IOS is really restrictive on what you can do and what apps can. I would always jailbreak to try to get past those limitations, but i really got tired of keeping up with jailbreak updates. That was my pain point having to keep up with jailbreak updates to just get close to what android did out of the box.
same with linux. vista was so horrible it pushed me away. windows 7 is pretty good but i'm still not coming back. go with what you are used too unless there is some unforgivable flaw for you.
I moved from IOS to Android and after 3 days I'm switching back, Android has tuns and tuns of features over iOS however iPhone has a much much better camera and software and the millions more apps available for ios.
@Runemix well, "easy" is a relative term, to me creating apps is rocket science, as is for any average user who don't have time, patience or talent for it.
@Dexter011S I don't mean the creation itself because there both written in java... I mean the way you can use a app.. On iOS every App you use has to go trough a check of Apple if it is okay and legal for the market ... On Android you can just install every app you have created
Well there is alot Google and its platform have 2 learn they haven't had the same amount of time to grow as apple have. That haven't been growing in the same way Google have the problem with many venders not just 1. They have time a long way and have a long way 2 go. And who knows maybe we will see ububtu on the iphone ?
It isn't just pain... it is also superiority! Ie you may not feel pain from your current device but may wish it was so much more when looking at another.

Perhaps a much larger and versatile developer community that is present on Android could make you switch. You might not feel that "pain" point because the current set-up you own meets your needs, but is there a possibility for it to be optimized/improved in some way to make it better by your own standards? The thing that I like about Android is that I can freely modify my experience to be better than what I need (or do what I need it to do better), or I can throw suggestions to the community.
@Dexter011S Android is know for its full customize. You can change your screens to anything you like with widgets, clocks live wall-papers, Change browsers to like firefox every single thing. Dont have to use that stupid Itunes for sending music to phone. They is so much Android has going for it than iphone. You name one thing that iphone can do that android can't and I bet you Android comes out on top.
For me its mostly the price cause here where i live the iphone factory unlocked can cost a fortune and price never drops down.sure you can jailbreak it but i know sometimes it could be a pain in the you know what, waitin for new jailbreak to release is hard.On the other side the android phones get cheaper with time and you can easily get your hands on one plus its no slouch.
Here iphone 4s factory unlocked is twice as much as compared to the top android phones so pain point is there for me
Surely it is user experience for you Chris? I prefer the android OS because of the custom and mod ability with Android devices.
My ZTE Blade is about 3 or 4 generations old now and still I can install new Android OSs but it is all up to user experiance and like you say switching systems is a massive task when we consider the amount of data that a general user, not just a techie, has to backup, transfer and generally sort out.
Id only switch if Apple stopped focusing on user experience and more on pleasing tech bloggers. What I mean is recklessly putting on hardware "features" so that theres bullet points for the marketing team. Thats how I feel about most android handsets is they go power over function, and the battery is short, the os is clogged with third party junk, and its just messy over all. And you have to admit the phone is a work of art. I still look at it and feel how smooth it is. I keep saying a bigger screen would be nice or 4G but I also don't want to be constantly worrying about battery on a big screened Android phone.
Win 8 better than 7? Chris, I love that you can see both sides, but are you insane!? No way in heck Metro's gonna work with a mouse. Even Gnome 3's got absolutely nothing on Windows 8. I even know a die-hard MS-Certified refurbisher/tech that says he's not even going to work with it it's so bad.
@hypersonics23 Win 8 has features many people on both sides can like. You can still uses the traditional UI if you choose, so in that respect it's just like traditional Windows. Again this goes back to choice. If you don't like the Metro features, then thank god Microsoft have given you the choice not to use them.
@TheRageQuitUK Correct me if I'm wrong, but last time I heard, MS made you manually load the old UX, i.e. no auto start at login. That's a real "pain point" if you ask me.
