It always cracks me up when guitar slingers post about Jeff's playing limitations. There is no one on the planet that gets the sounds out of an ax without 9000 effects that Jeff gets. He was doing things long before other players were, that get all the credit. I.E. EVH, Satch, Vai

if jeff can play this good with finger picking, i wonder what he is like with a pick!

@biggydoggsjj Jeff doesn't ever use a pick, which it frees his right hand up to control his tremolo bar and volume knob more easily. He can vary his tone more easily too without a pick.

@ChainsawVsGod You mean speedwise? It just means he has to use more hammer ons and pull offs instead of getting the hard pick sound, really.

He also can't really do pinch harmonics. Palm mutes sounds significantly weaker. He can't do any fast picking either obviously. But I guess he doesn't really need that stuff for the type of music he plays.

@ChainsawVsGod That's true. I suppose any playing style has advantages and hindrances.

@ChainsawVsGod He can actually get good pinch harmmonics (pick with the middle finger and take the harmonic with the index) and does good palm muting- check stratus from the ronnie scott session. He can pick pretty quick when he wants to, he just takes his index off the whammy and uses that too. Fingers are never going to sound like a pick, but they're nowhere near as limiting as most players assume at first, it just takes some time to figure out.

@ChainsawVsGod When I saw him he did some of the quickest playing i've ever seen however he doesn't do it often as it is not needed often
