  • That announcer's voice was doing the same voice over's for knbc 4 in l.a from hmmm 94 till 1999 "coverage you can count on"

  • Wow that news set was great that it is now it's like the ancor's are all bunched to close together today

  • I like all this better than all the "blings" and "whooshes" they use as graphics now.

  • This was the same week that things changed forever on WHBQ-TV 13, right?

  • Is Action News 5 still the number 1 newscast in Memphis?

  • Thanks to NewsRetiree for posting these clips. Today's newscasts can learn from the past. I love how the breaking news of the search for the body was handled... Clean, straight-forward, no loud animations or over-the-top hysterics. Plus, Kim Hendrew, in my opinion, was a fantastic anchor.

  • i miss this open

  • This is a great theme for channel 5, and yes, the five is very well-known and unique. WMC has almost always had great graphics.

  • This is a great open for 1995. WMC is top notch. And to the posts below: I love their logo. I'm glad that they've kept it all these years, it looks great and the '5' is very unique.

  • Well, at the time, WREG had an AWESOME CGI open. Still, I concur, WMC IS Memphis top notch. I still don't get how Memphis is still such poor a city that it is.

  • And to one thing: they still used that logo that resembles WSB's logo since 1993.

  • No. Since 1995.

  • WTVF in Nashville has had their logo since 1989.

  • Okay, you are right on this one.

  • Remember the logo TV 5 used when the station dropped the riverboat for a few years? The graphics WMC used (early Ellis Comm. era) resembled the graphics WSB used before Channel 2 went red, white, blue and gold.

  • Yep. Bert Ellis wanted to Plagiarize WSB outright, until he was convinted to do origional grphics by EQ Vance (Former WSB art director)

  • Who would have ever thought that Joe and Richard would become rivals. Rich at WREG, and Joe still at WMC after all these years.
