  • Sublime reading soulfetcher, Thank you so much. Ive read and reread this Elegy for twenty years without really undersanding it until listening to your version.

    (novelist/uk).

  • Please remind me of what music is this. I love the poem and the music goes perfectly with it but I simply cannot remember what it is.

  • @damon132 Maurice Ravel - Pavane pour une infante defunte (pavane for a dead Princess)

  • That's it, I'm determined to commit the First Elegy to memory.

  • I am a gardener. Thank you for this wonderful poetry/translation. Such a thoughtful piece with wonderful nature.

  • @damon132

  • Oh so wonderful, soulfetcher : ) thank you so much! The visual delight of your garden renders a picturesque and poignant flowering of Rilke's words!

  • - my pleasure, I'm pleased you enjoyed it!

  • Soulfetcher,

I've watched this video 15 times already, please read the whole thing, I'll buy the Mitchell translation for you and have it shipped to New Zealand!!!

  • This video introduced me to Rilke and I've used it to introduce others to him.

  • I'm happy to hear that you liked this. I was thinking about doing all 10 Duino Elegies, and you have given me the necessary encouragement-

Stand by for the 2nd Elegy any day :)

  • @soulfetcher You are most welcome, sir. Your voice is perfect for this and I trust you to pick the right pictures/music, I will make great use of the videos if you make 'em.

  • So beautiful! Is this your garden ? I loved the splendid tree and could catch the rose scent . Thankyou so much for reciting this poem for us....... It shall be always on my favourites list .

  • Yes - its my favourite place - not too big - but very beautiful with lots of fruit trees, edibles, or sweet smelling flowers. That tree is a Robinia - a beautiful shade tree in summer and & place for the cats to play.

    Isn't Rilke wonderful

All the best for the new year :)

  • Wonderous!

"Perhaps I can be like her".....

  • Yes, Gaspara Stampa is a model of turning the grief of unrequited yearning into an opportunity for healing creativity.

I guess it offers us a way to relate positively to adversity in general...

  • Very well read... and also Im glad you used what is probably my second favorite piece of music :-)

  • Thanks - i thought the music has that same sense of yearning that i hear in the poem. An emotion that makes this poem such a masterpiece.
