  • Time was you could walk into a little arcade and find all these machines. Miss those days!!! Fair play to you for having a little collection tho!

  • A kid's dream!

  • Brilliant mate.I have a 1000 in 1 games arcade arriving this week. The volume is very low on it though, how could i alter it?Plus it takes 3-4 minutes to power up.Is this a major problem and how much to put right?

    Thanks.

  • this fucken sucks!!!

    i miss arcades!!!

    and fuck nickle nickle!!!

  • Out Run, Hard Drivin, Virtual Racing, really nice collection. Some serious dosh. It's lacking Operation Wolf, lol.

  • Great collection ...

  • Where did you get the empty cabinet for the MAME machine please bud?

  • I'm envious. Fantastic and wonderful collection you have there!

The M.A.M.E. would definately be my favourite as well.

    Cheers

  • The outrun screen flicker is just an artifact of the video capture, right?

  • yo guys has anyone got a popeye or mario or donkey kong machine if so ill buy it but i only need the shell eg wooden shell and thats it

  • I'll buy the PAC man machine of u for 200 £

  • Holy sh*t your British, I didn't see that coming. Anyway awesome personal arcade.

  • i had to move my furniture for my 2 ddr machiines who needs a bed any way just sleep and fuck on the floor

  • Great home arcade dude.I especially like your VR twin seater, it brought back some golden memories of back in the day.

  • It's great to have a own arcade hall in the house. It's a dream from me.

My faworite games in my own Arcade Hall of the future are:

Galaga, Phönix, Scud Race, Daytona USA 2

Pole Position, Enduro Racer, Pooyan, Outrunners and Power Drift. A Nice collection i think. But in the Moment thats all Future-Music Nice Video thanks for upload and Greetings from a Classic-Videogamecollector.

  • so much awesome in one room!

  • Soooo how u steal all theese ? ŁöŁ

  • Awesome setup man. That Virtual Racing arcade is great game, and very cool machine.

  • Thanks, but due to a recent house move I have sold the VR. It's a shame but it was just too big for my new home.

  • Nice Arcade. Keep it up.

  • Hey any chance i can come round haha. On a serious note these machines are very attractive and would make any living room a pleasure to be stuck in.

  • Very cool mini arcade mate! Iike it a lot! I think I need one like it one day! Lol.

  • if its got the correct PCB with the right cab and its lookes after youl be on the antiques roadshow 2050. by then therel be electronics experts. fuck the pottery

  • yeah!!!!! keep it goin. keep them in good condition. these are the antiques of today. in the next 50 years these origanls will be priceless

  • Dreams room !!!

  • hard drivn awesome

  • Cool stuff!

I really like the mame arcade.

  • Did you make them?

  • wow man , that is a nice set up you have

  • wont go any wider. I was told that you can put a plastic screwdriver thing in a coil of wire thats on the shassy. When you turn this the screen changes but nothing happens when i do this. Also the game seems to be slightly bigger on one side of the screen than the other. Any ideas? I might post a video of it to you if you need it.

    Kind Regards Ben

  • sorry, nothing happens when i turn the screwdriver thing

  • Hi, no amounts of turning will improve the picture because it needs re-capping. The capacitors don't hold the power due to age & need replacing. It can be done WITH EXTREME CAUTION due to very high voltages. It may be an idea to get a prof TV repair man in to look at it. He should take the screen board away and replace the parts. It may cost around £50+ for parts and labour.

Due to the new LCD screens a TV repair man may not be easy to find anymore who still deals with tubed screens. Alan.

  • Thanks for the help this is exactly what someone els just said about 10 mins ago. I apreciate it

Excellent arcade collection by the way:)

    Ben

  • Hi, please could you help me with a very long question...

(the comment is in 2 parts)

I have an original space invaders 1978 taito machine, the other model to your one. And the screen is squished horizontally. I know you can turn the pots inside to adjust the screen size, contrast etc. I have turned the pot that adjusts the horizontal line thingy, to make it wider and smaller. But the pot is as far over as it goes, and

  • Great arcade man! I really liked the Space Invaders and I asbsolutely love the Hard Drivin' cabinet. I don't remember seeing the upright cabinet before. If I recall correctly, I remember playing the smaller one where you sat more inside it.

