They are cold blooded; however, in the wild this particular species, Crocodylus acutus, would most likely swim away from you if you were in the water. That is until humans started feeding it illegally making it a problematic apex predator. Not all crocs are "man-eaters." And, crocodiles play a very important role in keeping our environment in balance.
@0nlyCrAzY123 Crocodilians are not sick or mean. They are doing what nature has designed them to do & having outlived the dinosaurs they do it very well. The only ones "sick & mean" are humans that insist on feeding them, turning them into human-habituared animals that then consider humans as part of their menu. I live in Florida been around extremely large gators & crocs and of my 50+ years of being around them I still have all of my extremities intact. You just have to know what you're doing.
@0nlyCrAzY123 1 there is no thing such as "MEAN" animals, they only do what they have to do in order to survive, this applies even to dogs and other domestic animals with "MEAN" temperament; 2 that is a crocodile, not an alligator; 3, what was your point mentioning "cold blooded"?, it does not mean the same as in humans, yes indeed they literally have cold blood, needing a source of external heat in order to sustain body temperature... but far from that, your view is shallow and anthropocentrist
I didn't mean to be so harsh. He is a dangerous animal, mainly because locals were feeding him in the wild illegally and letting tourists "pet" him. The solution prior to ACES was to shoot the croc. It is only in captivity because we choose to rescue George and let him at least live a peaceful life in captivity rather than be put down because humans fed him and made him dangerous, just like the bears. Thank you for your concern. Truly Yours, Cherie
First, I do not appreciate your language, children view this link. Next, you have no idea what you're talking about. For your information this species, Crocodylus acutus, primarily eats fish, shrimp, crab, raccoons and small shore birds. The acre containment habitat is natural and these food sources are available to the croc 24 hours a day. The pig head was just a treat and filled with vitamins. So next time before you make a 'pig-headed' statement, do your homework.
@ppinpg While I understand that you do not want to be insulted or have children read curse words over your links. Keep in mind that this is the internet. I shouldn't have to explain anymore than that. If you don't want to see curse words or negative comments then place what you have to say in the video description and disable comments. It was a cool video though.
@99animallover this was a snack for a video. And the video is only a minute and 33 seconds, so if all you're going by is that the croc only had a pig head once in this video, that could mean they COULD have been feeding it like 400 pig heads a day roughly?
Tough to say, depends on the animals and their size. An American Crocodile can get much larger than any alligator; but, in my opinion Gators in general are more aggressive than American Crocs. Also please note: each individual animal has a different disposition.
American Crocodiles are a salt water tolerant Crocodilian and are capable of reaching lengths of up to 20+feet; however, are usually found reaching lengths of 14-16 feet in the wild. The are not man-eaters and prefer fish, shrimp and crab. They are typically shy and will move away from people; unless, people start feeding it like George here. George was fed illegally as a tourist attract and became very dangerous because he no longer fears man. This is why he is at ACES.
Nice to be cold blooded.... now he won't have to eat for a week.
