Funny thing is....the money changers were following Jewish and Gods law, the Roman money had the roman emperors on them, the money changers were exchanging roman pagan money, for temple currency that wouldn't be blasphemous and such and allow them to buy the sacrifices that their own god required of them in the temple. The so called thieves and such were men of god obbeying gods law.
VERY informative! Love the part where it actually instructs the sheep to follow and obey the authorities. I guess we can all guess who contributed that little morsel of wisdom. (Rolls eyes)
Wouldn't mind living long enough to see this cult in particular (well, among others) limp over and die.
I interpret the parable of the talents very differently as a parable against usury and that being virtuous is a hard road full of more punishment than reward.
I love that quote but do you know the source? The various modes of worship which prevailed in the Roman world were all considered by the people as equally true; by the philosopher as equally false; and by the magistrate as equally useful."

hahaha this is laughable. Christianity, one of the biggest religions on earth that shaped and impacted political, economic, social, and spiritual developments for the past two thousand years is nothing. Wow, thats like saying the internet didn't impact communication. Christ? no one special??? o.k.
You missed the point of his video. He said "if" (hypothetical) Jesus existed he was no more special than any other religious "prophet". Granted, Christianity has had a massive impact on the world (no matter how negative) but that doesn't mean Jesus even if he existed was any different than others like him. And Jesus certainly does not represent the morals or ideals most people use him for today (such as prince of peace" or the revolutionary) as mentioned in the video.
No serious historian even doubts that Jesus existed. Its funny, Muhammad, Confucious, Buddha, Abraham, and every other religious prophet existed, but Jesus, oh he's the exception because of the times, go figure.. I'll tell you how he was different, Christianity the biggest religion in the world, the bible, the most printed book in the world, Jesus Christ the most popular man in the world. Also I have to agree he was a more balanced man. hes been romanticized by cinema with smoke and white robes
No one has the slightest physical evidence to support a historical Jesus. No artifacts, dwelling, works of carpentry, or self-written manuscripts. All documents about Jesus got written well after the life of the alleged Jesus from either: unknown authors, people who had never met an earthly Jesus, or from fraudulent, mythical or allegorical writings. If you are honestly not a troll you would do well to view Taylor's "Making a Messiah" series to educate yourself.

