This isn't actually a water purifier; it's only a water filter. To purify water you must destroy organisms smaller than 1 micron. You're still exposed to viruses and chemical impurities with a water filter.
@TomZentra Actually it is both a purifier and a filter. There a two tubes. The first tube has a filter attached to the end of which gets rid of all of the large impurities. Then, the water and all of the other microns go through the device, which is the purifier part, and kills all chemicals including Giardia.

Giardia is not a chemical; it is bacteria. Only a substance such as charcoal will remove chemicals whether they are petroleum distillates, pesticides, fertilizer runoff, etc.
Water purification removes viruses and other organisms 0.1 micron or smaller. The Hiker Pro filters down to only 0.3 micron, as documented on the Katadyn website.

There are outdoorsmen who drink unfiltered water and don't become sick. But occasional weekend hikers are taking a big risk by not filtering and purifying.

@TomZentra I have taken this thing on about 5 weekend trips with about 5+ backpackers....Nobody has ever gotten even remotely sick.

@310EMT No the filter worked perfectly! A couple weeks later took it out on the Appalachian for 4 days and it worked fine. Highly recommend it.
