I saw a few of these on a College biology snorkling trip to the Bahamas. Our Prof told us to swim over and check out a sea turtle, but not to touch it or you could be fined $10,000...and if we did she would fail us on the spot. Some rough traffic rules and hefty fines in the ocean Ill tell ya.
FOR ALL SEA TURTLE LOVERS, (ages 0 to 90) comes a sweet little book you will want to read again and again: I’LL FOLLOW THE MOON. Baby green sea turtle is asleep in his nest way below the beach’s surface. Suddenly he opens one eye – and starts to stretch…crack, crack goes his egg and soon he’s free. Up he digs, then across he crawls, finding the sea by the flickery moonlight on the waves. Mama is waiting in the deep! Can he find her? Read and see!
I had a great experience with two sea turtles while snorkeling in playa del carmen. They swam right up and hung out, i didn't even try to touch them. the one was using me as a shelter while he ate his fish and kept bumping off of my life vest. BEST EVER!
I had an experience like this at Magic Sands beach, it only lasted seconds but it's one that I will cherish forever! They are truly beautiful creatures!
I think the problem is there a some dive masters out there that just don't teach respect for the sea and the life that lives in them. I've swam with hundreds if not thousands of turtles and have never touched a single one. Sometimes I feel bad for getting too close when I can see they are nervous. The 1 simple rule all visitors should keep in mind is LOOK DON'T TOUCH.
why dont people understand swim with them DONT TOUCH THEM just enjoy them, Ive swam with one for 15 to 18 minutes, amazing no once touching him as tempting as it was
so graceful! I am glad I have the ability to SEE this footage! THANKS to the photographers; good job. And thanks to my Blue Turtle Man for posting it!
If you were lucky, he would only bite you and not die of a heart attack. DO NOT touch them unless they initiate contact on their own! As you can see, I let the turtle swim to us not the other way around.
I am sorry to send this comment to you,but it has been circulating in youtube for a long time. When it was received 1 month ago by a man named Grayson, he ignores it, and dies when his house collapses on him.2 weeks ago, someone named Harvey receives it,but he ignores this comment and was killed by a bullet. 10 days ago, a woman named Fifi reads it,and she dies in a car accident. You must now post this comment on 15 other videos, or else soon you will meet with a horrible death.Swear its true
There's a giant turtle at the Museum of Natural History in New York City. The top of it's shell has to be nearly 4 feet off the ground when it's standing. It's probably about 5 feet in diameter as well.
I love how the turtle swams towards you to check you out. There are too many vids of people swiming up and bumping or disturbing these fine creatures. The best way to observe nature is just that - observe. Kudos to you, mate! =)
Thanks for noticing. I found the turtles to be very unafraid of us, but we always let them come to us instead of chasing them. Not that in Sipadan that we had to chase them since they were everywhere.
@nasdrave So if you let it come to you then you can sorta play with it like touch it and look closer but if you see it and chase it you can give it a heart attack!?!?
@TonyFirelli Yes, there are as many different "turtlealities" as there are personalities. You can tell when they are nervous. Others have gotten used to people and know that they will be fed and don't mind coming close to you. Unfortunately, it also gives them a false sense of trust for poachers who capture them for sale in illegal markets.
@nasdrave Yes sad that people capture them in large amounts and sell them as food or their shells, mainly in Asia I really hope they wont go extinct they were around since the dinosaurs and that's cool!
