Well if you are Wiccan you should know that a Witch and a Wiccan isn't the same thing... Besides in Denmark and the rest of Scandinavia this is a much older tradition than Christmas (or any other tradition I can think of). It originates from when the Solstice was celebrated by the pagans with fire.. The witch is a new addition from the 1860s when a lot of German people came to Denmark to work and decided to try and scare the witches with the witch dolls on the fire..

But really, theres never been any incidents or or reports of violent or other abnormal behavior linked to Sankt Hans here in DK.

But it dosen't seem just as focused on the burning of the witch here in DK when we do it, because it's usually linked to a party where it more about the food, songs and sometimes firework that accompanies the lightning of the pyre, then the actual burning of the witch :)

@Jcolinsol Well, in Denmark & Norway we do this every year, and our children watch and love it.. and Denmark is one of the countries in the world with the lowest crime rate, especially from insane people... sooh, I think the effects are pretty harmless ;)