Very cool custom made MAME machine!

  • Thank you, I would have liked the the sitdown Hard Drivin model you mentioned but I just don't have the space. maybe one day.

    Regards, Alan.

  • nice walk through and awesome room! Do you have a new set up at your new house now? Are you going to post another walk through?

  • Thanks, I've got to sort my garden out first which I'm doing this month (March '09) then I can clear the garage and get them up and running again. Once this is done I will take a new video and post an update. Regards, Alan.

  • This is way beyond fantastic.

I'd love to have an arcade room but my house is quite tiny for it to exist x_x

    I have two questions.

a - how did you got to install the MAME on the cabinet? and how do you change games on it?

b - Can I go play sometime? I would so happily go put all my quarters on these xD

  • Hi, thanks for the comments. In answer to your questions....

a - There is PC motherboard installed inside the cabinet and all the parts from a normal PC fit inside just nice. They are connected to a normal TV via SCART which gives a near perfect arcade picture. Most people use a PC monitor which crap!

Holding down the player 1 & 2 buttons will take you to a menu where you can use the joystick to select a new game.

b - The games are in storage at the moment :-( due to me moving house.

  • Oh, I get it. Great idea, and thanks for replying!

  • Alan- get a GORF for heaven's sakes!!!

  • probably also virgin

  • could you put earthbound zero on one of those mame things?it was for the nintendo entertainment system.

  • Hi, unless the game was orignally produced on an arcade board then no it won't run on MAME. But saying that you can run any emulator on a PC using any roms so in answer to your question yes you can play that game on an arcade machine using a NES emulator.

    Regards, Alan.

  • Ok thanks =)

  • Can I visit you?

  • Could have done but I have moved and all the games are being stored at the moment until I get time and space to get them up and running again.

  • No, Thank you!

  • oh ok!

  • hey man thats a really cool collection u have there. Gotta love the classics but have u ever considered moder games like Time Crisis 4?

  • I play the odd new game like House Of The Dead but because they are still taking money in the arcades Operators don't want to part with them at the moment, and it they do they are too dear. Regards, Alan.

  • Respect to that. Thanks for the detailed little film!

    5 stars...

  • beutifull work.i'd love to own one but dont have the space. respect to you

  • Hey alan how much did your machines cost cause I'm turning my room into a arcade room but I need to know how much would one cost.

  • Hi, it depends were you buy them. Getting them direct from operators is a good thing, best time is after the season ends which is about October onwards. The problem here is that operators have less and less of the classic machines left so they are hard to find. If you are lucky it depends on what you buy but you can get one for around £100.

The other place is eBay but again it's getting harder to find good classics, prices depend on condition but you can pick up an empty jamma cabinet for £50+.

  • I remember when my father ran an arcade in Maidstone, he had the exact Race Drivin machine as you have there, when it was being shut down and it's assets sold off I was promised the Race Drivin machine, 4 weeks of excitement to find out on the final day it got bought and took away, oh well. Nice collection you have there though, treasure the Race Drivin they are extremely rare now!

  • fantastic collection, your a lucky lucky man. Keep up the good work.

  • Thank you.

  • great arcade there..did you see the gadget show on the 23\6\08 ? they had a great pinball machine...i am making a mame machine my self ..i have also finished a fruit machine mame machine complete with original fruit machine buttons..looks\works great..is this a first ?..lol

  • Hi, no I didn't see the Gadget show, but will look out for the re-run, what channel was it on?

The mame fruit machine sounds really interesting, do you have any photos or videos I can see of it up and running?

    Regards, Alan.

  • Great little arcade you have there and the Mame cab looks really professional. It's good to see that there is another person who actually likes the hard/race driving series, i thought i was the only one :) Do you plan/ or would you like to add some other games to your collection?

