This is another one of those YOUTUBE performances that should be seen by every person who is studying musical theatre. Lupone creates each character in the song sharply and powerfully,. The contrast between the desperate king and the proud sun god is exquisite. The character, striving to justify her choice to go with the younger man, could not have a better way to express her emotional and moral ambivalence.

Wow. This was the show that would become her one-woman show, Patti Lupone on Broadway in 1995. Her interpetation and power are second to NONE. Every time I see her it renews my passion for performing and MAKES me want to be better.