This is interesting...I watched a few episodes that are deeply flawed. there is no historical evidence for almost anyone prior to the 1st Century A.D. in fact, that is of course, because 90 percent of the people at this time could not read and write. The Church, scribes, and state officials regulated historic writing. Guess what, Jesus was a heretic in his time, he would not be respected by the church nor written about much outside of his own teachings.
It was not until Constantine the great (300 A.D.) when Christianity became mainstream in Europe. This was 280 or so years After jesus died. The big problem is the fact that Aramaic, Egyptian and Hebrew texts were destroyed through many conquests and invasions. You have to remember much of biblical history happened in North Africa, and the middleast. These text, if even found or translated, would not be respected due to their location and the politics of the times.
We are talking about a man who (supposedly) cured the sick, casted out demons, walked on water, feed the multitudes, raised the dead, and who himself cheated death. Illiteracy and lack of religious respect are non issues if you consider the number of people who witnessed these "miracles". Surely some sort of historical evidence could be found. But alas there is none and without historical evidence Jesus is just as credible as the stories of King Arthur, Osiris,or Socrates.
So you are implying that Plato, Socrates, Josephus, and the Greek philosophers and historians who sparked European civilization simply didn't exist because few sources were written about them, and some well after they died? The problem with picking and choosing what one will believe is the fact that eyewitness accounts are still considered historic (granted the source). This is the problem with naturalistic thinking. Nothing exists without 100% documentation. The world didn't work that way then.
First off, you are changing the target here. We are discussing the evidence to support the existence of Jesus. I'm not going to give you a history lesson for everything you do not understand. Secondly if you want to learn "Socratic problem" I suggest you research it yourself. Lastly, what would you propose if we couldn't verify historical people with evidence? Are we to believe everything that was written or "witnessed" "long ago" is fact? That dragons, wizards and Thor exist?
history lesson??? I highly doubt it. Again, granted the source, we can use common sense to discern the truth or probability of natural and observable phenomenon (humans, nature, events, history).
You do not need to know the slightest about nature, you can believe in ghosts, UFO's yeah even in God/gods... if you have basic skills in literature and history you will still be able to debunk the bible in your own bedroom. The problem with the gospels compared with Plato, Socrates and Josephus are HOW they are written. They show plenty of signs of being tales that grew over time into something completely different than whatever person or story sparked the whole thing.
Socrates may not have existed, there is probably more debate on that than there currently is on Jesus. We do have writings from Plato, whereas Jesus never wrote anything himself. Also don't ignore the fact that Plato has always been considered a simple philosopher, while Jesus has been associated with God by some texts since the 2nd century AD. Therefore with Plato we don't have the possibility of theological embellishment that is there with Jesus.
Taylor, wasn't there other references to Socrates other than Plato's writings? I personally don't think he existed, but I've heard that people who do say that he was written about by other authors of the time.
The beautiful thing about Socrates is that he doesn't have to exist for Plato's works to be relevant or to tell an interesting and moving tale about the times he (Plato) lived in...
I'm not sure, but I don't think any other contemporaries wrote of him. Many people think Socrates was just a sock puppet character for Plato. As you point out though, whether he existed or not, his teachings are no less important or relevant. I wish Christians could feel the same way about Jesus, but that's why they're a religion and not just a philosophy.
The situation with Plato is the same with Josephus. Josephus wrote, while Jesus didn't, and Josephus was a mere historian, Jesus has been labeled as much more.
I'm not really sold on the idea that Jesus never existed, to tell you the truth, but even if we assume he did, the earliest reliable sources tell us very little about who he may have been. What I find more interesting is the notion that his popularity somehow makes him the "ubermensch". Guess who was very popular in Germany in the 1930s.
Uhhhh no evidence for Abraham, and archeology seems to refute quiet a bit about the time of Abraham, but wether or not Jesus or Abraham doesn't mean a single claim about them is true.
I covered the love your enemy dictum in the video, and it's not original. I don't really think turn the other cheek is either, since it's pretty much saying the same thing.
The popular notion of the "money changers" is that some guys had set up some sort of banking establishment in the temple-- When they were actually people selling animals to sacrifice IN THE TEMPLE, a fairly necessary thing.
Yeah, that seems about right. Especially for Passover, people had to buy lambs to sacrifice in the temple, so it's probable that they were sold near or in the temple.
Well there was a banking system to an extent they were exchanging pagan coins that Jesus himself in the old testement spoke out against, for coins that wouldn't be blasphemous since the roman emperors were on the roman coins and were considered gods by the romans they could be seen as taken Idolotry into the temple.
Again- Something necessary to the temple, not anything to get all bent out of shape over to the point of overturning tables and whipping people. Makes you wonder anout the "prince of peace" and his anger issues.

oh yeah...it's going to piss many conservative Christians off....but what else is new? Gotta do some research into it to cover all the angles though, so it will probably be next week sometime.
Trinity says Jesus==God and God was allowed to tell the Jews to go murder and pillage and rape. So the least he could do was allow Himself to do some of that. After all: His temple, His world, His universe.
Did you know He was cruel to a tree too? It carried no fruits for Him so He withered it. For He had Faith. Matthew 21:18-22.
heh lets not forget that one of the gospels has him leave the temple build the whip himself and then go back, it's not just a simple case of lost of sanity due to rage, it was fully premedetated.
Wow, timestandingstill, you're an unbelievable pussy. Your arguments get destroyed and instead of manning up and admitting it, you delete all your comments. Jesus would be proud!
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished." -Matt. 5:17-18
Sorry to inform you, but these words of Jesus indicate that the Hebrew law remains in effect until heaven and earth disappear.
Also, don't you believe Jesus is the same god who commanded the brutality of the Old Testament? After several millennia of barbarism, God decided to be "merciful"? What a joke. Jesus wasn't just a carpenter, he was a comedian too!
Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.
"Each person in the house hold will be accountable of his own works, Not just because they are part of a certain family."
So what? What does this have to do with anything discussed in the video? Does it make Jesus any more peaceful? Of course not. You don't even deny that he comes to set families and friends against each other. Division =/= peace.
Huge contradictory messages, Taking up the sword and overturning temples and at same time preaching about being "submissive to authority" wither they be fair or unfair.
Not every church interprets those verses the same way, The catholic church was big and still is big in the tenet that "God establishes every ruler" including Papa Doc and General Franco.
Matthew 10:34-37 is in interpreted by most , To be about the opposition to your faith by your fleshly family, and how Jesus followers would be persecuted, That's how that verse was explained to me.
Phl 2:9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and [that] every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ [is] Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;
Does quoting scripture make the problems go away? Plug your eyes, close your eyes tightly, and repeat after me: "Jesus is God and he died for my sins, Jesus is God and he died for my sins..."
And this is supposed to mean something? The bible has little to no historical evidence for mjority of it's claims particularly anything before 700 BCE and nothing really outside of the bible but a few questionable smatterings for jesus.
"no historical evidence for [majority] of it's claims particularly anything before 700 BCE"
There is archaelogical evidence for David's palace, Solomon's temple and the cities that he built, a United Israelite kingdom, Exile to Babylon and much much more. I have no idea why you make these assumptions. Are they out of ignorance or arrogance?
"The authorities that exist have been established by God"
That's an interesting quote.
We should all go back to a Roman empire, as clearly thats the government talked about.
OR
When you have God on your side, you can rebel against the current authorities. God will put the rightful government in place.
I like the second one. It does not only allow the USA as a legitimate government meant to be respected, but it also allowed Mohamed to raise a series of Muslim countries. Funny how that works.
No, that means you're going to Hell. But We'll all pray for you to completely ignore reality and reverse your world view so that you can be saved after you're dead, when nobody's around to record what actually happened to you.
@stubzT, you just don't have a personal relationship with yourself like the evangelicals. You need to ask for yourself to enter your heart, and then yourself can guide you, and that way, you know it's not you you're following, but yourself. Like the time Bush43 talked to himself, and himself told Bush43 that it was a-ok to take over Iraq.
It's not technically a metaphor.. however, most Christians simply interpret it to mean that if you become a Christian, friends and family may 'persecute' you. The things that people REALLY don't like in the Bible is most certainly NOT metaphor. Was Yahweh speaking metaphorically in Numbers 25 when he orders the Israelites to execute all who "commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab," then sets about massacring 24,000 innocent Hebrews with a plague?
To the authors, they weren't speaking metaphorically, it was just calling the morale zeitgeist of the Hebrews, "Yahweh" and acting like any event that happened was their invisible friend "Yahweh" helping them, like any time Yahweh helped in the killing a bunch of people, like the time Moses was helped out when Egyptian's chariots got stopped because of Yahweh, and "not" just because chariot wheels aren't so great at going through mud. Not much different than the Norse giants & Thor.
How am I supposed to honor my mother and father if I'm supposed to hate them too?

