  • i never knew this song was about Mickey Mouse breasts on T-shirts..wow

  • Du-du-du- dudu-du

They just don't write poetry like that anymore ... (sigh)

  • Nice vid

  • Fail on 1:25

  • SARA MAYA THIS IS YOU

  • I'm all for cover versions but sorry Art, all the changes made here are for the worse. I guess BW is such a perfectionist there is no room for improvement.

  • @peetludlow not a Brian Wilson song, my friend, but written by the underrated genius Bruce Johnston. I think Art does a great job here, he always has this kind of melancholy in his voice. Thanks for posting, jokarilon.

  • @michieljansen57 You're right of course, a BJ song, but I think if you're going to change a few chords, do it to improve, not to simplify. I take your point about the voice though.

  • Somehow this my anthem.

  • :29 The Captain & Tennille!!!!

  • One of my favorite songs.

It should be pointed out that the "Disney girl" shot shows the blonde wearing the mouse shirt with the mice and noses in very interesting positions.

I guess some reality's for me.

  • This is a beautiful song about a time of childhood innocence, and the video was completely ruined by adding the picture of the tramps from MardiGras with their "Micky boobs"....WALT DISNEY WOULD NOT APPROVE and neither do I!

  • Old times song, high school.

  • excellent vid...good job! thks!

  • @kavorka999

    Have a good time !

  • This is my second favourite version, after Bruce Johnston's solo performance on the Old Grey Whistle Test.

The Beach Boys' version is too "sleepy" but that was down to Bruce's production. I wasn't alive during their dominance but they stand alone as the most i-n-n-o-v-a-t-i-v-e band ever ..... imo.

  • @helenaZZZZirlandaise beach boys most innovative? most defiantly not. The Beatles are billions of light years ahead.

  • @Vip3rAce "billions of light years ahead" is a gross overstatement and a joke. but if you're taking all the beach boys vs all the beatles then yeah, beatles are ahead for sure. but if you're just taking wilson, mccartney, lennon, then no. those three were right with each other.

  • Wow Simon & Garfunkel meets Beach Boys. Absolutely great!!

  • @ilsy74

    You're so right!

  • From the Breakaway album- his best IMO.

  • From his Breakaway album (his best I think) terrific rendition.

  • Hmm.. just ruined a wonderful song by putting those two dumb gals with their boobs showing. I wanted to send this to someone. :(

  • Love this song from the "Ole school" of classy singers. "Radar" acoustic by Timmy D--my son--sings to be proud of!!

  • ...church and bingo chances...love that.

  • Hey guys, we've got similar stories here, one of my favorites too, when I was in college ( we could be classmates ha ha ha), and studiebaker, its DZMB, used to listen to that FM station too before.

  • I love this song very much. It's great that Art covered it.

  • I completely agree. The Beach Boys didn't do justice to this song as much as they should have. Only Bruce singing solo brings this emotion to it. Amazing lyrics which could explain Art's decision to cover the song.

  • No knock on this version, it is really well done. But the original is still the best.

  • to hannibalQueen666 : we have more or less the same story on this song. Brings back a lot of memories so many years ago in the Philippines when it was played in an FM station ( DZBM if I remember correctly ). I was then in college also.

  • I've been looking for this song for 30 years. I finally hearing it again it reminds me when I was in College. I was only a freshman student when this song became so popular in the Philippines and then my family migrated to North America and never heard it again until now. Thank you so much for uploading this song it brings back a lot of memories.

  • @HannibalQueen666 i have not heard this song in a long time also. i just love Art so much.

  • Not bad but original is better. The Women with the Mickey shirts at 1:10 were work the viewing, Mahahahah.

  • 何でキャプテン&テニールがwww

  • Got this on the original Garfunkel record album...of course, no way to play it nowadays. The whole album is just gorgeous.

  • I've got the vinyl album and play it (and many others) on the Dual turntable I bought in 1976. Occasional maintenance has kept it going strong.

  • Now, people. I read this as a totally ironic song about Disney-plastic denial. It's a peaceful life, but only if you go to this fantasy world--"reality/ is not for me." Pretty, yes. But real--it would be pretty to think so.

  • Rly...I think its an attempt to go back to a time when life was simpler. Or to want to go back...

  • i didn't tthink that art could sing this song so beautifully...

  • why? he does in EVERY song!

  • of course, he does in every song he sings... you're cute, lol!! well, you know... i mean not on this particular song. i didn't expect him to sing it this well... but art even surpassed the excellence of the capt. and the wife in this particular song. thanks for your nice comment. i, too, like art. friends?

  • 1:25

    Enjoying the serenity of nature!

  • Arts voice is as pure as it gets! great to hear it again

  • Very nice, but it doesn't deviate from Bruce Johnstons stunning performance....where is the interpretation?

