Come on, ZUN isn't a good artist. I mean, he's certainly gotten better since he started out and he's not horribly bad or anything but he doesn't need all this defending. He's not a fantastic artist but considering he illustrates, programs and composes for all his games (exceptions like IAMP etc not withstanding) I'd say he's pretty goddamn amazing.

I mean, just coming up with new danmaku patterns each game is a feat in itself.

Well that depends what do you exactly mean by "art". If you mean it by only drawings then yes... he is overrated, Typical frontpagers on dA could work for him and would work out better for him. However if by "art" you mean creativity itself then he hardly has anyone to match him. You dont see a "single" person making a game series so sucesfull everyday now do ya?

My god these comments are pissing me off. If any of you actually look at hentai and ecchi then you should know the difference. Hentai technically always has sex whereas ecchi covers a much broader range of situations. Anything fairly perverted (ranging from panchira to masturbation) can be considered ecchi. If it actually involves sexual intercourse of any kind then it is hentai. Hentai = porn, ecchi can be porn but it isn't always. A good example: go to 4chan and compare the /h/ and /e/ boards.

Well, the Touhou series is still ongoing, but even though I don't know those games you've stated, they are like the top-bottom shoot-em-ups only except the enemies (and espcially bosses) shoot bullets at you dozens by the dozens. They call this "Bullet Hell," which, on my experience playing Touhou, is a convincing term... just like Hell, but the bullets' patterns are awesome to look at... like fireworks. :)

Tohou is also known and unique for it's huge cast of girls, pretty much all girls.

The girls are just characters for the series? Well you'd have to at least appreciate the fact that pretty much every girl is "properly dressed," especially when you hear something that it's mainly a cast of girls. (Well its not like that stops the fans, know what i mean?)

A whole lot of touhou related stuff you see is mainly fan-made stuff. The team that makes the Touhou danmaku (bullet hell) games is made up of only one person, ZUN, so there's not much canon stuff.

There's a few print works, including manga, that had ZUN's involvement. There's also an anime "project" for the series, but it's completely fan-made, without ZUN's involvement.

So pretty much when you talk about touhou related content out there, all the canon stuff is only a fraction of it... then again most popular stuff ends up the same way.