Trinity says Jesus==God and God was allowed to tell the Jews to go murder and pillage and rape. So the least he could do was allow Himself to do some of that. After all: His temple, His world, His universe.
Did you know He was cruel to a tree too? It carried no fruits for Him so He withered it. For He had Faith. Matthew 21:18-22.

heh lets not forget that one of the gospels has him leave the temple build the whip himself and then go back, it's not just a simple case of lost of sanity due to rage, it was fully premedetated.

"But shun profane and vain babblings"
Great advice! You might want to consider applying it to the bible.

TaylorX04 2 years ago
Also, don't you believe Jesus is the same god who commanded the brutality of the Old Testament? After several millennia of barbarism, God decided to be "merciful"? What a joke. Jesus wasn't just a carpenter, he was a comedian too!

I am a deist by the way.
Obasiliasfilosofos 2 years ago
I realize that, but it doesn't change the fact that Jesus is no prince of peace if he seeks to divide family and friends over his cause.

Phl 2:9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and [that] every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ [is] Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;

Does quoting scripture make the problems go away? Plug your eyes, close your eyes tightly, and repeat after me: "Jesus is God and he died for my sins, Jesus is God and he died for my sins..."

jesus is a name above all others?? why are half the mexicans in my neighborhood named jesus?
Shadrach76 2 years ago 4

Mathew 10:34-37 is a metaphor silly, the stuff people don't like in the bible is a metaphor.
brutus149 2 years ago 3
Does that mean because I don't like any of the Bible that to me it's all a metaphor?
StubzTurner 2 years ago 5
No, that means you're going to Hell. But We'll all pray for you to completely ignore reality and reverse your world view so that you can be saved after you're dead, when nobody's around to record what actually happened to you.
YashinNashi 2 years ago 4
@stubzT, you just don't have a personal relationship with yourself like the evangelicals. You need to ask for yourself to enter your heart, and then yourself can guide you, and that way, you know it's not you you're following, but yourself. Like the time Bush43 talked to himself, and himself told Bush43 that it was a-ok to take over Iraq.
brutus149 2 years ago
It's not technically a metaphor.. however, most Christians simply interpret it to mean that if you become a Christian, friends and family may 'persecute' you. The things that people REALLY don't like in the Bible is most certainly NOT metaphor. Was Yahweh speaking metaphorically in Numbers 25 when he orders the Israelites to execute all who "commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab," then sets about massacring 24,000 innocent Hebrews with a plague?
Lbbhecht 2 years ago
@lbbhect

Jesus, the man or the character created by men, was just one of many would-be messiahs in the first century. People latched onto him by chance.
