BTW, there is a video of chalise beeing interviewed in dutch and responding in south african. They have no problem understanding each other. of course there are some things that I don't understand when they talk to fast but that also goes for some local european dutch dialects.

It's actually a language on its own, I does have similarities with Dutch, but with alot of other languages as well, including Zulu, Tswana, English and many others. It's basically Dutch-based and then it got so influenced by other languages that it is now another language alltogether. O and FYI I live in South Africa and Afrikaans is my primary language

Ya that's because Afrikaans (that's what the language is called) comes from Dutch. Remember South Africa was discovered by the Dutch (Jan Van Reibeck). My Mum speaks Afrikaans and she understands alot of Dutch and a bit of German to because of her Afrikaans.
