If ANYONE in the ACTUAL pokemon game series replaced Ash, it'd be a way better tv series. Black and White, for example. Put in Hilda and Hilbert (or Touko and Touya in Japanese) and put in N and keep the Subway Masters in it, and we've got the greatest season of Pokemon yet.

It's called "Pokemon Adventures" In English, "Pokemon Special" in Japanese, and it's usually shortened as "Pokespe". It's really heavily based off the games, and all the characters (Except Yellow and Emerald) are based off the in-game player characters and rivals. You should look it up. :3

If they ever decide to revisit the anime formula or make a second anime in a different style/with a different approach (like pkmn b/w's story), they should definitely consider some of the "fan visions" for chars like Red for their character design. Not all of them and not following them completely, hell no, but stuff like the creepypasta about Blue's Raticate could make for real emotional impact, nuzlocke style.
