I am Guyanese and my family loves this song. Apparently there is some family connection that we have with you. We absolutely love this song and when we have family get togethers we always sing it as a group and it has become very special to us. I just heard the original for the first time today and makes me love the song even more.
@Josephpgonsalves Thanks...good to hear from you...and to know you and your family have embraced this song!...Blessings to you all...................!
This album was the first piece of vinyl I ever owned. Stemming from my absent fathers record collection, I used to sit by my record player hoping one day my father would sing this song to me. Although my father never shared the same dream it still helped me through the bad times. So I thought I would continue to share this video in hopes to inspire fatherless children to seek music to fill the voids in their hearts. Chi Meegwetch David Campbell!
Really...wow...Dave is an old time friend of my brothers...I love this song and my sister who is a singer sing this very well~ thank you Laurie...He lives in B.C. now
I remember him singing this in T.O. - Mariposa festival in the 70's when I was a wee child....<3 <3 <3 to you David Campbell!!! I'm still pretty brown :o) and I love singing this song...
Hello my friend...I just stopped in to say hello and get a dose of "Pretty Brown"...always my favorite..reminds me of being a teenager again...thank you for that...xoxo...be well
Thank you so much for posting this. My Dad used to sing this song to me when I was little and I never knew who wrote it, so now I'm glad I know. I was very close to my daddy and I could still hear him singing this to me and calling me and my sisters his "Pretty browns"
Hi Dave...nice to see you on here...i am Isaac Day's sister....i met you in Toronto about 35 yrs ago...remember you and your sister at Toronto Island at a native event.... : )
@ahsenad........wow...I remember that...I was there also....i even have a picture of David and I that was taken there.I was only a teenager..time go by so fast...thanks for that memory
Today was the first time I knowingly heard you sing...It was the first time I heard the song"pretty brown"...a good friend of mine sent it to me, and my granddaughter and I listened to it several times, loving it more each time...we then went on to explore the other songs you have written...she loves the potato and corn song.
I remember this song from my teens... made me cry, also remembering the friend who played it for me and who has since passed into the spirit world. Thank you so much for posting it!
I was so happy to finally find this song..i have loved it forever..chi miigwetch..I dont think you would remember me..but I am wilfred peltiers daughter jen..so nice to find you on youtube thank u for your beautiful music
It was with much regret that I took the first "Pretty Brown" video...with its 1829 views...off YouTube...feeling I had good reason to do so at the time. This voice and guitar version..."Pretty Brown-2""...replaced it. I am thankful for the 1,000 views...just passed by this version. "Pretty Brown" lives on!.
it sure does David! Miigwetch for posting this song. I cried, like others, because it touched me so deeply and spoke to something deep inside me...from my childhood and moving through life that has taken me to the city and back again! So beautiful!
there are people bareyly able to *preserve* life and then there are people like u David who are able to *give* life. My Dad and I(who tend to be in the former category) just spoke for the first time in years and this song helps me 'put it behind, turn round my mind' and 'know that I'm winning'. thank u dear life giver.
David, I want to thank you for this song. I played it over and over on our turntable when I was a little girl. I've wished to hear it again many times and it makes me so happy to find it here on YouTube.
Am I correct in thinking this song was composed in the 60's?? I recall you coming home to Guyana and we flocking around you wonderously listening to your beautiful voice and meaningful lyrics. Granny and others beaming with pride. Thanks for sharing this with me, I look forward to more. Love from your niece Marianne.
I have David Campbell records recorded many years ago. I have always appreciated his music and the content of his songs. One of my daughters, Kodid, is named after one of his songs Come Back Kodid, about the Amerindinan people of Guyana. I wish he would put this one on YouTube. Beautiful music.
"Pretty Brown" lives on, a heartfelt tribute from you to all the prettybrowns out there, I personally know how it has comforted and restored confidence to many in the "pretty brown nation". Love, arawani.
The first version of "Pretty Brown" as a video journeyed well and has moved on. My thanks to the beautiful people who appeared in it. The song goes on...
This summer it will be thirty years since "Pretty Brown" was written from a place of love. Many Native People have told of how this song affected their lives
positively. I am thankful this song came to me. Marakore.
I'm really delighted to hear this song again. I heard it once (yes, just once!) on a CBC program in 1979 or 1980, and have never forgotten it.
