RahXephon and Evangelion have a lot of surface similarities(in the first few episodes you *will* think of Haruka as a Misato clone), but in the end they are very different series. Evangelion was spur-of-the-moment, and if you think about it it stops making sense, but RahXephon was very clearly planned out--if you think about it it makes *more* sense.

Also, "Hemisphere" is better than "Cruel Angel's Thesis". You can't beat Maaya Sakamoto.

This is one confusing trippy ass anime, especially if you have no idea about aztec culture/religion.

I felt like the production team rushed this, perhaps due to budget or something... but there was way too many unexplained things.

The best thing about rahxephon isn't the whole "GOD creates new world" shit, but the romance bit of it. In that aspect, it was far superior to NGE and a lot of romance animes.

Being separated for 15 years while the other person ages faster is a interesting concept

this anime to be honest is similar to EVA but the essence is completely different. This is more of a romance story.

While it was probably more than 10 years ago I saw it, from what I can remember eva was a bit more heavy on the psychological part than rahxephon, which is a bit more straightforward and easier to comprehend.

Though considering I was probably about 14-15 when I saw it, my view of it may not count as much, I'd probably appreciate it more now.

So in other words, IMO Rahxephon = simple(not a bad thing really), Evangelion = complicated(also not a bad thing, except for the youngsters maybe).

Characters are almost the same Ayato= Shinji. Storyline is near the same, espeacially the ending with the pilot becoming God. The D-1s powers are similar and sometimes the same as the Angels. Not saying I do not like Rahxephon but it took everything from Eva.

Rahxephon for those who have not had the joy of watching it is sort of like evangelion in its characters complexities but manages to culminate the story beautifully without a remaining feeling of your brain having gotter raped by a giant robot ( evangelion im looking at you)

As an overall concept, it is similar to Eva, yes. But its story and characteriation is far better, IMO. Eva tried to cram too much into its final episodes, Rah does not have this same issue.