@hypersonics23 Also correct me if I am wrong, but the last time I tried the beta, Metro runs on top of a Win 7 like UI, and a simple keypress can be used to switch between the two. Think of Metro as being a little tiny bit like launchpad in OSX, only Microsoft does it a little backwards in that you have to start with Metro. Im pretty sure that would be fixable however.
Oops... You are 100% right about Apple upgrade and for me when I had to call APPLE tech support for the first time in 2007 a native English speaking human answered the phone and gave me the time of day and I had NEVER had that with Microsoft or any other company including Dell back in the day! APPLE DOES CARE
Hey Chris, as u did I tried Android being a avid IPhone owner since 2007. I just tried the 4S and I am not in love with this upgrade I am returning it and seeing what other choice may come. But A
I don't know if I can ever switch to Android. There are many things like bigger screens, and customization that I just can't get in iOS. But there are even more important things that make me keep my iPhone, too many to list here.
this is what it comes down to. im gonna offend a lot of people here. people who hate on iphones and get android phones do it because they feel that they cant be both smart and an iphone user because of the iphones simplicity. They feel that the world needs to know theyre smart by carrying around an android phone instead of an iphone. In the back of their minds, they know that the iphone is a great phone!
i stay with iphone for the large number of apps and the ability to sync with itunes. those are just two things that android is not able to do. The hardware and software is both made by apple so it runs fast without glitches. ive always thought the screen size was fine because its easy for me to touch every part of the screen with one thumb. i just dont see the point in switching. i dont need customization, thats what a computer is for. The UI gets the job done perfectly.
hey chris. Just curious, what were your main gripes about Vista? I had Vistafor about 2 year and never had any problems, and only switched to Win 7 cause I was a college student and it was cheap. admittedly I got the computer with VIsta after Service Pack 1 came out.
@yoyoc1 Chris saidWindows Vista 'was' god-aweful. After Service Pack 1 there's pretty much nothing wrong with Vista. Windows 7 is lighter than Vista, but SP1 did fix many of the other issues.
i've had the Galaxy SII and HTC Sensation XE and as much as they were powerful, they couldn't match the ease of use and slickness of iOS and it's ecosystem.
The best thing about Android for me was the Google apps, but battery life, app store quality control and backup/sync paled in comparison to my iPhone 4/s imo,
Dude, how about if I hate Apple so much that I would never use it, no matter what, even if it meant I would never use a smartphone again? Hatred can be a good reason to not ever switch... I'm an Android user, by the way. I had my share of problems with my device but I've fixed them myself and it works fine now, I don't rely on other people to fix my stuff, especially computers or anything related to them, unless it's really something that can't be fixed without a special shop.
i had 3 palm pre's when they first came out. it was by far my favorite phone but they kept breaking (one was my fault the other two times where factory defect's). that was the reason i switched to the samsung wave and now the iphone 4s.
I got bored using android and i recently got a 4s. I lovehow smooth ios runs apps and doesntslow down but i miss my bigger screen on android and i might switch back.
this is exacly what i need i came to youtube to look at andriods cus im thinking of getting one when my iphone 4 contract runs out lol what a coincidence
Ok, I want to understand something that maybe I'm missing. I have a Android phone running Froyo and I hate it. One of my biggest gripes is the lack of storage for apps. After all the bloatware they packaged on my phone I can install maybe 10 apps before I get the "lack of space" icon at the top of my screen.
When I look at Apple's product the user doesn't have to worry about *Move to SD* of the app.
Like I said, maybe I missed the news that the new updates fixed this. Did I?
@100percentgetdatcash your comparing a iPhone to an Android device with touchwiz running on it get a Google phone like the nexus s or galaxy nexus and it won't crash
I have had android since the g1, now running nexus s with ics but I can see with apple switching its harder because people have money invested with apps and music
1.) 4G 2.) Super AMOLED HD Display 3.) The cost of buying storage for an iPhone...$400 for 64GB wow! 4.) Customization of the UI - GO Launcher, SPB Shell, etc.
