, like NC, have made fun of it. My favorite description is that Bale's Batman "sounds like he had lung cancer". lol!

  • lol lung cancer. i think he sounds fine, but we all have our own opinions. who do you think played the better bruce wayne?

  • If Burton's script had focused much more on Bruce Wayne, then Keaton's playboy billionaire character would've been at least as memorable as his alter ego. Perhaps that's the problem w/ Bale's Batman. For Nolan's films have focused much more on creating a memorable Wayne than an equally convincing Batman.

  • @jp3813 those are some really good thoughts;

but what about batman material from other ages? - like some sort of contribution from mark hamill; and I disagree about keaton, I think bale is better as batman. And I dont think gotham should be old; in the animated series it was the 40s and in the film '89. I think modern times are just fine, BUT with dark atmosphere from the animated series and the 89 film.

  • nicholson is the Joker, Heath Ledger is the Joker...man don't u see how comparing these 2 is like comparing water to fire?

  • Most people dont like DK because it had a story. Just a kind of long one. Could have done with out 2face in my opinion. But both jokers rocked. I can't even tell its heath ledger under the make-up though most of movie. I like the trailer comparisons. Wonder if the "hit me" part is a little reference to the jet scene in the first one.

  • I'd imagine it is a direct reference.

The similarities between the face-off with the Batpod in TDK and the plane in the Batman was my main inspiration for this video.

  • then you would have a weak story, havent you read the old comics

  • The more I see it the more I agree it would make for a weaker story.

  • great production! A++++++

  • jack is the better joker

  • bull shit. what are you...retarded?

  • about as retarded as you are

    i like choclate milk

    ha

  • Both are real good Jokers in their well respected movies.Infact the three best jokers have to be Jack,Heath and Mark hamill.

  • Don't mean to 'beat a dead horse' but, some of the finest performances from Nicholson and Ledger!

  • You have to add Mark hamill I mean its a cartoon joker but he plays it very well.

  • stunningly well in the game. He IS the joker to me. Ledger was a great villain, great psychopath but Hamill is Joker to me.

  • @ELFanatic Your Right about that one I love all three jokers

  • 89' Batman had more of a gloomy and dark, gothic tone to it, that's why it's my favorite. TDK was good, but it was more realistic and set in a "modern" landscape, whereas 89's had more of a nostalgic feel to it.

  • pretty close to the original.

  • The Dark Knight Is A Remake Batman

HA HA HA HA HO Ho AH

  • Ah ah. It's a "re-imagining".

Apparently you only call it a remake if you don't respect the franchise.

  • not really, Its more a re-imagining of the whole thing, because Batman and Robin was not a good movie

  • Technically a remake, but a remake is when they have the original storyline and events, but remade to look better. Dark Knight and Batman Begins don't follow that requirement, however, it's still Batman.

  • No it's not you fucking moron.

  • The reason i said remake because i could not think of the word re-imagining

    that's all.

  • as a fan of both films this was very exciting to see

  • come to me, you greusome son'of'a bitch

  • Interesting.

What the point is I don't know, but interesting I guess anyway.

But considering both movies are about the exact same thing with the exact same characters, it shouldn't be a HUGE surprise.

But, that's where the similarities end I'm afraid, as The Dark Knight is, and I did the math, exactly

    10000000000000000000000000000 times better.

  • i was watching Batman today and i realized how similar it and the dark knight were. i was hoping someone on youtube made a comparison video, and this one was great. good job

  • KEATON OWNS! lol

  • Very interesting. Thanks for doing this montage.

  • man i dont know what movie i must to see ? up or down!? and the 2 movies is so great!

  • nice video

  • Thanks for watching!

  • wow!

  • Where the hell is my comment...?!"youtube"...the online bermuda triangle for comments... -_-"

  • What did you say in you're comment?

  • I was just saying that i didn't like DK and that the first one was way,way better.Offcourse with more words etc but i'm not gonna type it again. :P

Youtube really needs to fix the comments.

  • Batman 1989 will always be the best for me, just because of Jack's quotes.... They were/are epic, but overall I liked the atmosphere of TDK more. Thanks for making this vid!! It was a pleasure to watch.

  • I agree. :)

  • It's great to watch these trailers because maybe in some strange way Nolan might have been trying to recreate Batman 1989. Just Maybe.

  • Bale OWNS!!!

  • Dark Knight is the better movie, though Batman ain't bad either. From the 89 movie I did liked the city architecture/style and the Batmobil compared to The Dark Knight.

  • tims wrk is SO much better than nolans. nolan didnt stick to the batman legacy. he made it diffrnt, but diffrnt isnt better. jack napiel never had scars, the batmobil is huge, wheres the batcave? bruce never had to do a voice when he was batman, i could go on but itl jus make me mad. all the batman fans that ive talkd 2 have said the same

  • To GemStealth. Bruce did a voice in Burtons movies, and Jack Napier wasn't the guy who killed The Waynes in the comics. That's changing it for the worse! And if you watch Batman Begins you'll know where the cave is. Burton is a prick who knows fuck all about comics! Have a good one.

