  • I always remenber that scene!!! Always!!!

  • I rocketed thru the eighties without a thought of DISCO.

Vibrating feet now punch out the themes of yesteryear.

Play me out for I am ready for my

    Disco DREAMS

  • @johnopone Nu Disco has emerged from the label Hed Kandi. You should check it out.

  • @johnopone There wàs disco in the eighties. Check out "let's groove" or whatever by Earth Wind and Fire.

  • disco came this decade (2000s) but maybe it is starting to die out again. I just dont hear a lot of great new stuff compared to 2004-2007. Disco = daft punk, hot chip, mylo, junior boys and lots of the indie/electro you hear. if you didnt go out dancing you missed it.

  • @malitano Well, disco today is completely different from late 70s disco. 70s disco was danced by yuppies, leftist, glam, celebrities and middle-class people (like the characters in this movie, btw) while today disco is for the masses. In the 70s disco was trendy and it was a way to get freedom and it a way to get out of social rules. It was a music revolution in a certain way. Today disco is for masses. Kids and teens go to disco to dance. But there's nothing revolutionary or snobbish anymore.

  • Disco issss back , its a perfect time for this movie to come out on criterion. Cities are full of disco mixes and disco nights now. All these hip young 20 somethings are into it.

  • he is right, Disco is too great to be gone forever, tomorrow i'll go to the disco (and yes, here we still call them disco) to dance 70's 80's and 90's dance music.

  • Disco did come back in the late 90s

  • Disco is still mainstream. they just call it Nu-disco!

  • Respect for Larry Levan. That's all I got to say.

  • larry is king, and there was a lot of great disco music, essentially a continuation of soul music, but there was a lot of shit too...

  • I loved this movie. To bad there were no people of color in it. Except Jennifer Beals.

  • what the hell is wrong with you? Why does a film need a person of color in it? why?

  • Because, if anything, Disco was both Black and Gay. And this movie has neither of the two as a lead character.

  • Despite the title, it's not really a movie about disco. It's about the social scene of preppy WASPs who happened to be in that environment at that time and place, as are Whit Stillman's other films. Sometimes directors choose to tell a story about what they know. Go sue someone if you're that mad about it.

  • I don't think that's accurate at all. Disco definitely had major black and gay players. But to say that if it was any two things, it is those? It was far too broad to confine to "black" or "white" or "gay" or "straight". I think we agree that gays and blacks had huge roles in disco, but so did heteros and whites and awkward pants and drugs.

  • Awkward pants FTW.

  • There's no such thing as affirmative action in Hollywood. The best actor for the part, the best audition, gets it. With the possible exception if someone has a big "name" they may put them in. I'm sure if someone who was black, yellow or purple had nailed their audition, they would have been cast instead. New York is a cosmopolitan city. Anyone would have fit in.

  • Your naivenessis almost endearing. However your perception of the "one who nails the part" is far from the minds of those who do these castings. Trust me I know. However if there were more individuals in hollywood who thought the way you do then I'm sure things would be that much more fair. Thanks for your input.

  • Gee, I never picked up on that. Of course I'm a preppy white guy, so I was probably too busy enjoying a film about My People in a disco.

    Say...isn't white a color?

  • It is a music type for thouse who are dissolutioned with the current 'mainstreem' (mostly) confidence lacking, filthy junk that calls women bitches and stuff shit.

God bless, YES that's right God Bless Disco.

  • Could Kate Beckinsale be any more beautiful? My heart goes pitter-patter-pitter-patter.

  • Yeah, Kate is beautiful. Who would have thought that she would make 3 action films a few years after this film.

  • "Going like *this*!" Love that line.

I love Stillman's dialogue, but it's delivered too coldly and shot too predictably. I almost feel like he should be writing novels/essays instead.

  • Oh, Matt Keeslar.

    He is terrific.

  • I dearly love this scene. He is right. Disco never died. It still lives on in the hearts of those who love it.

I remember I was in a club several year ago and they had a Disco room down in the basement. At the time I thought it was lame and I sneered at it, but now I wish I could go back there and just dance my brains out. I can't believe I ever thought that way. Disco Rocks!

  • I love this movie. That character was actually based one me. I love this film.

    Tyler

  • "Night club flunky is not a professional category." "...a naturally occuring salt." Love this fim. If you love films (not movies), you should love it too.

  • Great film, great music and great costumes. Please up load the entire film because they have discontinued DVD copies of the film.

  • You can buy a Region 2 DVD from Germany. Mine cost about $50. Then you can either watch it on your computer or if you want buy a region free DVD player. Well worth it.
