It is a good cause but I guess people don't understand why Lohan is being criticized. Lohan is a misfit in such a job, and it would take her a long time to change perceptions about her even if her cause was genuine. So until then she would act as no more than a mere distraction, pulling the spotlight away from the actual point of the documentary. It takes many years to build an image, and surely many more to change it.

But there are as many people who belong to the middle class as many as poor. India offers a VAST population of educated people who can contribute positively to the world's economy.