  • nice collection i always wanted to have my own arcade as a kid but times sure changed quick now the roms of all those games could fit on my cell phone

  • Thanks for your comments, when building my Mame cabs I like to take my time to get the just right.

I would like to get more machines but lack space at the moment.

I have a spare board for my Hard Drivin which I bought soon after I got the cab, it's there incase the one I'm using breaks down.

    Regards, Alan.

  • your lucky to have the money to do that. Its such a shame that in UK and USA arcades are dead in japan they are still alive. But the glory days of gaming have come and gone. I hope arcades return. Good job on this vid your one lucky bugger and enjoy it

  • Thank you. We still have arcade in the UK but they are full of gambling machines, crane machines and stuff like that. We will never see arcade like they were in the 1980's, only memories remain. Regards, Alan.

  • Lovely, I wish I had the space (and money) to do the same! Cool.

  • Hey! The music is Buckner & Garcia's Pac-man Fever. This music is linked only with Pac-man.

  • I want to Rob You, Jammy sod.

I must say well done, Perhaps a few changes to the decor though ie: neons, Posters etc.

What next a jukebox, Token change machine or maybe a coke machine lol.

The only machine I can think of that's missing is Chase HQ, oh and pole position.

Arcades, Ahh sweet sweet memories, gone now though, a real shame.

I'd love to button bash at Yours.

Seriously, Well done 4 stars. :)

  • great collection. That MAME is really well done and i wouldn't feel the slightest bit un-natural playing on a setup that good. On the I Robot: Yes, rare game..hard to come by, and excellent early 80s Atari game that never was ported to a home system..at least not that i know of. 1000 games? wow..that sounds like a start for me! I played that many between 1979 and 1984 alone. Heh, you even got the Pac Man Fever song..i have that album on vinyl..pure nostalgia..You could use a Sega Turbo btw..

  • Sweet collection.

All you need now is Sega Rally

  • nice game room! great machines!! :)

  • i so cant wait to build a basement like this.

  • i was woundering where to get arcade machines new and cheap rather than buying off ebay and not knowing if it worked

  • Where do you get these??

  • Hi, Most were from eBay, the Outrun was bought direct from an operator in Norfolk.

  • i am planning to buy an original outrub machine and would like to know how much you bought it for

  • I paid £250 direct from an Operator about 3 years ago. It was fully working and in good condition. The going rate, I think, is around £300-£400 maybe more for a really good condition upright model. Sit downs are more again depending on condition.

  • My bad, I see you already have mame :p

  • Nice collection. You should use MAME to play roms of these so to save on ware and tear.

  • You have a very nice collection!

I especially like your Virtua Racing. You also did a great job with the Space Invaders.

    Good game!

  • Cheers, I know I keep saying this but I will get round to making a new video with my latest machines and also go into further detail about some of them too.

  • how much did you pay for the V.R. machine (Virtua Racing)

  • It was about £350 nearly 4 years ago. One screen needed work which was done and now it works perfectly.

  • ur basement (or wherever) r ftw

  • I used to have two working Space Invaders, one was part 1 and the other was deluxe...Very nice collection:)

  • thank you.

  • Hi Alan

What a great collection you have there i used to work for atari in tipperary ireland building those cabs i'm thinking about buying the global arcade machine for my games room i built a mame cab awhile back and used the xarcade dual control unit any advice an buying a pinball table Cheer's for shareing your great collection with u. Gary b Ireland

  • Hi Gary, thanks for the comments. I envy you for working at Atari building arcade cabinets, you were very lucky.

Pinall machines have alot of working parts, they look complicated at first look but deep down they are not that difficult to work with. You'll have to pay around £600-£1000 for a decent one but they are worth it. I now have 2 tables fully working, Star Trek & Star Wars, both from DataEast around 1991/3.

  • u bought the control panel for ur mame? where? pretty nice room...i wanna make a mame

  • I didn't buy it I made it from a bit of MDF and some careful measurements to get the holes in the perfect place. It's nothing special but it's how I wanted it.

