  • Julie Newmar has my vote for the sexiest Catwoman.

  • Julie Newmar was THE Catwoman, no one else filled her spandex suit in curves or attitude.

  • @roscoe008 Wrong again. Eartha Kitt was the quintessential personification of Catwoman and by the way, the 'suit' the Catwomen wore was made of Lurex, not Spandex. I own one of the 3 originals.

  • @retroexplosion1 The three original costumes? Does that mean that each of the three Catwomen from the 60s show had their own costume? You must have Eartha's?

  • @BmcC102 There wewre only two "Catwomen" on the TV series--Julie Newmar and Eartha kitt.

Lee Ann Meriwether only played "Catwoman"/"Miss Kitka" in the "big screen" version of the TV series, because Newmar had a previouys film commitment.

But Meriwether did play another role in a few "King Tut" episodes of the "Batman" TV series.

  • @gymnastix Trust me, I am well aware of the three Catwomen and which ones appeared in which seasons/movie.

  • @retroexplosion1 You own one of the three "originals" as worn by which actress?

How did you happen to obtain the costume?

  • @retroexplosion1 By the way, you're entitled to your opinion, but popular sentiment is for Julie Newmar as "The Catwoman."

After all, Newmar was cast before Eartha Kitt in the role. And Newmar had great moves, was a professional dancer.

Nor was a film made titled "To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything! Eartha Kitt."

But would you agree that Grace Jones would have made a good "Catwoman" in the Kitt mold, for the later film version, had the producers not gone with Michele Pfeiffer?

  • @gymnastix No one owns the Cat Woman like Newmar !

  • @roscoe008 Absolutely correct. No one played "Catwoman" like Julie Newmar!

Many make the mistake that Lee Ann Meriwether was a third "Catwoman" on the "Batman" TV series. But Meriwether only played the role in the "big screen" version of the TV series, because Newmar had a previous commitment. Eartha Kitt was the only other TV "Catwoman."

However, Meriwether appeared as another character, in a few "King Tut" episodes of the TV series.

  • @roscoe008 And just as you and I agree Newmar was THE "Catwoman," I think Frank Gorshin was THE "Riddler."

John Astin never slithered around in those green tights the same way (just didn't posess the same agility as Gorshin), nor had the same maniacal giggle that Gorshin did.

I actually thought Paul Reubens ("Pee Wee Herman") would have come closest to Gorshin in the role, even though many thought Jim Carrey a suitable "Riddler" in the more modern "Batman" films.

  • @roscoe008 And for a "Catwoman" in the modern films, I originally thought Cher would have made a good "Catwoman," and Grace Jones (very panther-like anyway) in the Eartha Kitt mold.

But today, no question, Angelina Jolie would make a good "Catwoman." Still no Julie Newmar, but would be very good.

  • @roscoe008 As for THE "Joker," even though Jack Nicholson was funny in the first "Batman" remake film, he was certainly no Cesar Romero. And Heath Ledger, whom I loved in general, played a much different "Joker" than I prefer. I would have to put on my thinking cap as to who would make a good "Joker" closest to Romero and the classic DC comics version of that villain.

  • @roscoe008 DeVito wasn't even my choice for THE "Penguin." I had thought of another actor at the time, which I have forgotten. If anything comes to me (for "Joker" or "Penguin"), I'll return here to post.

I think George Clooney was probably the best of the modern "Batmen," and Chris O'Donnell adequate as "Robin." But I'll bet I could come up with even better choices for those lead roles than Hollywood did.

  • @roscoe008 Lurex vs. spandex aside, you are correct that Newmar is most popular choice as best "Catwoman."

Most "str8" men wouldn't know the difference between spandex and cellophane anyway. But a real man would know about "curves."

  • @roscoe008 Actually, that Marcia Cross, from the TV series "Desperate Housewives," has a sort of Julie Newmar thing going for her. But I doubt she can move like Newmar.
