SHIT! I thought it was because me using this laptop too hardcore eventhough I always treat it well. but, we all have the same exact fucked up problem here. so it's not my fault yes hahaha

I`m a tech who fixes these. it`s an issue that has been officially announced, and Sony will fix it for free. If you know what to do, it take as little as 20 min. The new fan installed i Panasonic, where the old one has no sticker, and it looks like a cheap fan from crappy manufacturer.

@vradovic that did not resolve the problem the fan is making the noise due to bearing warn out replacing a os does not physically fix parts on a computer.

Hell, I also have the same laptop with the same annoying fan sound. It started aproximately 6 months after I bought it. I am sick of this noise. I used to have HP laptops, then because the poor hp quality, I changed to Sony, but I am terrible disappointed. I contacted once sony customer services and I was told that its warranty expired. I know I called some time after a year, but I was nerver told that it has a recall, or something like that. Botton line, I regret I bought this junk model.

sony will replace your freaking fan free of charge... i think there is a new issue with my CS36, the power is intermittently shutdown after prolong use (1 hr) but they had fixed it already, it might affect some same models

i just went back from sony plaza in nyc. Despite that the sony website said we can get a free repair, we need to pay one hundred dollar for worker. so, i brought my computer back, just let the fucking computer make noisy till i throw it away.

While it is normal for a cooling fan to spin faster and produce more noise upon startup, the cooling fan in the below listed VAIO notebooks may exhibit a continuous scraping, whirring, chriping and/or clicking noise while running.

@Shobikz Yeah .. good for you. As far as I know Sony acknowledge this problem. Sony is willing to replace a fan for free - like my friend's laptop got fan replacement at her a apartment 3 days after made a phone call. Sony sent technician to her place and took only 15 mins to get thing done.

@heavenblessing Is it free when you contact Sony? Do they replace the whole computer or just the fan? Because the lighting on my laptop flickers as well. I have a VGN-CS215J model like the one showed in the video above. I got this laptop in March 2009 but I don't think I still have my receipt. Would that be a problem? Thanks for all your help!

@chellers It is totally free ..! Sony will replace just CPU fan, then problem would be gone. I guess it was a design problem / defected component (CPU fan) that makes CPU over heat ... then laptop shut down itself.(sometimes you would not be able to turn it on. Unless, you leave it for a while .. let CPU cool down. After that you would be able to turn it on again)

Make a phone call to Sony, explain problem, then they would ask you when you bought this laptop. (I didn't show a reciept)

@heavenblessing I have exactly the same laptop, bought my laptop in feb 2008...there was lil problem in the fan which i thought was bcoz of heat..Now i m out of warranty and the fan is making exactly the same noise that we can see in this video..i called the number too, the online technician connects me to another phone which is busy all the time, 24hrs 7 days a week.. Is that the customer service sony is proud of?

I work in the service of sony laptops. if you have a noisy fan, so it needed replacing. one of the symptoms of a dysfunctional fan is a spontaneous shutdown laptop.

I have a Sony VGN-CS320J which looks identical to the one in the video. Had the exact same problem, called Sony, and within three days a tech was sent to the house to fix it. The phone rep said that the bad fan was a "known issue." The computer has been silent since then. If you are still under warranty call them.

Sony is not that shit, you must always check the system, you can just watch a review or search about it before buy it, because most of the time the hardware looks nice but the software is complete shit, be always aware and always search before buying something that might look nice, but then it might not work properly.

i had the same problem, then it started overheating and shuting down itself, and when i turned it on the low part of the screen like 1cm started blinking. i fixed the fan but the blinking didn't desappeared

This is a sign the fan is failing..Better contact sony and have them replace the fan. Dont wait for your notebook to shut itself off randomly from heat overload.

it's because of the way it's built in the inside-poorly placed fan components along with other parts.

you just have to live with it. replacing the fan will do no good as well as cleaning it.