  • The Bruce Johnston version is "unbeatable" and so is "I write the songs". by far...

  • great beach boys song! bruce johnston 4e!

  • i love this song very. i was in 2nd year hichskul when i hear this....thanks

  • You're welcome !

  • This was my favorite music since i was little and it brings back memmories.....

  • OH my god, my ex sent me the link, and at the opening bars I just sat and cried like a baby. How romantic, and what lovely memories.

    thanks Munch xx

  • well somethings you never forget. i still listen to all our stuff from nearly 30 years ago amazing.xxx 9 .

  • I don't have any of it because sadly I lost my entire record collection when I got divorced, every single one - even my War of the Worlds that you bought me :(

  • jokarilon thanks for this package many sweet memories its this sort of stuff that makes you tube work by the way who do you reckon done the whistling?

  • Welcome & good day !

trfesok (see his/her comment 4 months ago) said, "The whistling on three versions (Beach Boys, Captain and Tenille and this one) is done by Bruce Johnston!"

  • Gorgeous video!! One of my favorites in college. Top ten voices of my life.

  • Thanks !

  • Did anyone notice at 1:11-1:12 the "Disney Girls"??? OMG!!! Take another gander! Kinda classless if you ask me.

  • Sorry... I didn't mean to offend.

  • No biggie. I jumped a little too hard. You actually did a very nice job editing that video. You gotta have an eagle-eye to even notice it. I thought you sort of knowingly "slipped" the pic in there. It's fine. I didn't mean to be that critical. Quite frankly, the only reason I noticed it is because a while back, someone e-mailed me that pic as a novelty.

  • Thanks !

    Yeah, I understand it now.

    Have a good time.

  • i love this song!

  • both versions are highly rated, arts banjo in the song is more in the mix, and his voice suits it great, bruce BB version is good

  • I love this song but Capt. and Tenille's version sounded a lot better. Thanks again.

  • I've posted C&T version too but has been blocked from playback due to music rights issue.

  • since we lost the tenille version, thanks for uploading this. it's good too.

  • Good Old Jimmy Webb. He took over as Art's

main song provider after the S&G split.

  • I think Bruce Johnson from the beach boys wrote this/ I'm almost sure of it. GREAT SONG!!!

  • beautiful memories.. have u got by any chance 99miles from LA ?

  • I love art garfunkel!!

  • The whistling on three versions (Beach Boys, Captain and Tenille and this one) is done by Bruce Johnston!

  • ...thanks for the info.

  • Actually "Mama" Cass Elliot also did a version of this, on her self titled album. For me, hers is the best! But then I am biased I guess.

  • Great version but no one can do the harmonies on 'Church Bingo Chances & Old Time Dances' like the Beach Boys.

  • It simply pulverises the Beach Boy's original. Smashies it to smitherines which say a lot.

    AMERICANA AT IT'S BEST.

Up there with Gershwin et al. It's that good. Sublime.

  • "Pulverises" The Beach Boys version? Hahahahaha! How silly. It's a nice version but Garfunkle's voice is much thinner than Johnson's and compared to Bruce,Art is singing like a man singing someone else's song.Which he is. The definitive version is The Beach Boys version. Period.

  • You don't think that the production values on the Beach Boys original are a little rough? Or the arrangement on the AG version and especially the musicianship leave the orginal standing? Granted, Johnson's voice is great.

  • You did an excellent job with the graphics.

  • Thanks, Landrew...

  • Seen art live twice and hoping to catch him in the uk later this year, love this song, thanks for putting it up.

  • Welcome... It's my pleasure to post songs many persons listen to.

  • Great video, Jokarilon!! And I love this song, and album of Garfunkel's!! Thanks!!

    David

  • The photography on this is just wonderful. I also love the song. Being in my 40's, a lot of the song has meaning to me.

  • thanks! enjoy more!

  • although gettin' near the end of 40's, i agree. brings back many memories! art's voice is amazing.

  • Fantastic video. 5 stars for you ! I love this song since I was a young girl. Thank so much!

    Regards from Spain

  • Hello there in Spain... gracias!

    Thanks- ;-)

  • Thanks so much for putting this together, it's an exquisite song. Although the images I see when I hear this song are different to those you chose, it is cool to see yours. Its so poignant, this song, it moves me every time. Thanks!!!

  • Oh, thanks. Good day!

  • I have a Beachboys recording of this song but had never heard Art Garfukel's version until now - he has the voice of an angel. So - thanks for making this available - lovely pictures. I always regarded it as a very beautiful song with a definite sting! Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks, midlander... happy viewing & enjoy listening!

  • You did a beautiful job with a beautiful song. Thank you so much for stirring up an old lady's memories.

  • Welcome there & thanks for such inspiring comment.

  • The bittersweet irony of this song seems to have alluded the maker of this video but thanks for posting anyway.

  • hmmm...
