It's not abuse, What it is though is teaching (an aggressive breed by nature) very bad habbits. I have seen many wild dogs none of which hang off trees or "lift wieghts". I have owned many breeds and with all breeds, socializing and spending time with them is the key factor to a "good" or "bad" dog. Not saying that anything in this vid is techniclly wrong, but from the outside looking in, its almost obvious the owners are doing more then just playing with their pets.

Its not fair on the dogs at all. Owners that claim 'the dog loves it' - er, no YOU love it, not the dog. They are trained in a way that they do not know any better, just as a child born in to slavery If the dog was left to its own devices, do you really think it would LOVE to pull 3000kg along? No. This type of training simply makes the dog full of highly motivated aggressive drive - that can be vented the wrong way at times hence the horror stories.

I own an American Bulldog and just today I got a ticket for walking a PIT. Both breeds are devoted to pleesing their owner and they would die for them. To train your PIT/AMERICAN to fight is just unhuman and shamefull. In Ontario we have about 2645 of animal abuse cases every year(as reported by animale police) and only about 65 bad attacks by dogs on humans. Weight pull is a great activity to do with these dogs. Unfortunately, how it's done in this vid is more like bait pulling. In the USA, almost all pulling organizations have rules against using bait. The dogs here are trained to pull, and they work hard because they enjoy it. You can't really compare it to a humans, who seem to thrive on doing nothing. The real cruelty is to put these dogs on the couch and not let them work or play hard.

I didn't enjoy this at all. I've worked very hard to train and socialize my pitbull to be kind to all creatures. This type of activity does nothing but perpetuate the negative stigma of pitbulls as aggressive dogs. solarcat1 you must have had a razors edge pit bull those are the biggest you can get my cousin has one but I think they might have been bred with something else to get that size just too big to me. Most pit bulls are only suposed to weigh 30-70lbs. they are a more atheletic breed than a giant to me. I would get a dog no more than seventy pounds 100lbs just seems like too much to handle. But the razor edge must have been mixed with some thing else. I prefer a brindle red nosee.

My APBT also loved to jump and hang on anything taller than himself. You know what else, he loved to play tug-o-war with other dogs, cats (was funny to watch the cat who tried, never won, but tried a lot) and people. I think that the tug-o-war can be a very healthy alternative for comp. Maybe it is just me, but if (and only if) you can have two dogs pull for 2 hours and never give up, then they never attack the other dog...that is gameness, not aggression.

Most pitts dont need to be teased or encouraged in any way, they just enjoy a challenge. That does not mean they are being aggressive, just competitive. I think the dogs in this video are a poor representation the breed but they are probably not well socialized. My dogs love to play tug of war, but if one them evan yips in pain they both immediatly stop playing and look guilty. As family pets, evan tho my dogs were not raised around children they are extremely gentle and reliable with them.

As an Amstaff owner I can tell you up front that Pitty's are some of the smarter breeds I have ran across in my time. Not just smart , You can watch one over time and see him weigh every move he makes and they can calculat up the out come of something before following through with it.