I definitely agree, the frustration I got on the Windows platform from dealing with at least 10 malicious apps for every 1 legitimate app, made me switch entirely to the Apple ecosystem (MacBook Pro, OS X, iPod, and some Apple accessories), that said, I did recently get an Android device that works great for me
I made the switch from iOS to Android. I like it much better. But I definitely agree with Chris that it usually takes pain and frustration to motivate someone to leave what they know and are comfortable with.
@82dirtydozen Because apple releases updates to slow down their old phones, and for people who can't upgrade their new phones every year, this is annoying.
This is all relative my friend. boring to me means effectiveness. overrated to me means proof, over price means value, customization... hmmm... You got a good point.
the iPhone is a solid solution. its easy to use, well thought out, etc...
the day nokia, motorola, etc, make something even simpler to use (I need to simplify my life, like a lot of people) i WILL use a different device.
@FadeToPuppets don't download the wrong app's and you won't get viruses. Get a good phone no lag. Get a custom launcher no lag. remove app's you don't use. Get a cheap android phone that has reasonably good specs. Lack of customisation look at iOS with no jailbreak. Yeah you can change a wallpaper and now we have the revolutionary iOS folders but there's no customisation without a jailbreak. If you get a half decent phone you will get a amount of RAM that the phone NEEDS. (I am a iPhone user).
@FadeToPuppets Extremely boring UI look at iOS look at Android at least you have widgets at least you have live wallpapers. Don't get an overpriced phone there are good very cheap phones that are out there you just have to look.
It's called jailbreaking, shithead. You can do anything Android can and more. Also, you can download ANY app on iOS and not get viruses, you don't have to watch out for the "wrong" apps like you do on Android. Also Android sells FAR less.
@FadeToPuppets QFT. Also there are also things you cant do with android uless you root your device. Anyone who thinks android is totally open is deluding themselves.
The biggest pain point for any IDevice for myself is they are not truly platform agnostic. I live in a Windows, OS X, Linux computing environment. So i need all my devices to work on all three platforms. As it is most IDevices do not play well with Linux, without jumping through hoops to get it to work. For myself that is the pain point hence I can not live in a IDevice only environment.
I upgraded from the Moto DROID Pro to the iPhone 4S. I really like the way the iPhone, my iPad, my Mac pro, and my MacBook pro just work together effortlessly. As Steve always said, "it just works." Not to say I didn't like Android, it's just that I knew that iPhone would work better in my lifestyle, having all those other Apple products.
The very moment Android becomes as reliable and fluid as ios I will switch.. I don't care how cool, how big the screen is, or how "open" it is when my samsung galaxy s2 skyrocket (75% battery left) crashed on me while I'm on a conference call with my regional district manger (Thanks Android). Strange..That never happened with my iphone 4. If you need a grown up phone that's reliable 99.9% go iphone. If you want a super amoled plus HD paper weight go android. Btw, I'm not a fan boy.
every apple fan says that the iPhone screen is big enough.. ITS NOT why have Netflix apps or games if your going to play them on a screen the size of a watch lol and the lack of customization is definetly a pain point.!!!!!!!
This is what I am going to tell anyone who says I'm an idiot for spending 2x as much on a MacBook as an equivalent Windows computer. Because I'm happy with the service it gives me. Yes, its 2 generations old, but it STILL runs very smoothly for everything I use it for (apart from games, I use a different computer for that).
I like the iPhone, but I share files with friends too often to use it. I can't hook up to a friend's itunes because it messes everything up. On Android, a computer hookup makes the device a drive. E: just drag your files over.
I like android, but I got frustrated with the problems. So I switched to the iPhone 4s. So far I haven't had any problems and I'm not on the phone with my carrier as much.
I can sympathise with you on this. I loved my iphone but i switched simply because of cost. I now have a Galaxy S II for half the monthly cost. For what I use it for, i much prefer the monthly saving over my vendor choice
lol you have to go through itunes just to put a file on your phone plis syncing and crap. All I do is plug my shit in the USB nigga....and my Android is not cheap my phone was $364. and it is much more powerful than android. Im on it right now.
How about blackberry's they suck now I switched back to android

