By the middle of the 19th century, the theory of biogenesis had accumulated so much evidential support, due to the work of Louis Pasteur and others, that the alternative theory of spontaneous generation had been effectively disproven. The collapse of spontaneous generation, however, left a vacuum of scientific thought on the question of how life had first arisen.

  • Oh, I see. We are just to accept "there IS no evidence" because you told us to? LOL This is the whole problem with Darwinism. Yes, If we can change the dictionary to include urban slang, you'll just have to get over it. It's Darwinism.

Seriously, though. THIS IS EXCITING! You have found PROOF of life from non-life?

    ...of sentience from non-sentience?

    ,,,of inter-species evolution?

You are now eligible for every award and acknowledgment the scientific community has ever come up with!

  • @ichabod722 There is no such thing as Darwinism, same as there is no such thing as Newtonianism, Einsteinism, or Hawkingism. The theory of evolution by natural selection makes no claims about the origin of life, it just attempts to explain the variety of life.

  • @KingSkullfuck

I believe I effectively handled your initial objection in my 1st paragraph.

Perhaps you should actually read it...

    Just sayin

  • @ichabod722 Gee, I guess you must be a proponent of idiotism then. If we can change the dictionary to include urban slang, you'll have to get over it. It's idiotism.

  • @Eaglesfaninca As someone who watched, "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed", I would have to HIGHLY RECOMMEND watching it. It is very important that people have an opportunity to question the institutions and theories we have today that are controversial, especially Darwinism and the theories that address our origins, INCLUDING Intelligent Design.

  • @Eaglesfaninca

The key gist of the movie is that we, as Americans should have the right to FREEDOM OF INQUIRY, and scientists should NOT be discriminated against if evidence they find leads them to theorize outside of Darwinism.

  • @jrichard1977 Small problem with what you are saying, there IS no evidence for intelligent design, all the best cases they had were completely refuted like shooting fish in a barrel in court.

And there is no such thing as Darwinism, the last time that term would have had any meaning was back before Mendelian Genetics was incorporated into Darwin's Theory and when LaMarkian Evolution was still kicking around.

It's a relic term which no longer applies, just like "micro/macro evolution"

  • @jrichard1977 As someone who also watched Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed, I would recommend that people watch this for comedic value and the cringe effect. Ben Stein's lack of scientific knowledge is astounding, and the fact that he feels his ignorance should be given equal weight to tried, tested, peer reviewed papers on theories that have mountainous piles of scientific evidence to support them is laughable. So as a horror/comedy... 3 stars. The script was good, but Ben Steins acting...

  • As someone who watched "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed" I would have to say don't waste your money /or time.

Stein doesn't even attempt to put forth evidence for ID, he merely makes the ridiculous assumption that The theory of Evolution lead to the holocaust and Communism.

    0 out of 5 stars.

  • A sensible person would go see the movie so they could know what they are talking about, instead of spouting ignorance.

"Quite rightly" indeed me lord.... :)

  • I don't need to personally fall off a wall and break my leg to know that it hurts and it's not a good idea. I'll take someone else's word for it!

Visit expelled exposed website and find out all you need to know before you contribute to the wedge movement to erode the line between church and state in America. Whether you're a creationist or not, that's what this is about and you can't let it happen.

  • "A sensible person would go see the movie so they could know what they are talking about, instead of spouting ignorance."

A better option is to watch the YouTube vids of the associate producer of "Expelled" Mark Mathis interview with Scientific American editors. They basically de-pantsed him.

Both that and the Stein interviews plugging the film negate the need to watch it before criticizing.

When you flush a toilet, you don't need to stand there to see which way the turds go around.

  • And when you only watch and read things that "tickle your ears" you will always come away feeling comfortable and unchallenged.

  • Ear-tickling is a far cry from toilet turds. Every single interview I've seen with Stein and that laughable interview with Mathis demonstrates for me that they've trotted out every cliche and fallacy. There is no new "challenge."

If someone were interviewing you on a film you made that had something new in it, wouldn't that be the 1st thing out of your mouth as the film's selling point?

Or would you just roll the same old non-sequitor Nuremberg footage for the 100th time?

  • Touch'e

  • Then you haven't seen much on YouTube. There's another world out there on YouTube, and some of the things on this website are unimaginable.

  • Did either of you see the movie?

  • I personally do not believe Stein is this dumb. He's a wiley bird and he knows darn well the sorry state of education in general in this country (he's talked about it many times himself).

He's aware that he is taking advantage of people not knowing what science is, what it does, and what its methodologies are.

If he were gullible himself it would be easy to forgive him. But to deliberately expliot the gullible is disgusting.

  • A theory that is very convenient for your worldview.

It's the same tired "those ignorant people just don't know any better" snicker.

It's a lazy argument. And you are making his point without even knowing it.

  • "A theory that is very convenient for your worldview."

What's theoretical about it? You haven't heard Stein castigating the sorry state of education on various panel shows?

What you call the "tired" "those ignorant people who don't know any better" is only a slight paraphrase of Stein's own views.