  • 1.If you even watched Batman Begins (Nolan's first Batman film) you'd see that he does have a Bat lair 2. Nolan was going for a more realistic and psychotic Joker 3. Have you ever watched Spiderman, and when Peter is talking to (can't think of her name at this moment) is in his Spidey suit?.. He talks in his normal gay ass voice. And it's like "OMFG. YOU DON'T REALIZE THAT'S YOU'RE CLOSEST FRIEND?! IDIOT!" Batman's voice was changed so people wouldn't recognize it for Bruce Wayne... Dumb ass...

  • Mad? What drives me mad is Joker killing Batman's parents... And i'm a batman fan...

  • woah theyre like the same

  • michael is a better batman

  • Nice job ;)

  • Batman THE DARK KNIGHT MUSIC VIDEO Original Soundtrack in MY CHANNEL Premiere

    COMMENT AND RATED!

  • I loved what you did. I'm a software nut so I was wondering what software you used to do your video. if you don't mind revealing that, I'd love to hear.

  • Sony Vegas 7.0.

  • Thanks, :?( I'm still on movie maker lol

  • wanting new friends

    funny video lets chat xR

  • You did a very good job at editing! I love it! You should do it with other remakes. Not that The Dark Knight is a remake. (must cover my own ass before I "accidently" insult someone) But I liked it alot!

  • Maybe it's just my observation, but looking back on Burton's version, it seems somehow more innocent in a way, even though he revealed a fresh insight into the Dark Knight/Joker struggle, Nolan's version just seems to be more from a post 9/11 world and maybe it's just that everything appears much darker and violent as a result.

I recall laughable moments from Burton's version. There are none in Nolan's.

This is just an observation and not a critique.

I regard both versions as classics.

  • well u gotta admit the magic trick scene from nolan's was quite humorous haha

  • Brilliant

  • Yo, Nice Job, can u try to use the trailer spoof and the real trailer, to do the same thing?

    That Would Be AWESOME

  • very job job man

  • that was very cool! Nicholson was a GREAT joker but Ledger was better. Althoug htere were 2 WAY different moods to the two movies and both Jokers were amazing! Nicholson brought the humor of the joker for the comics while ledger brought the hoplessness feeling the old joker had always brought to Batman. Good job to both Jokers!

  • PLease, please PLEASE do a split screen trailer of the hulk movies PLEASE!

  • Hmm.

That DVD is coming out pretty soon, isn't it?

I don't recall any of the Hulk moments popping out as similar like they did here, but I could prolly figure something out. I've got a lot on my plate right now though, so no promises.

  • This wasnt the original trailer... lol someone made it so they would look the exact same... because apparently they didn't like the new one

but no the 1989 trailer in this video was remade from the movie.

  • its quite surprising to see how similar both films actually are.

  • The Dark Knight is the best batman movie ever, it has better acting, better story, better setting, and an overall better movie than Batman 89.

  • no dumbass just because heath ledger did a good job doesnt mean the entire cast is great. batman begins sucked. it really had the worst villians ever

  • True, But GIve Props to batman 89, without that, maybe there would be no Dark Knight

  • Okay, I'm joining the party a litle late, but I have to say Vaportrail, that is AWESOME! Now I want someone to take TDK trailer and add the soundbites and music from BTM. I would do it myself only I am completely useless!!!!

  • Both movies are kick ass

  • Here Here!

    A true fan!

  • your not agreeing that batman begins sucked are you?

  • both great XD

  • Well, to quote Bullseye from "Daredevil", the old Batman movie was good, really good, but TDK - it's magic :)

  • I think the new Batman concept with Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman has made the Batman movies too serious, too brutal, too dark, very ugly with no charm whatsoever, very little humour, and no touch of the fairy tale like stereotypical, theatrical, mystical ambience of escapism that so well define the old Batman movies of the 1980s and 1990s. Batman is not supposed to be real - just like James Bond. Making it too real will remove the essence of the Batman movies. I prefer Michael Keaton.

  • Style difference is not a contest.

  • wow i like the old trailer :D

  • VaportrailFilms<3

    2008 vs. 1989

I found this same video on Vimeo a month ago. I like how you edit this. You make the comparison a better view.

  • Batman 1989 is better...

    Really. I'm NOT Joking.

  • I agree!!!!

  • Yea dude im with you. Batman 1989 is a good classic

  • This is a clever video. When you put them side by side, my mind was made up on which is the best of the two movies. Yep,The Dark Knight. The best Batman Bale The best Joker Ledger Even Michael Caine's Alfred is better. I seen the Dark Knight 5 times and it has only been out since July (posted Sept 08). I think I have seen Batman maybe 5 times and it has been out since 1989.

  • Whenever you get to the end of "The Dark Knight" trailer it's like: Ping!. Silence. It's SO atmospheric.

  • yeah were bats is flyin straight at him is great. when saw trailer for dark knight and they should the hit me! and bats crashin it was the sense of deja vu

  • My fav. is TDK too :')