Win 8 better than 7? Chris, I love that you can see both sides, but are you insane!? No way in heck Metro's gonna work with a mouse. Even Gnome 3's got absolutely nothing on Windows 8. I even know a die-hard MS-Certified refurbisher/tech that says he's not even going to work with it it's so bad.
hypersonics23 1 month ago
@hypersonics23 Win 8 has features many people on both sides can like. You can still uses the traditional UI if you choose, so in that respect it's just like traditional Windows. Again this goes back to choice. If you don't like the Metro features, then thank god Microsoft have given you the choice not to use them.
TheRageQuitUK 1 month ago
@TheRageQuitUK Correct me if I'm wrong, but last time I heard, MS made you manually load the old UX, i.e. no auto start at login. That's a real "pain point" if you ask me.

@hypersonics23 Also correct me if I am wrong, but the last time I tried the beta, Metro runs on top of a Win 7 like UI, and a simple keypress can be used to switch between the two. Think of Metro as being a little tiny bit like launchpad in OSX, only Microsoft does it a little backwards in that you have to start with Metro. Im pretty sure that would be fixable however.
TheRageQuitUK 1 month ago
@TheRageQuitUK Yeah, that sounds like something they'll 'fix' with a service pack because it's annoying the living crap out of everyone, LOL. xD
And I might use it if it was only like Launchpad, use and gone. I like Launchpad but it lags pretty bad on my iMac.

Oops... You are 100% right about Apple upgrade and for me when I had to call APPLE tech support for the first time in 2007 a native English speaking human answered the phone and gave me the time of day and I had NEVER had that with Microsoft or any other company including Dell back in the day! APPLE DOES CARE

In the back of their minds, they know that the iphone is a great phone!
slb711isScott 1 month ago
i stay with iphone for the large number of apps and the ability to sync with itunes. those are just two things that android is not able to do.

I had Vistafor about 2 year and never had any problems, and only switched to Win 7 cause I was a college student and it was cheap. admittedly I got the computer with VIsta after Service Pack 1 came out.
yoyoc1 1 month ago in playlist More videos from lockergnome
@yoyoc1 Chris saidWindows Vista 'was' god-aweful. After Service Pack 1 there's pretty much nothing wrong with Vista. Windows 7 is lighter than Vista, but SP1 did fix many of the other issues.

It' s down to personal preference.
i've had the Galaxy SII and HTC Sensation XE and as much as they were powerful, they couldn't match the ease of use and slickness of iOS and it's ecosystem.

Did I?

Lack of customization, boring UI of iOS, overprice, overrated perspective of Apple.. etc
I can go with million reasons to switch from iPhone to Android device.
& I have both.
raayg1 2 months ago 24
@raayg1

Android: lag, viruses, horrible maker, lack of customization, lack of ram, extremely boring UI, overprice, etc.
FadeToPuppets 1 month ago
@FadeToPuppets don't download the wrong app's and you won't get viruses. Get a good phone no lag. Get a custom launcher no lag. remove app's you don't use. Get a cheap android phone that has reasonably good specs. Lack of customisation look at iOS with no jailbreak. Yeah you can change a wallpaper and now we have the revolutionary iOS folders but there's no customisation without a jailbreak. If you get a half decent phone you will get a amount of RAM that the phone NEEDS. (I am a iPhone user).
ipodtouch2gmc 1 month ago
@FadeToPuppets Extremely boring UI look at iOS look at Android at least you have widgets at least you have live wallpapers. Don't get an overpriced phone there are good very cheap phones that are out there you just have to look.
Remember I am an iPhone user.
ipodtouch2gmc 1 month ago
@ipodtouch2gmc
It's called jailbreaking, shithead. You can do anything Android can and more. Also, you can download ANY app on iOS and not get viruses, you don't have to watch out for the "wrong" apps like you do on Android. Also Android sells FAR less.
FadeToPuppets 1 month ago
@FadeToPuppets QFT. Also there are also things you cant do with android uless you root your device. Anyone who thinks android is totally open is deluding themselves.

The biggest pain point for any IDevice for myself is they are not truly platform agnostic. I live in a Windows, OS X, Linux computing environment. So i need all my devices to work on all three platforms. As it is most IDevices do not play well with Linux, without jumping through hoops to get it to work. For myself that is the pain point hence I can not live in a IDevice only environment.
darkone778 2 months ago

Lack of customization is the pain point
bigmike82011 2 months ago
every apple fan says that the iPhone screen is big enough.. ITS NOT why have Netflix apps or games if your going to play them on a screen the size of a watch lol and the lack of customization is definetly a pain point.!!!!!!!
bigmike82011 2 months ago
This is what I am going to tell anyone who says I'm an idiot for spending 2x as much on a MacBook as an equivalent Windows computer. Because I'm happy with the service it gives me. Yes, its 2 generations old, but it STILL runs very smoothly for everything I use it for (apart from games, I use a different computer for that).
MrSkinnyBill 2 months ago
I like the iPhone, but I share files with friends too often to use it. I can't hook up to a friend's itunes because it messes everything up. On Android, a computer hookup makes the device a drive. E: just drag your files over.
