Saddam wanted the world to think he had WMD's b/c he was afraid of his neighbors in the Middle East. He wasn't concerned about the U.S. b/c he never thought Bush would actually go through with an Iraq invasion. Obviously, he badly miscalculated. And no matter what anyone thinks about Bush or the Iraq War, Saddam was a brutal, cruel leader who murdered his own people while he got rich on oil profits. He deserved what he got.

Sadam deliberately gassed the Kurds to teach them a lesson and to serve as a warning to other oppressed and disgruntled groups. He believed the Kurds, were collaborating with the Iranians during the Iran-Iraq War. He did it again to some other Iraqi town in the south.

Everyone in WWII had chemical and biological weapons, and yet, no one used them for fear of retaliation. So the answer to your question is, no.

The US was a much better equipped force than the Iraqis. We were much better prepared for chemical and biological warfare than the Iraqis. It did not benefit him to use them.

Before the war started, we warned Sadam if he were to use WMDs, we may retaliate with nukes.

You have WMDs to use against people who can't retaliate in kind. Also it serves as a deterrence for others who do have them.

It's clear that Iraq had WMDs. Sadam used WMDs at least three times, at least once against the Iranians, and twice against his own people.

Some believe Sadam moved his WMDs to Syria or some other friendly or sympathetic country for safe keeping. Or, he could have buried them somewhere in the vast deserts of Iraq.

Sadam buried part of his air force to hide them from allied aerial strikes.