  • you have a very impressive collection. Kudos! Thanks for sharing!

  • Thank you, it's changed a bit now so will update soon.

  • How much did you pay for your Virtua Racing machine dude?

I sooo want a Daytona machine myself, but it's just the lack of space rather than the cost, which seems to be the bain of a lot of arcade collectors.

Family's pissed off enough i've got a full scale Enduro Racer machine in the living room ^_^

  • I think I paid about £350 over 3 years ago. I had the left hand screen serviced because of a screen problem which was only another £80 or so.

It is a big beast and VERY heavy, but worth it as it's a great racer which is 15 years old now.

  • Oh it's very nice.

Does it split in half to go through doors Atc as well? Most British doorways wern't exactly designed to accomodate arcade machines going through them.

  • HOw did you get that virtua racer in through your door.

  • The seating unit un-bolts from the main part which makes it easier to transport. But it did take 3 people to lift it into my shed!!

  • Hey! Alan Nice machines you got, Im 17 years old i own 2 arcade machines, and now over 700 games for over 40 systems.

    :]

    hope to post vid soon

  • Thank you for sharing your video. I have a gameroom too but nothing like yours. I only have a pool table, and one 1 arcade machine (mulit game machine). I would like to have more machines but lack of room because of the pool table so I have lots of stuff on the walls (neon lights, traffic light, TV, etc.)

  • I would like a pool table but much the same as you I lack space. I have sold several machines in the past and wished I hadn't, it's all about space at the end of the day. Do you have a video or photos of your arcade?

  • Unfortunately I don't. Our video and digtal cameras were stolen during our vacation this past summer. New ones are comming for Christmas so when we do, I'll take some. Again, mine is nothing like yours. Just a pool table, one arcade machine, and lots of stuff on the walls (neon lights, traffic lights, etc.)

  • Its Every Kids dream to have there own arcade

u are so lucky to have one

and you have the best place to have a party at

and i have Hard Drivin and Race Drivin on PS2

they are really awsome games lol

P.S how did u get those arcade machines

    chao

  • Thanks, Most were brought from ebay but some were sourced from arcades direct. The PS2 versions are very good but nothing beats playing the real thing.

  • This is a reat collection. keep it up, and keep us updated if you add something new.

  • I have made some changes and will be doing another video very soon. Will keep you posted.

  • That's amazing I'm so envious. My fav game has a child was this 3D wire frame type StarWars game. Me having aspergers this would be my dream room. :D

  • Excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks, just to let you know that I now have an excellent condition Data East Star Wars pinball table. It's next to my Star Trek pinball and looks superb. Will do another video soon.

  • pretty cool man, now invite your buddys over and have tourneys :D

  • thats one nice collection you have there alan, i have a couple of cabinets myself.. hoping to get a few more when i get my garage sorted out, but yeah awesome stuff mate

  • Many thanks, Do you have a video of your collection for us all to see. I'm very interested to see other peoples collection no matter how big or small.

  • currently 2 of my cabinets are at my friends place in storage, the other 2 i have are in my shed waiting for the garage to be ready.. once the garage is sorted out and i have my other 2 machines back from my friends house i'll post a video for sure =]

  • Excellent, I'd be grateful if you could let me know when you get it all up and running and have the time to take some video. Cheers, Alan.

  • yeah definetly no worries, i'll message you via youtube when it's all sorted =]

  • Just saw your letter on Retro Gamer magazine. I am in Miami FL USA. Isn't it a small world?

Great collection by the way, lucky you.

    Patrick

  • Thanks, the only thing I lack is space. I can only fit about 10 machines in my games room so when I see a new machine I want I have to make a sacrifice.

  • Awesome...lol too bad its not mine since my name is also Alan. Unfortunately arcade games don't seem to appeal so much in the US anymore, but Europe and Japan are still nuts for them!

  • rightknow i have linux on my ps3 and gunna put mame and all that on it

  • im thinking of buying my first arcade machine i was thinking vcop or house of the dead

  • Generally they are biggish machines and would weight around 150kg plus, hope you have the space and muscles. ;-)

  • Hey nice one, great vid, soooo jealous!! HEHE

saw the link in Retro gamer, love your setup thats amazing.

