I own a home and I want to build one with my son as a home-school project/fun. Make it a cold storage room and other half for food storage after our fall harvest( preserved and canned)
this video really made me smile. bless! i would really really want to get into learning about how to be more eco friendly because to be honest, I've not been and I want to give back!
I have worked construction for 20 years and am ready to get back to the basics. Unfortunately here in the US it is very difficult to get around building codes. We have lost our way.
I do happen to belong to the middle class & your point is very applicable in my country where there is an enormous gap between rich & poor. Land & property ownership needs to be addressed urgently. I hope that you will be able to overcome the obstacles that stand in your path. Affluence needs to be made history just as poverty does. However, I do believe my little cottage is at least less oppulent than mansions with marble trimmings & manicured lawns which you also find in my country :)
yes i agree. i am hoping that oneday each person will beable to have a small house and a garden plot free of charge. what a wonderful way to regreen the earth and give food to everyone!
my family has romani roots and it would be great if the earth belonged to everyone. as it does actually. and is our birth right to live freely upon her.
yes, it does belong to everyone & the current system grossly unjust as most of the land for sale in the world today was claimed by force at some point in history. i am aware of the roma people and their continuing struggle
Really inspiring video, thanks for sharing. I'd love to create a house like this but there always seems to be planning restrictions, especially within Europe. Is there a website out there that lists places where it's possible to build adobe or off-grid?
Thanks for your comment. Yes, planning restrictions often thwart even the most well conceived of natural building plans. I am not sure of any website that collates any of this information, but there must be resources out there as the field is developing at a healthy pace. Off-grid shouldn't really be a problem as far as planning permissions are concerned. It's when you want to use natural building materials that you may run into obstacles.
This is so amazing! Your smart to get off the grid cause your not under the pressures of paying the surmounting costs for everything. All ya need now is a trip out of the counry for an air car and you'll never need gas to drive again lol TOTAL FREEDOM from mortage, enegery in both transportation and home
I'm ENVIOUS of those who do this now, and no longer envious of those with huge homes lol I wouldnt want to clean them or pay for such waste again
very nice. i live offgrid. i made that move 11 yrs ago. i wish i had went with adobe as it turns out there is tons of clay-earth all around me. i may build a small guest house in the future, all out of 'dirt'
It's a shame that you're not allowed by law in most states of the USA to build alternative houses such as this I live in Michigan and wanted to build a bale house as weekend getaway place on MY own property but was denied a permit
Will do. Thank you for the information. I was told i could 'get around' the permit denial.Deer hunters have i guess used old semi trailers as shelter in parts of the lower part of Michigan. Was told two 50' trailers could be put together and converted to living space. And then cover the outside with bales and stucco. Not the same but s start
love the house , love this video, love the music. Who is it? Would love to have an adobe or cob house for me and my kids. You did an awesome job on the house and this wonderful little video
very beauty

Great video! I have some questions. What is the dimension of the adobe? Did you also used sand? How long have the adobes to dry? Thanks!

kingofpuntland 1 year ago

This is exactly how they built the missions in California, except for the thatched roof. (The missions have fired tiles.) Beautiful job.

does the lime protect it from rain?
bluemoondiadochi 2 years ago
yes, lime (1 part lime to 3 parts sand) is the more natural alternative to cement plaster. also, cement plaster would not stick on the earth walls

Build these for next to nothing or work 30 years to pay the debt of a western house. Such a tough call!
