I knew that Strider was indeed one of the good guys, as it is hard to imagine King Elfstone as a base rapscallion; as for the movie itself: It stirs some suspicion against friendly old hosts, as one will start to assume that they are devils incarnate and the head of the local organized crime section; but the movie appears pretty realistic and sober, besides the initiation scene is a bit overdone; plus the story with the child and the nurse is a bit too romantic and melodramatic.

Definitely one of my top five favorites. Powerful. A really sad look at the true evils of the Russian criminals. Vincent's performance was heart breaking especially at the end. Yeah, the ending wasn't very climactic, but I liked how it ended kind of with a whisper rather than a bang. I also hear that Cronenberg and Viggo are teaming up again for a sequel.