    Thankx for sharing..

    All the best

    Max and Jackie

    xx

  • Thanks, I'm hoping the readers of Retro Gamer will film their own collects of whatever retro related items they have and post it on YouTube for all to enjoy.

  • Cool alan, where are you from ?

  • Rainham in Essex, UK.

  • Hi, i found your video from the letter you wrote to retro gamer, great idea you had there, lets hope more people make videos like yours.

Fantastic video by the way, thanks for showing us around, can i come play on your virtua racing & Outrun?!? :D

  • Thanks for the reply, I just thought it would be a good idea for people to video their games collections and display it here for all to enjoy, it can be anything retro game related. I'm going to do another one soon focusing on my electronic game collection, watch this space.

  • Excellent video, thanks for making it. There never were any arcades around here, the only time I got to play in arcades was on day breaks at Blackpool and on holiday in Spain and I loved it, I remember playing on Sonic, TMNT, Streetfighter, Pang, and more. It was very nice when a few years back the hotel I stayed at in Benidorm had a working Snow Bros. machine, I was very surprised and this game is one of my favourites also. Its my dream I may own a couple of these machines in the future.

  • Buying machines is not a major problem, check eBay, speak to arcade owners as they have old machines in storage no longer taking money etc. The only problem you'll find is space! I had a brick shed built in my garden to house such machines but it's limited to about 10 machines, or a couple more if I take my desks out.

  • this is a perfect example of how to do a video, well presented and informative. I was 9 years old when outrun came out (1986) and it brings tears to my eyes to see that cabinet again. The holidays in southend and brighton, playing outrun/space harrier, amazing! do you recall the 'penny pusher' machine with the 10p's falling down

  • I remember when arcades where wall to wall of video games, unlike they are today full of fruit machines!!!

It's very rare to find more than couple of classic machines together in one place. The last one I remember was in Hunstanton, Norfolk. But I have heard they have turned it into a casino now.

  • playstation killed the arcade my friend, although having said that im always tempted when i see the odd arcade machine in shopping malls, or motorway services to have a go even though its like 1.50 a go!

  • What exactly are those first two machines (one being Pac-Man Plus)? Ones that dispense prizes or something?

Other than that, pretty cool, I'd especially like to see that Star Trek machine in more (playing) detail, I missed that one, sadly :(

  • Hi, the first 2 machines are called Fruit Machines in the UK. They are sort of like slot machines that you get in Vegas but with whats called a Feature board at the top. This comes to life when you get 3 pacmen in a line or a certain value on the Duty Free game.

Thanks for the comments, I will be doing another video going into greater detail on some machines. Also I want to do another focusing on my electronic game collection.

  • Thanks for the detailed view! I have a video of my collection posted, but it is more like "Alan's Home Arcade Games Room" being more of a brief overview than you've done here.

  • Nice arcade dude! I had to give my MAME cab away :-(

  • Cheers for the comment. Shame about your Mame machine, that will be the last one I get rid off I think from my collection.

  • Maybe someday I will have room enough for another one.

  • If I could only have one arcade machine...I would like SEGA's After burner 2 sit down cabnet...Simply awesome

  • nice to see Hard Drivin there - I have the deluxe cab myself :P

  • I would love to have the full sized machine but I lack space. I did have the chance of getting one once but another disadvantage is the weight!!! My machine is a good 2nd best. Can you post any detailed video of your machine, would like to see that in action.

  • Interesting. Too bad you don't have my favorite game Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The MAME machines are always neat to see. Billionaire?

  • TMNT is emulated on my MAME machine, when I do another video I'll try and ensure this game is running.

  • very inspiring.

  • very nice collection and detail.! thanks for not having a shaky camera and using a microphone!!!! please post more.

  • I adlibed this video so I may make another one but script it first and go into better detail per machine. Thanks for you comments.

  • I'm still waiting.... do another video!
