@MarkyMarkSaffa They happen when two or more parachute lines get entangled with each other. This can pull the fabric of the parachute into positions surely not suitable for a safe landing, like in this case. It's possible to clear them without cutting away, but at a cost of altitude you usually don't have.
That was awfully fast. What really surprised me was how hard that spiral was from a few tension knots. I'm guessing that was because your main is so small?
Right procedure is to pull always reserve handle after the cutaway handle , but this innovation is so fast that whenever you pull the handle probably the reserve is already open!!
Anyway in case of a total malfunction (nothing out) there isn't a malfuncioned cutted away main parachute which open your reserve ...so you have to do it before an automatic opener device (Cypress AAD Vigil AAD or others) do it for you at about 750 ft.from impact.
With the skyhook do you not need to pull the reserve handle as the skyhook does this automatically??(but it's still there incase for some reason it didn't come out?)
If you have an RSL on and ready to go, when you cut away your reserve opens up.
I am no expert but I think a skyhook, just like any other rig has the ability to have an RSL on it, and RSLs save WAYYYY more lives than they kill. Doing certain types of jumps it is better to not use them.
a & b? Looks like the rear, or c & d. And if it included the brake wouldn't that also indicate c&d? I can see right side rear is tweaked somehow. Hard to tell for sure with the slider blocking the view. But, hey, you tried to release the brakes first to try to clear it. Good job regardless. I just love a nice mal!
whats a skyhook?

You should still pull your reserve handle no matter what- its only a back up device- they can fail!! remember your EPs :)

@KingofDeath Nobody seemed to mention an RSL?

how do you cut the chute away? with a knife or a handle?
snowyywwinters 2 years ago
You use a handle, It is not so uncommon, maybe 1 in 1000-2000 jumps on average.
