i agree with you but i think that we should be allowed to own full automatics because its a why not thing. Collectors and what not would want them and gun enthuisests and target shooters may want them for the fun of it. Also, i think its pretty stupid that we can't hunt with cross bows either.
Thanks to Scalia & Co's re-writing of the Second Amendment, individuals have the right to carry canons for traditional purposes like self defence and hunting. It's what the Founders meant.... Honestly..... Truely...... No doubt about it...
All human situations have their inconveniences. We feel those of the present but neither see nor feel those of the future; and hence we often make troublesome changes without amendment, and frequently for the worse. Benjamin Franklin
If you believe in people being responsible in the ownership of the firearms they purchase. Why shouldn't the People as a whole be able to purchase them. One of the biggest reasons for the second article of the Bill of Rights was for the people to be the Military (Militia) due to the possibility of future tyrants. No matter how omnipotent a government may seem, there will always be people who seek power. People like Hitler, Stalin, and the like. Here is as likely a place as any to come to power.
the only thing i dont agree with you on is that the state nor the govenment are going to give us a automatic weapon if we needed it. but i dont want one. i just want my rights just like you. and one of the right is to keep and bear arms so i can keep the rest of my rights....
"I ask, sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people. To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them." -George Mason, during Virginia's Convention to Ratify the Constitution (1788).

If the purpose of the constitution is to protect yourself from a tyranial government or invading army, then how can you not believe in fully automatic rifles?
I doubt if the US army decided to kill everyone the citizens could defend themselves with semi automatics.
I disagree - how many active members of the United States Military are there? How many of those are actual combat soldiers and not in support roles? Now, how many CITIZENS of this country are there? WE HAVE THE POWER - It is time that we stand up and TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK! Either by voice or by force - we either take our Nation back from the Socialist forces looking to dissolve our Rights or the America we know and love will be nothing more than a footnote in the History Books.
While I agree with you for the most part, I take issue with your definition of "arms". As the Founding Fathers intended, "arms" are those weapons which would be owned by private citizens who may at some point be called into the service of militia. Also you are categorically incorrect with your assertion that most states prohibit ownership of fully automatic rifles. This is governed by Federal law, not state.
In addition, I would like to believe that if an invading force were to enter the U.S. that the government, would supply and train any man, woman, or child who requested it.
In my ignorant youth I would say "I KNOW my rights!" and it wasn't until I educated myself did I fully understand and respect the gift that has been given. I feel the best way I can show appreciation is upholding the gift so that others too may benefit.
Whew sorry for the text brick, I wish youtube would allow more than 500 characters.
Would the government even permit having the possibility of inexperienced shooters carrying M16A2s? Personally, I believe it is necessary for every American citizen to understand their constitutional rights AND enforce them. Speak and write freely, learn proper care and usage of firearms, require search warrants even in what you believe to be the most minor of situations, you do not have to answer every question asked by an officer but you have everything to lose from lying!
Here here! I wanted to give you lots of praise and that would be it, but I now have to pose a question. At the end you were talking about a militia and "they're gonna give us one [machine gun]" who is "they" ? The government/military? What would happen if the government formed a state of tyranny using the military to enforce new law? Or if an invading force began occupying areas, would the military even have the arms to supply civilians?
in the strictest sence of the word yes, however, i have turrned a supersoker in to a flame-thrower and a have fired ballbearrings from a paintball marker. In some states, mine included, a crossbow is considered a fire-arm because it fires a projectile. Then of couse you have to be 18 to buy these items except for the supersoker and gasoline.
True if more people were trained in gun safety there would be less gun related accidents... not to mention gun locks for guns in homes with small children. Those opposed to gun locks and have small kids deserve to have their progeny offed.
not to mention, a fully automatic weapon is no more dangerous than a semi automatic weapon. and im for owning automatic weapons, as long as people are trained to use automatic weapons safely and go through more firearms courses to obtain one i have nothing against it.
well, the militia is an army of everyday people. so in sense everyone is a militia member. regulated means trained in the safe use of firearms. and as far as being supplied with automatic weapons, the government owns them, the primary use of the second amendment is a means in which to overthrow a tyranical government. it be nice to even the playing field.
If Obama is elected again most of our guns and ammunition will be gone!!!

Just for the record, I AM IN FAVOR OF RESPONSIBLE ARMS OWNERSHIP. When you purchase a "gun" YOU are responsible for it's safety.

a "firearm" requires combustion to operate. according to your definition, a super soaker, paintball marker or similar device is a firearm.
