@francescaelena1 If you saw this in the theatre. You'd know why they created the tail. In the prodcution design, they wanted to create the illusion of being underwater without using wires. When you're watching from the audience, the way she moves with her heelies & tail. It actually does look like she's swimming. It may look odd on camera but remember this wasn't supposed to be on camera.

@saritart2008 I undertstand what you mean. It does feel a bit unfair since she is the full package. That being said, I have so much more respect for her becuase she's not just a pretty face. I hate the fact that Megan Fox is famous only becuase she is beautiful. She's couldn't act if world depended on it. Sierra on the other hand is a great actress and a wonderful singer. Oh and she can dance. So unlike Megan, she's deserved to be where she's at. Plus, Sierra does seem very sweet. :)

Casting her in this role was brilliant. She has a wonderful voice that has that classic Broadway and Disney-ish beauty to it but still has that "edge" to make it different and interesting.

After commenting the Betsy Morgan rendition, I figured I'd comment here, too. After watching this a few times. She is sooo cute and adds so much flare to Ariel. Her movements make me believe that she's actually under the sea. Her voice is flawless, perfect for the character. She really is the perfect Ariel. Best casting choice ever.

@ThatGypsyBoy If you were sitting in the audience, you'd see just how important it is. Without the tail, the costume would't have the right fludity. The tail provides the sense of being underwater. The effect doesn't work as well from the up close shot through teh camera. But sitting in the audeince gives the show a whole new dimesion. The costume would definetly look more stange without the tail being attached.

@Silver54ful i guess after a while you get used to it. I just think it looks odd that the skirt and the tail are so seperate. I suppose everyone kinda compares it to the Lion King in a way, which had amazing costumes. But i love Ursulas, i think it was so clever.

@TLMBroadway93 Really? I thought Sierra left in August '09 and the show closed in the fall of '09.. but I must be mistaken :) I went to see it and I had Chelsea... It was still an amazing show, but I felt as if there was something missing... and that something was Sierra, of course :)

@ethalinia There seems to be a lot of misguided information on this subject. I will gladly specify the facts. Sierra left the production on May 31 2009. Chelsea Mogan Stock was her replacement. She remained in the principle role of Ariel until the closing which was August 30 2009. Anyother actresses who performed the role in between opening night (January 10 2008) until the closing was an understudy.

Listen to that applause at the end of the song! A worthy response from a wonderful singer. Sierra has such a gift. Perfect characterization to an iconic Disney princess. Passionate, vivid, and enthereal. One of my favorite performances of hers. I loved the way she held her belt at the end. Bravo!
